Chapter 309: Pro Ye Wenxin

Warning: Disturbing content.

The man’s belly flickered with a dark green ghostly face, staring at them intently.

“What is that?” Even the experienced and knowledgeable Jin Xiaoqin was baffled. More bizarrely, the other ghostly faces seemed to respond to the first one, as each started emitting a green glow through the clothing.

They swelled and wriggled inside the bellies, as if they were about to burst out at any moment.

The centaur paid no attention to what was happening behind her and continued to lead the way. She moved hurriedly, either because she had something urgent to attend to or because she completely disregarded the weak humans behind her.

The man who had fallen still couldn’t get up. He continued to mechanically walk despite his predicament. Suddenly, the ghostly face inside his belly bumped against his abdomen and burst out from within.

The man finally regained consciousness and struggled desperately. Before he could make a sound, the eerie, ghostly face devoured his head. Then, in swift succession, it consumed his neck and body whole, growing more grotesque and terrifying with each passing moment.

Ye Wenxin finally recognized what they were dealing with.

“This is a Yin Fetus.” Recently, in her efforts to understand more about Madam Yu’s Mystic Yin Physique, Ye Wenxin had been frequenting the Azure Wings Sect’s library, gaining new insights into the vague concept of Yin energy.

Long Qing’er looked a little puzzled. “Yin Fetus?”

Ye Wenxin began to explain. “People accumulate too much Yin energy from murder. To resolve this, the excess Yin energy must be transferred to those with pure Yang energy.”

“However, Yin energy is extremely elusive, it can’t be expelled from the body through normal means. As a result, the Yin energy gathers inside the person’s body, forming what we call a Yin Fetus.”

They looked at the bodies before them, each one harboring a Yin Fetus inside their bellies. It was truly hard to imagine that the master of this secret realm had an addiction to murder. Perhaps someone was exploiting this place to create more Yin Fetuses.

The four of them fell into a deep silence, remaining still and unnoticed. The Yin Fetus showed no interest as it flew into the air, quickly landing on a walking body.

It surveyed briefly before devouring the body, starting from the head before proceeding to consume the rest, including the Yin Fetus inside its belly, leaving nothing behind.

“It’s cannibalistic too?” Jin Xiaoqin couldn’t help but shudder as she watched this uncanny scene, beginning to worry about their group’s fate.

“The strong prey on the weak; this rule applies anywhere. We should fall back for now. That thing might come for us after eating its fill.” Ye Wenxin was frowning slightly; she truly hadn’t anticipated there would be mutations inside the secret realm, throwing a wrench into her leisurely vacation plans.

The others remained silent, well aware of the danger the Yin Fetus posed. Ye Wenxin pulled Xuan Luofei along, while Jin Xiaoqin took Long Qing’er.

As the four of them retreated about five hundred meters away, they sensed the Yin energy weakening slightly. When they looked back, they saw the endless line of bodies.

Spurred on by the first Yin Fetus, some of the other Yin Fetuses had also burst out, and were consuming the unhatched Yin Fetuses and their hosts.

The scene was gruesome, and even from this distance, the strong smell of blood filled the air. Ye Wenxin continued to watch as the centaur reached the wall.

They had expected the centaur to shout some command like ‘Open Sesame’, but instead, she simply glanced at the wall before passing right through it. The Yin Fetus hosts followed suit, crossing through the wall as well, leaving Ye Wenxin and the others dumbfounded.

“Are they using a phasing technique, or…?”

“Impossible. We’ve also checked every wall thoroughly. The answer must lie with the Yin Fetuses.” Jin Xiaoqin immediately refuted Long Qing’er’s suggestion.

Ye Wenxin remained silent, recalling her memory to see if there were any records of phasing techniques or similar abilities. However, she had read too few books on such supernatural phenomena to find any relevant information.

One thing she was certain of was that the Yin Fetuses had just been born and couldn’t possibly possess such extraordinary abilities.

“Once they’ve moved far enough away, we can investigate,” Ye Wenxin proposed after contemplating for a while, realizing it wasn’t feasible to approach them now or blend into their ranks.

The others nodded in agreement after observing the massive procession and the malevolent Yin Fetuses.

At this point, Ye Wenxin suddenly remembered that she wasn’t Demon Lord Gu Qingcheng and didn’t need to push herself too hard. She quickly tried to cover up from breaking character again, and called to the others.

“Any of you can take the first watch. I’m taking a nap.”

Jin Xiaoqin just waved her hand dismissively, unconcerned about Ye Wenxin’s current actions. She kept a careful watch, concerned the Yin Fetuses might discover their presence.

Seeing this, Ye Wenxin couldn’t help feeling a bit speechless. She glanced at Xuan Luofei, who looked at her hopefully, as if she might turn into a Zhu-zhu body pillow at any second. Eventually, Ye Wenxin threw the down quilt over Xuan Luofei before taking out a book from her bag of holding.

She used a dagger to make a cut on her finger and drew symbols on the cover.

This book, taken from the Snake Temple in Shura Hall’s backwoods, contained records of many strange occurrences. Ye Wenxin intended to try her luck and see if she could find some clues in its pages.

After confirming her idea, Ye Wenxin finished drawing the symbols for a talisman and began to focus. The book’s pages started flipping rapidly as she sifted through its contents. Although she found several relevant entries based on keywords, they bore no relation to the bizarre events unfolding before her eyes.

But she still managed to find a few lines about Yin Fetuses, giving some simple descriptions.

“They have no emotions or thoughts, possess extremely strong attack power, and like to roam in groups.” After reading the descriptions, Ye Wenxin couldn’t help sighing with relief. She was about to inform everyone of this fortunate find amidst their misfortune situation, when she noticed everyone staring at her.

“Wenxin, what kind of manual did you learn this from? It’s quite mystifying.” Jin Xiaoqin had the strangest expression.

Earlier, she witnessed Ye Wenxin using qi to disintegrate someone’s clothes, and now she saw her using blood to read the contents of a book. She wondered if the next step would involve cutting a piece of flesh to summon the spirits of the dead.

Ye Wenxin awkwardly smiled. “This is called the Search Talisman. Ahem, you should know about it, Senior Sister Qing’er.”

The creator of this Search Talisman was none other than Eldest Princess Long Qingyue of the Golden Age Dynasty. After mastering the spirit talisman arts, she created something similar to the text search function of an Earth computer. It was capable of searching an entire book based on keywords in the mind.

Long Qing’er showed an awkward expression, but she couldn’t possibly tell Ye Wenxin that she was bad with talismans, so she only nodded. “Uh, yes, it’s one of the talisman scripts my aunt invented.”
