Chapter 299: A Heavy Blow to Fairy Fengya (2nd Update)

“Of course we should go. Senior Sister Long is being so generous. Look at what’s written here: those who attend will be given fifth-grade pills.” Ye Wenxin pointed to the specially marked text.

She suddenly remembered the ridiculously large order for pills she had recently received, which made her suspect that Long Qing’er was secretly supporting her business.

Although they hadn’t been meeting recently, it still didn’t change the fact that they had had several sleepovers. Since Long Qing’er had invited them, Ye Wenxin decided to join in the celebration no matter what.

“Pills aren’t rare to me, but I’m worried you’ll suffer if you go.” Jin Xiaoqin always had a lax nature when it came to material things. She appeared casual, but in fact, she had a delicate heart. She was worried that Long Qing’er might trouble Ye Wenxin because of what had happened with Fairy Fengya.

Jin Xiaoqin’s words reminded Ye Wenxin that her master was clueless about her and Long Qing’er’s relationship. Smiling, she explained, “Don’t worry, Senior Sister Long is not the type to trouble others deliberately.”

“Ah, my dear disciple, your eyes are a little bad.”

Seeing Ye Wenxin, who seemed oblivious to Long Qing’er’s true nature, Jin Xiaoqin felt sympathetic but still tossed the invitation to her.

“You should experience more hardships, though. You aren’t troubled now, but you’ll face difficulties when you enter the secret realm. You better get used to the survival of the fittest among cultivators, sooner or later.”

Jin Xiaoqin sighed, then swaggered away, not giving Ye Wenxin any chance to clarify her and Long Qing’er’s relationship.

But on second thought, explaining too much was troublesome, so she put away the invitation, and left in the opposite direction to the true disciple compound.

A week after her return, Ye Wenxin started desperately refining pills whenever she had free time. The journey to the secret realm would take at least a month, so she had already sent a message via carrier pigeon to ask Ling Jue for help, hoping to borrow some manpower to manage the pills.

She also worked on building a connection with Mu Linsen, who was the current Alchemy teacher, to have him introduce some people to assist her.

In the Golden Age Dynasty, Fatty had successfully opened the Cozy Gang’s first pill store, which was going even more smoothly with the help of Commander Xiao Zhang of the Secret Guard. As a result, Ye Wenxin was always busy.

A few more days passed in a flurry. Three days before the opening of the secret realm, lanterns and colorful banners ornamented the Azure Wings Sect, creating a festive atmosphere.

Long Qing’er had announced her apprenticeship ceremony and wanted to share this joy with everyone.

Everyone felt Long Qing’er deserved it. Furthermore, given her identity, status, and the capabilities she had demonstrated, no one could question her. But Ye Wenxin, seeing the sect adorned with red, wondered if she was attending a wedding1.

It was as if Long Qing’er had finally accomplished her life’s goal—marrying Fairy Fengya. No matter how lavish it was, however, it was only an apprenticeship ceremony, and Long Qing’er, as a disciple, couldn’t hope to climb into Fairy Fengya’s bed.

Ye Wenxin briefly paused, considered Fairy Fengya’s personality, and suddenly felt it was possible. Long Qing’er’s love for Fairy Fengya had reached a level of fixation, and this might be the beginning of her devouring Fairy Fengya. But remembering Fairy Fengya’s indifference, Ye Wenxin momentarily wondered who she should pity.

In any case, neither of them would be happy.

As Ye Wenxin continued forward, she also saw many familiar faces. Huang Hanyan, whom she hadn’t seen for a few days, appeared much thinner, but she had a significant breakthrough in her cultivation.

It made Ye Wenxin feel that her own presence only served to hold Huang Huanyan back. As soon as Huang Hanyan left her side, she would improve by leaps.

Huang Hanyan, upon seeing Ye Wenxin, only gave a brief greeting before quickly going to a corner, maintaining a certain distance.

Of course, Ye Wenxin also saw Gu Xiangsi. She was avoiding a bunch of suitors with disgust, like they were a swarm of flies. Despite having resolved her androphobia, she was soon frightened to the point of relapsing.

Ye Wenxin was sighing at everyone’s transformation when she heard Jin Xiaoqin’s voice.

“You’re early, disciple.”

Ye Wenxin turned around and saw Jin Xiaoqin in a gorgeous dress. Looking closer, there was a little makeup on her usually bare face, which left Ye Wenxin feeling that today’s Jin Xiaoqin was a bit weird, yet she indeed looked somewhat nice.

“Master, is that you?”

Jin Xiaoqin, who had been pretending to be a refined lady, immediately kicked out with her foot. This was her method of kicking people—the physical language she liked to use frequently. Ye Wenxin confirmed right away that this was her master.

Ye Wenxin chuckled, and immediately started flattering with skill, “Master, you look really nice today.”

“Cut the bullshit. Long Qing’er will definitely deal with you today. When that happens, I need to stand up for you as your master, so naturally I had to pretty myself up a little.” Jin Xiaoqin rolled her eyes at Ye Wenxin, who she firmly believed would be bullied today.

Ye Wenxin didn’t understand how looking pretty would relate to defending someone, but seeing Jin Xiaoqin’s kindness, she grinned and hugged her.

Ye Wenxin’s impudent behavior startled Jin Xiaoqin. When they were alone, it was fine, but now, in front of everyone, Jin Xiaoqin felt a bit of a headache.

She then felt Ye Wenxin squeeze her with a cheeky smile and gave her a firm slap on the butt, saying affectionately, “Master, you’re so good to me.”

Her words contradicted her actions entirely, making Jin Xiaoqin realize that this disciple of hers had become so audacious. Furious, she raised her hand to deliver another slap. Ye Wenxin’s figure flickered as she ran away quickly, disappearing into the crowd in the blink of an eye.

The sight left Jin Xiaoqin speechless. Just as she thought to chase after her, she sensed a disturbance among the crowd. Looking over, a woman dressed in white had appeared, instantly outshining everyone. She drew all the attention, and for a while, the crowd forgot to react.

In just the few months they hadn’t seen her, Fairy Fengya had become more beautiful, but she also lost a lot of weight.

Jin Xiaoqin still stood in place, watching Fairy Fengya, when she picked up a voice behind her. “This Fairy Fengya is really infuriating.” She turned her head and saw Ye Wenxin had run back to her side at some point.

Ye Wenxin’s comment snapped Jin Xiaoqin out of her shock. She grabbed Ye Wenxin’s arm, and the master and disciple bantered with each other, completely ignoring Fairy Fengya’s presence.

Before long, Jin Xiaoqin suddenly sensed a chill on her back. Turning around, she saw that Fairy Fengya had already walked past them. Jin Xiaoqin looked at the still bewildered Ye Wenxin. She couldn’t help feeling an inexplicable sense of crisis rising within her. She asked Ye Wenxin doubtfully, “Did Fairy Fengya just glance over here?”

Ye Wenxin shook her head confusedly, but knew that Fairy Fengya’s glance had been aimed at her. They were strangers now, however, so Fairy Fengya didn’t say anything, and Ye Wenxin was even less likely to give her any response.

Footnotes:

  1. For those who aren’t familiar with Chinese culture, red is not limited to weddings. Chinese New Year or any kind of auspicious Chinese celebration are always dominated with red, since it’s considered the most auspicious color in Chinese culture.

Know what’s an inauspicious color tho? White, bcs it symbolizes death and mourning, so it’s strictly for funerals. If you’re going to any Chinese celebration, don’t wear full white. ↩︎
