Chapter 296: Do You Really See My Mother as Your Godmother? (4th Update)
Even as a child was bullying her to this extent, Madam Yu remained gentle. She tolerated Qiao Ni’s unreasonable behavior. But Qiao Ni became even more presumptuous. Madam Yu, seeing she was about to kiss her lips, finally pleaded for Ye Wenxin’s help.
Ye Wenxin walked over to Madam Yu, pulling Qiao Ni away. “Stop bullying your mother, or she’ll faint again.”
Madam Yu was slightly breathless, with a hint of embarrassment on her face. She seemed to truly think she would be in danger of passing out if Qiao Ni kept playing with her like that.
Qiao Ni behaved herself. She sat on the grass contentedly, her eyes turning towards Madam Yu and Ye Wenxin. Curiously, she asked, “When did you two get along so well?”
Naturally, she remembered sowing dissension in various ways to prevent Madam Yu from liking Ye Wenxin. This then led to Madam Yu hating Ye Wenxin. But now, Madam Yu didn’t even give token resistance when Ye Wenxin held her.
The two, a bit stunned upon hearing this, looked at each other. They didn’t know when they had started getting along so naturally, and awkwardly put some distance between them.
“Sister Wenxin, do you truly see my mother as your godmother?” Qiao Ni suddenly became suspicious. She couldn’t shake the feeling that there was still something off about how Ye Wenxin was looking at Madam Yu.
Instead of respect, there was warmth and tenderness.
“Of course I do. What else would I see her as?” Ye Wenxin responded solemnly, only to hear Qiao Ni daring her in dissatisfaction: “Then give my mother a kiss.”
The topic shifted a bit too quickly. Ye Wenxin and Madam Yu exchanged looks again. Qiao Ni continued, “Are you too scared to kiss her?”
“Stop this, Ni Ni. She is not you; how can she kiss me so casually?” Madam Yu felt quite the headache, recalling the awkwardness when she and Ye Wenxin had kissed. It would be even more awkward to kiss now, given their change in status.
Ye Wenxin realized that Qiao Ni was testing them. She chuckled and gave Madam Yu a peck on the cheek. Madam Yu stiffened, looking awkward, but with no sign of bashfulness.
Qiao Ni sighed with relief at Madam Yu’s reaction, the corners of her mouth lifting in a smile. She leaned in, hugged Madam Yu and Ye Wenxin around their necks, and pecked them both on the lips.
“Hehehe, now the three of us are together.”
Madam Yu felt resigned and completely helpless against Qiao Ni, while Ye Wenxin, already accustomed to Qiao Ni’s antics, remained unfazed. She was simply pondering something trivial: whether the kiss earlier counted as with Qiao Ni or with both mother and daughter.
“Madam, everything is ready.” The majordomo, arriving belatedly, informed the three who were still in the midst of their lively interaction that the hall had been prepared.
Madam Yu nodded, returning to her usual noble lady demeanor. She looked at Ye Wenxin, saying, “If you have regrets, you can still turn back now.”
Ye Wenxin’s adoption ceremony would take place in the prepared hall. Once the ceremony was completed, the world would know that Madam Yu had taken Ye Wenxin in as her goddaughter.
Ye Wenxin thought this would be harmless and beneficial to the Cozy Gang. It could also bury the previous rumors of Qiao Ni madly pursuing Ye Wenxin. So she was somewhat perplexed to hear Madam Yu worrying about her.
“Why would I regret it?”
“If you become my goddaughter, you can’t harbor any crooked thoughts towards Qiao Ni.”
“Rest assured, even if she’s more beautiful than Fairy Fengya, I will never develop feelings for her,” Ye Wenxin immediately replied, but she then realized these words might set up a flag. She quickly spat a few times and corrected herself. “Rest assured, that won’t happen.”
This sentence, however, didn’t sound any different from the first one, so Ye Wenxin stopped bothering with it. She sensed Qiao Ni’s pout before hearing her say resentfully, “You didn’t need to be so firm about it.”
“Since I’m heartless, I have no yearning,” said Ye Wenxin with an innocent smile. Qiao Ni took a few steps forward, declaring loudly, “Just wait; you will pursue me in the future!”
Ye Wenxin pretended to hear nothing. Although Qiao was outstanding, she wasn’t a female lead, and she didn’t have golden luck.
In the end, Ye Wenxin was an unrivaled villain; how could she possibly care about a little girl like Qiao Ni?
She stepped into the hall without hesitation. The ceremony commenced, with lanterns and colored banners all around to celebrate Ye Wenxin becoming Madam Yu’s goddaughter. At the same time, this news began to spread to various factions and places…
Ling Jue of Medicine King Valley was flabbergasted, Secret Guard Commander Xiao Zhang had a complicated expression, and a meaningful smile spread across the face of Long Qingyue, Eldest Princess of the Golden Age Dynasty. When this news reached the Azure Wings Sect, it caused an even bigger sensation.
The assistant who had an ambiguous relationship with Ling Jue of Medicine King Valley, and rejected Fairy Fengya to become Jin Xiaoqin’s true disciple, was now the goddaughter of Green Isle Manor’s Madam Yu.
As this news gradually circulated, it made people believe even more that Ye Wenxin must have formidable powers to receive the favor of so many prominent figures.
When the news circled back to Ye Wenxin’s ears, it had already become the melodramatic Secret Chronicle of Ye Wenxin.
“Big Sister, is it true that you knew Fairy Fengya before?”
“Big Sister, does Young Master Ling Jue have awesome skills?”
The secret chronicle was true to life. The author had included many details that were unknown to most people, making Ye Wenxin suspect she was under surveillance. Embarrassed by this, Ye Wenxin didn’t dare confide in anyone. She felt she needed to handle the local gossip carefully to prevent fiction from becoming reality.
Thanks to these various gossips, however, Ye Wenxin’s Cozy Gang gained fame. Orders for pills flooded in, keeping her busy refining pills at Green Isle Manor for a whole week. She couldn’t even step outside. No matter how much of a genius she was, and how dominant her Qi, continuous week-long Alchemy without eating, drinking, or sleeping still drained her completely.
When she finally emerged and saw the sunlight outside, Ye Wenxin felt the beauty of being alive for the first time.
She then learned that, besides Huang Hanyan, the rest of the gang had completely withdrawn. They were busy managing the pill business elsewhere. Along the way, they would stop by places operated by Green Isle Manor to touch base.
After careful calculation, Ye Wenxin found that she had stayed at Green Isle Manor for almost two months. If she hadn’t gotten a message from Jin Xiaoqin urging her to go back quickly, she felt she could be refining pills for a whole year before coming out.
“Sister Wenxin, you’re just leaving?” Qiao Ni cried particularly sadly, wishing to follow Ye Wenxin, but she was still concerned about Madam Yu.
Ultimately, she just stood there, watching longingly.
