Chapter 295: Starved for Love, Ye Wenxin (3rd Update)
“Ahem,” Ye Wenxin coughed a few times deliberately.
Madam Yu seemed to just realize something and groggily opened her eyes. Having slept very deeply, she was now rubbing her somewhat uncomfortable head. “Miss Wenxin, did you sprinkle something on the bed? Why did I fall asleep as soon as I touched it?”
Only then did Ye Wenxin remember the sleep powder she had scattered on the bed the previous night in an attempt to combat her insomnia. Looking at Madam Yu, it was likely that the sleep powder had caused her to fall back asleep so soundly.
But the sleep powder was laced within the quilt, so how and why did Madam Yu open the quilt in the first place?
The more she thought about it, the more terrified Ye Wenxin felt. Forcing a smile, she said, “I’m sorry, I used some sleep powder last night because I couldn’t sleep. But it didn’t work, so I went out for a walk.”
Madam Yu, struggling to get up, held onto the edge of the bed, still somewhat out of control. Although the sleep powder had no effect on Ye Wenxin, it was too strong for an ordinary person like Madam Yu.
“But, Madam Yu, why did you come looking for me so early?”
“I can’t find Ni Ni…” Mentioning Qiao Ni suddenly made Madam Yu more alert. She stood up abruptly but stumbled forward unsteadily. Ye Wenxin quickly caught her.
At that moment, the door opened, and Qiao Ni walked in nonchalantly, only to see Ye Wenxin holding Madam Yu.
The atmosphere grew tense again. Feeling something was off, Ye Wenxin hurriedly shouted, “Godmother, your illness is acting up again. Your goddaughter will accompany you back to your room right now!”
Madam Yu, stunned, felt that Ye Wenxin was taking advantage of her, but on second thought, she was no longer helping Qiao Ni pursue Ye Wenxin. However, worried that Qiao Ni might misunderstand her relationship with Ye Wenxin, she reluctantly went along with it.
“Ah, indeed, I’m feeling a bit unwell.”
With that, Ye Wenxin actually picked her up and sprinted towards Madam Yu’s room.
Qiao Ni just stood there, clutching her doll tightly, her eyes filled with confusion. “No way, did my wife really turn into my sister?” By the time she wanted to ask what had happened, the two were already out of sight.
“That was close,” Ye Wenxin sighed in relief. Madam Yu nodded slightly, then realized she was still holding onto Ye Wenxin’s neck. Feeling a bit flustered, she quietly withdrew her hands, but when the scent of rouge reached her nose, she frowned in displeasure.
“Godmother is not scolding you, but you should really restrain yourself.”
Ye Wenxin’s mouth dropped open, completely unable to believe that Madam Yu had so quickly accepted the ‘godmother’ setting. But thinking that this would make it harder for Qiao Ni to pursue her, Ye Wenxin grinned and said, “I’ll listen to you, Godmother.”
In just a few sentences, Ye Wenxin had already adapted to this setup. Madam Yu seemed more relaxed, genuinely taking on the role of an elder guiding Ye Wenxin.
Ye Wenxin had mixed feelings about it, but since she planned to leave in a few days, she decided to go along with Madam Yu, who assumed a parental role and took her shopping for clothes.
It wasn’t until they finished shopping that Ye Wenxin realized Madam Yu had bought everything for her.
“Godmother, isn’t this too many?”
“Since I’m your godmother now, I naturally need to give you some benefits. Tomorrow, I’ll announce that you’re my goddaughter,” Madam Yu replied, smiling for some reason.
Her expression seemed quite relieved, while Qiao Ni, standing nearby, felt a mix of emotions, constantly muttering things like, ‘My wife has become my sister’. Seeing Qiao Ni’s bewildered expression, Ye Wenxin couldn’t help but feel a bit of an elder sister’s concern.
Qiao Ni also found new ways to benefit from this change in status, and constantly acted spoiled towards Ye Wenxin.
After just one day, Ye Wenxin felt utterly exhausted. Watching Qiao Ni still playing in the distance, she plopped down on the grass, unable to fathom how this ordinary brat seemed to have boundless energy.
Madam Yu sat down beside her, smiling. The dislike in her eyes gradually faded, transforming into familial warmth.
“Your change in attitude is too fast, Godmother,” remarked Ye Wenxin, noting how Madam Yu seemed to have completely forgotten her previous dislike.
But thinking it over, now that she had become Madam Yu’s goddaughter and would no longer be a threat to Qiao Ni, it made sense that Madam Yu’s hostility had naturally dissipated.
“Really? I think it’s quite natural. Now that I think about it, why should I hold a grudge against a junior like you?” Madam Yu leaned forward slightly, helping to tidy Ye Wenxin’s hair, which Qiao Ni had messed up.
Ye Wenxin didn’t resist; Madam Yu’s maternal nature had a certain magic. Whether it was Ling Jue, Xiao Zhang, or Madam Yu, they all exuded this maternal quality. After reflecting on it, Ye Wenxin realized her deep-seated affinity for motherly figures.
To put it simply, she was starved for love but didn’t know how to properly seek it.
Madam Yu continued to fuss with Ye Wenxin’s hair, like a true mother. Her movements were gentle and attentive, as if she genuinely enjoyed having a goddaughter.
Ye Wenxin let her hair down, watching as Madam Yu skillfully pinned it up again. Madam Yu’s fingers glided gracefully through her strands, and soon she placed a red hairpin in her hair.
“This is a gift.”
“Thank you, Godmother,” replied Ye Wenxin, touching the hairpin. Without a mirror, she couldn’t see what it looked like, but she instinctively expressed her gratitude. She then watched as Qiao Ni ran toward them and embraced her with a smile.
“Hehehe, this suddenly feels quite nice. We’re just like a family,” said Qiao Ni, still as innocent and cheerful as ever. Madam Yu smiled lightly, masking the sorrow in her eyes, but she still had no intention of revealing the secret.
Ye Wenxin felt that Qiao Ni’s clinginess remained unchanged. When Qiao Ni tried to kiss her, she could only helplessly push her face away.
Qiao Ni pouted before snickering and running to Madam Yu. She gave her a peck on the cheek. Madam Yu smiled, and Qiao Ni, feeling triumphant, boasted to Ye Wenxin.
Ye Wenxin was speechless as Qiao Ni kissed Madam Yu’s cheek again and said, “Hmph, this is the privilege of a real daughter.”
Ye Wenxin rolled her eyes, remembering how she had kissed Madam Yu’s lips just yesterday. Compared to that, a cheek kiss felt insignificant. Faced with Qiao Ni’s provocation, she decided not to respond, only to see Qiao Ni push down Madam Yu.
Qiao Ni kissed her several more times. Madam Yu, a bit flustered, couldn’t push Qiao Ni away due to her small strength, and looked rather embarrassed.
