Chapter 297: Rare Creature Ye Wenxin (5th Update)
Madam Yu’s face showed a hint of reluctance. Ye Wenxin smiled and couldn’t resist teasing. “Why are you talking like that? I’m not dead yet.”
Qiao Ni, upon hearing this, became even more saddened. Madam Yu furrowed her brows slightly. “Wenxin, please don’t provoke her. Originally, Ni Ni would only cry for three days, but now, with your words, she might cry for a whole week.”
Children were naturally sensitive, especially Qiao Ni, who had become overly dependent on Ye Wenxin. Madam Yu’s words conveyed a sense of helplessness, but she acknowledged that if it weren’t for her, Qiao Ni might have left with Ye Wenxin long ago.
“Is it that serious? If you cry so much, you might become ugly. I have high standards when it comes to beauties. I don’t want them unless they’re the best in the world,” Ye Wenxin said awkwardly, trying to lighten Qiao Ni’s mood.
Qiao Ni looked even sadder but managed to wipe her tears. “If I become the best in the world, will you like me then?”
“Hehehe, that’s never going to happen in your lifetime.” Ye Wenxin couldn’t resist mocking again. As long as Fairy Fengya didn’t ascend, who in this world could dare claim to be the so-called best?
“Wenxin, stop it. Ni Ni might be sad for a whole month.” Madam Yu rubbed her temples, wanting to complain that Ye Wenxin didn’t care for her sister. But seeing the reluctance in Ye Wenxin’s eyes, she finally said, “Have a safe journey.”
Perhaps Ye Wenxin was just not good with goodbyes; hence, she deliberately provoked Qiao Ni.
Hearing Madam Yu’s understanding words, Ye Wenxin reached out and pinched Qiao Ni’s cheek. “Take good care of Godmother. If anyone dares to bully you, send me a message right away, and I’ll go beat them up.”
Then, in a hushed voice, she added, “Especially your mother’s lover. If I catch them, I’ll beat them to death!”
Qiao Ni, who had been crying, felt warmth in her heart upon hearing this, and her tears transformed into a smile. She wiped away the tears on her face and hugged Ye Wenxin.
“Sister Wenxin, take care.”
“Mm, same goes for you both.” Ye Wenxin waved to everyone. She mounted her horse in one fluid motion and rode off with Huang Hanyan without looking back.
Qiao Ni noticed something amiss in the direction Ye Wenxin had left, and anxiously said to Madam Yu, “Mother, did Sister Wenxin take the wrong road? That’s not the way out of town!”
“Your Sister Wenxin is a free spirit; she’s probably going there,” Madam Yu replied nonchalantly, aware of whose boudoir Ye Wenxin had spent a passionate night in that day.
Qiao Ni cried again, and Madam Yu sighed. “It looks like you’ll be sad for a whole year.”
……
Meanwhile, Ye Wenxn indeed went to the Winter Jasmine.
Huang Hanyan glanced at the place Ye Wenxin was heading, ultimately telling her she would wait outside. Ye Wenxin didn’t force her. She entered the establishment, and before she had taken a few steps, the brothel keeper welcomed her.
“Miss, have you come to find Yingchun again?” It was obvious from the brothel keeper’s cordial tone that Madam Yu had instructed her to pay particular attention to Ye Wenxin.
“Yes. Is she here?” Ye Wenxin forwent politeness and directly inquired about Courtesan Yingchun’s whereabouts.
“She should be in her boudoir now,” answered the brothel keeper. Ye Wenxin went upstairs without any hesitation. She walked towards that room as if she had done so many times before.
Fusang had been playing the qin. Upon seeing Ye Wenxin, she let out a startled noise, but eventually managed to push through her fear.
Ye Wenxin held back a grin, saluting Fusang with a clasped fist. “Miss Yingchun, I’ve come to bid farewell.”
Fusang inwardly cheered but still curiously questioned, “Oh? So you’re leaving.”
“Yeah, and this is for you. If you can’t sleep, just take one pill, and then you’ll sleep for a long time.” These were the Sleep Pills Ye Wenxin had recently produced. They had almost the same effect as sleeping pills, but many times more potent, allowing one to fall asleep immediately upon consumption.
It was quite effective against insomnia and had a soothing effect. Ye Wenxin, considering she had slept with the Fusang sisters so often, naturally wanted to gift them something in return, so as to get acquainted with them in the future.
Fusang nodded and said, “Thank you, Miss Ye.” After accepting the bottle, her hands returned to the qin’s strings. “Yingchun did not have the time to prepare a parting gift. So I shall play Miss Ye a song as farewell.”
Ye Wenxin nodded, sat, and listened to Fusang pluck the strings as she sang.
This voice, brimming with Qi, also had a soothing effect. Ye Wenxin felt strength fill her body, and after the song finished, she left the Winter Jasmine.
She rode swiftly with Huang Hanyan, heading straight towards the Azure Wings Sect.
One week later, they arrived at the Azure Wings Sect…
More than half a month still remained until the opening of the secret realm. Ye Wenxin, seeing how tired Huang Hanyan was, let her go back to rest, while she herself prepared to go and greet her master, Jin Xiaoqin.
If she didn’t inform the woman of her return, she might run to Green Isle Manor to beat her.
It was well into the fall season, bringing with it an increased flow of people in the vicinity.
Many actively called out a greeting upon seeing Ye Wenxin. Some would come to ascertain if Ye Wenxin was truly as formidable as rumored, and some were simply curious as to what she looked like.
Ye Wenxin felt like a rare creature. Wherever she went, people would gawk at her.
When she arrived at the Hall of Teaching, Jin Xiaoqin was indoctrinating a disciple who had done wrong. As soon as she saw Ye Wenxin, her eyes showed some happiness, and after saying a few words to the disciple, she quickly walked over.
Ye Wenxin deferentially greeted Jin Xiaoqin, who raised her hand. Ye Wenxin instinctively ducked, and the atmosphere sank into awkward confusion.
Jin Xiaoqin questioned Ye Wenxin’s actions. “What, scared of being hit?”
Ye Wenxin, rather embarrassed, said hastily, “How could that be?”
Jin Xiaoqin went to grab her again, and Ye Wenxin’s body dodged out of reflex.
“You’ve trained well.” After seeing how Ye Wenxin reacted, Jin Xiaoqin faintly smirked, and her attacks grew even fiercer.
Ye Wenxin was glad she wasn’t actually a weak character. Otherwise, Jin Xiaoqin would have tortured her to death. But precisely because of this, she was able to avoid all of Jin Xiaoqin’s death blows.
The disciple who had yet to leave was frightened by Jin Xiaoqin’s vicious attacks, assuming she and Ye Wenxin had some sort of grudge going on.
Yet looking closely, Ye Wenxin was evading cleanly. The two seemed to be sparring with no clear winner, just offense and defense.
Soon enough, Jin Xiaoqin grew tired and ceased her attacks, saying gratifiedly, “Looks like you can last a full day in the secret realm.”
This evaluation made Ye Wenxin think that Jin Xiaoqin seriously doubted her survival abilities. But if she looked at it from another angle, this was completely due to Jin Xiaoqin’s concern.
TL: And that’s the end of the Green Isle Manor arc. Even though we didn’t get actual confirmation, I’m sure we’ll see Madam Yu and Qiao Ni again. Now, onto the secret realm arc! But first, an apprenticeship ceremony. Y’all find out next chapter.
