Release the Female Lead Ch. 270

Chapter 270: Everything in the Dream Was False! (6th Update)

Ye Wenxin patted Qiao Ni’s hair and looked to Madam Yu for help, hoping she would keep Qiao Ni behind. However, at that moment, Madam Yu looked away.

The usually strong-willed Madam Yu was unexpectedly easy to deal with today. Ye Wenxin found this baffling, that something was off about Madam Yu’s demeanor. She teased, “Ni Ni, teach me your secret. What did you say to your mother, that she didn’t oppose you coming with me?”

Qiao Ni looked puzzled and said, “I didn’t do anything. I was surprised this morning when she agreed to let me go with you to the relay station.” She shook her head, unable to understand why Madam Yu’s attitude had changed so drastically.

Realizing she wouldn’t get answers from Qiao Ni, Ye Wenxin turned her gaze back to Madam Yu.

Madam Yu’s expression remained as aloof as before, though her words were slightly gentler. “After consideration, I realized that the more I oppose, the more likely it is to backfire. Now that we have formed an alliance, I trust you will consider your actions carefully. Moreover, Ni Ni genuinely likes you. If she likes you, then so be it.”

Ye Wenxin was astonished by the unexpected change. Unable to resist, she said, “Sorry, may I examine your pulse to confirm?”

Madam Yu, already finding the conversation awkward, stared at Ye Wenxin, feeling that she didn’t quite grasp the situation.

Nevertheless, after considering her own physical condition, Madam Yu extended her slender, jade-like hand. Ye Wenxin placed her fingers on Madam Yu’s wrist, and used her Qi to perceive the pulse within Madam Yu’s body.

Although there was still a significant amount of Yin energy, it seemed that Madam Yu’s body wouldn’t experience major issues for the time being.

However, the sudden change in Madam Yu’s attitude reminded Ye Wenxin of her disturbing dream, making her feel increasingly uneasy.

“Um, Madam Yu, are you really letting her come with me? I’m very dangerous,” Ye Wenxin asked again, seeking confirmation of Madam Yu’s intentions.

Madam Yu’s expression grew more complex, but ultimately nodded, appearing resolute.

“Having Ni Ni with me is inconvenient.”

“It’s alright; I’ll have guards accompany you both.”

“But I’m going to the brothel.”

“Never mind… I take it back.” Madam Yu’s fleeting trace of goodwill towards Ye Wenxin vanished completely with her words. She pulled Qiao Ni back toward her.

Qiao Ni looked bewildered, her eyes pleading with Madam Yu.

“Say no more, you can’t force something that isn’t meant to be.” Madam Yu shook her head and held onto Qiao Ni, gesturing for Ye Wenxin to leave.

Finally relieved, Ye Wenxin turned to leave, only to find another person standing in front of her.

The person, dressed in green, was none other than Liu Churan.

She was still wearing last night’s attire, her hair impeccably groomed. Whether she hadn’t changed clothes by coincidence or hadn’t returned home all night was unclear, but her timing couldn’t have been more perfect.

Ye Wenxin felt uneasy as she watched Qiao Ni immediately hug Liu Churan and pour out her grievances. The scene reminded her vividly of the dream she had last night.

She shivered slightly as Liu Churan’s beautiful eyes settled on her face, smiling as she said, “Miss Wenxin, did you sleep well last night?”

“Uh, yes, quite well,” Ye Wenxin responded awkwardly, but Liu Churan’s eyes held a teasing glint that made her even more uncomfortable.

Beside them, Madam Yu’s expression darkened, and she spoke coldly, “Sister, are you taking Ni Ni’s things now?”

Her words were harsh, laden with personal emotions that seemed to be wrapped around that single word ‘take’.

Qiao Ni’s alarm bells were ringing loudly. She looked between the seemingly about-to-argue sisters and then helplessly at Ye Wenxin, who was enjoying the drama unfolding beside her.

“If I want to take something, who can stop me in this world? Miss Wenxin, I heard you’re going to the relay station. Could I accompany you?” Liu Churan paid no heed to Madam Yu.

Ye Wenxin was momentarily puzzled. “May I ask why Miss Liu wants to go there?”

“Oh, I heard that an elder from your sect died at the Demon Lord’s hands. Naturally, I want to see the body,” Liu Churan replied with a smile.

Ye Wenxin couldn’t shake the feeling that Liu Churan was staring at Madam Yu the entire time she spoke, as if implying Madam Yu had lied about something.

Madam Yu’s face darkened as she listened, her voice cold: “Are you thinking I’m fabricating stories, Sister? Making up a Demon Lord?”

“No, I don’t think you have that ability, Sister. But if I were in your shoes, I would naturally hide that person away,” Liu Churan retorted, her tone suggesting she had experienced similar situations before.

Ye Wenxin, who had been spectating the drama, looked to Qiao Ni for answers. Qiao Ni sighed and, with a tone of resignation, said, “When they start talking about certain people, they always get like this. Don’t worry, it’ll pass soon.”

Initially just a bystander, Ye Wenxin found herself comforted by Qiao Ni’s words. However, upon reflection, she felt something was amiss. Knowing it was time to leave rather than watch further drama, she quickly clasped her hands and said, “Since both of you haven’t made a decision yet, I will take my leave.”

With that, Ye Wenxin dashed away without looking back, ignoring Qiao Ni’s calls behind her.

The argument continued unabated. Qiao Ni watched Madam Yu and Liu Churan still arguing, their disdain evident for the person they referred to as ‘her’.

If not for that person, her mother and her aunt wouldn’t quarrel each time they meet.

If not for that person, Ye Wenxin wouldn’t have just run off like that.

Qiao Ni sighed deeply, sincerely hoping for this argument to end quickly…

Meanwhile, Ye Wenxin finally walked out of Green Isle Manor. She gazed at the beautiful buildings and the distant street view, which unexpectedly gave her a sense of familiarity, as if she had lived there for a long time despite staying less than half a month.

With this thought in mind, she continued walking ahead, and encountered a man dressed in a coachman’s uniform.

The coachman approached immediately upon seeing Ye Wenxin, likely because Madam Yu had anticipated Ye Wenxin would leave with Qiao Ni and had arranged for the coachman to wait here. Now that Qiao Ni wasn’t with her, Ye Wenxin could easily walk to the relay station.

Therefore, Ye Wenxin politely declined the coachman’s offer and proceeded on foot towards her destination. She was aware of the news about the Huang Clan’s annihilation, though the details were scant, not revealing much more.

Ye Wenxin walked slowly, savoring the rare solitude.

However, perhaps due to always being with others before, she gradually began to feel a strong loneliness.
