Chapter 355: Going Directly for the Abbess?
Hei Haowen immediately fell silent and obediently sat cross-legged on the floor. As he chanted Buddhist scriptures, he quickly irritated the umbrella sword. Within three seconds, the umbrella sword expelled him from the room.
“Benefactor1 Wenxin, could you please ask the umbrella sword to stop?” Hei Haowen, feeling sullen and clearly no match for the umbrella sword, had to shout from outside. Ye Wenxin pretended not to hear, and let the umbrella sword keep teasing him until she finished refining the pills. With ten eighth-grade pills completed, she finally stepped out to check on the situation.
What she saw was Hei Haowen telling stories to the umbrella sword. Two translucent, pretty girls were sitting on a nearby rock, listening intently. The little grass on Hei Haowen’s head swayed with his movements, which amused Ye Wenxin greatly. She joined them in listening to Hei Haowen’s storytelling.
“So, about the Three Kingdoms…”
But she never dreamed that Hei Haowen was actually a fellow countryman from Earth. Ye Wenxin was rendered speechless, and as she looked again at the little grass on Hei Haowen’s head, she confirmed that he was just an unfortunate background character, who had ended up in this world by a twist of fate.
Ye Wenxin didn’t reveal her own Earth origins, and Hei Haowen’s stories momentarily transported her back to the bustling city life she once knew—cola, chips, computers, and mobile phones. But in this world, there was only endless cultivation.
Hei Haowen’s storytelling attracted a crowd, yet his presence didn’t seem to provoke any resentment. As some time passed, the sky grew dark, and Hei Haowen suddenly remembered his original purpose. He patted his bald head and said, “Wasn’t I here to find Benefactor Wenxin?”
Seeing the crowd around him, Hei Haowen gave an embarrassed smile. Ye Wenxin smiled back and led this unusual guest to the Azure Wings Sect’s dining hall.
“Actually, I came to the Azure Wings Sect’s recruitment, but I got eliminated in the second round,” Hei Haowen explained the reason he ended up as a Southern Dipper Temple disciple. Now, he had formally taken his vows and become a real monk.
Ye Wenxin’s memories of over a year ago were already quite fuzzy, and as she recalled that distant time, she just gave a perfunctory smile. After dinner, Hei Haowen finally revealed the purpose of his visit.
“By the way, this monk has come to request that Benefactor Wenxin accompany me back to the Southern Dipper Temple.” His request was sincere, and Abbot Shimie likely understood that Hei Haowen possessed an endearing aura and shared some affinity with Ye Wenxin, which was why he had sent him on this task.
Traveling with people from Earth often led to various adventures. Especially the time spent with Long Qingyue, where Ye Wenxin had witnessed many aspects of humanity. Meeting Zhao Teddy had also led her to new opportunities.
Now that she thought of it, Ye Wenxin realized this was her third encounter with someone from Earth. After a moment of contemplation, she decided to agree.
Firstly, the Azure Wings Sect had lost its novelty for her; secondly, even if the Sect Master could hold off the Southern Dipper Temple for a while, he couldn’t do so forever. With the Beast Taming Garden’s Spirit Beast Tournament yet to start, she decided to revisit the Southern Dipper Temple, and see if she could acquire some cultivation methods to mitigate her Qi Deviation.
Hei Haowen was initially incredulous upon hearing her decision, but then he broke into a pleased smile. They agreed on a time and place, and Hei Haowen quickly departed. The umbrella sword automatically returned to the sword loop, and Ye Wenxin returned to her room to pack her pills, preparing for an extended journey.
However, she had barely packed for half an hour, when her door was suddenly kicked open. Ye Wenxin turned in surprise to see Jin Xiaoqin storming in, her face cold with barely contained fury.
“Disciple, you absolutely cannot go to the Southern Dipper Temple with Hei Haowen!”
The Sect Master, though protective, was also quite greedy and easy to bribe. Because of this, the Southern Dipper Temple’s abbot, to make Ye Wenxin understand their desperation for the umbrella sword, used various means of coercion and bribery to persuade the Sect Master to stall Jin Xiaoqin. If Jin Xiaoqin hadn’t sensed something was wrong, she might not have even noticed Ye Wenxin leaving tomorrow.
“Don’t worry, Old Jin. I’m just going there to look around.”
Jin Xiaoqin added sarcastically, “And then make moves on the young nuns?”
Ye Wenxin was bemused. “No way; I have limited energy.”
Jin Xiaoqin, not letting up, glared at her intensely, seemingly unsure why she felt so angry. She wanted to act natural and decisive, but the thought of Ye Wenxin getting close to other girls made her feel incredibly frustrated. (TL: It’s called being jealous, Xiaoqin.)
“Oh, so you’re going directly for the abbess instead?”
“That’s even less likely, Old Jin. Calm down.” Ye Wenxin could see that Jin Xiaoqin was genuinely upset, which was giving her a headache. She considered using the umbrella sword to knock Jin Xiaoqin out, but the ghosts were uncooperative at the moment. Their eyes were filled with anticipation, as if they wanted to see the drama between Ye Wenxin and Jin Xiaoqin continue to unfold.
“I am calm!” Jin Xiaoqin gritted her teeth, pacing back and forth, trying to calm herself down, but the more she thought about it, the angrier she became.
She was furious at the Sect Master for getting bribed, and even more frustrated that Ye Wenxin didn’t understand her painstaking efforts. She protected and cared for her, but Ye Wenxin still insisted on walking into danger, which made Jin Xiaoqin feel stifled.
“Quick, knock Old Jin out, or you won’t be eating tonight!” Ye Wenxin finally couldn’t hold back and raised her voice. Hearing the threat of no food, the umbrella sword immediately lunged at Jin Xiaoqin. Jin Xiaoqin reacted quickly, dodging the sword’s attack, but the umbrella hit her on the back.
When Jin Xiaoqin fell to the ground, unconscious, Ye Wenxin let out a breath. Sword Ghost and Ghost Mother eagerly surrounded her, demanding their promised meal.
“Hold on, let me settle Old Jin first.” Ye Wenxin pushed aside the semi-transparent forms of the two ghosts and then lifted the unconscious Jin Xiaoqin, carrying her to the bed. The ghosts impatiently followed her, and as soon as she laid Jin Xiaoqin down, they pounced on Ye Wenxin.
The two ghosts clung to her sides, making Ye Wenxin shiver with a bone-deep chill, but she didn’t resist. Feeling her compliance, the ghosts slightly opened their mouths and began to feed. Black energy naturally flowed out of Ye Wenxin’s body and into the ghosts. The sensation was strange, weird, yet pleasurable, almost eliciting a moan from Ye Wenxin, but she held back with all her might.
This time, however, the two ghosts seemed particularly enthusiastic, and Ye Wenxin felt something was amiss. Quickly, she tried to divert their attention. “Gui Gui, do the Yin-Yang Pearls really enable conception?”
She remembered what Abbess Jiunan had mentioned a few days ago and wanted to see if Ghost Mother knew more about it.
