Chapter 393: Willing Bait
At this moment, she was still wearing her plain clothes, yet they couldn’t conceal her stunning beauty. She had a tall and voluptuous figure, perfectly proportioned. As her appearance changed, the air about her underwent a complete transformation—enchantingly gorgoeus.
Long Qingyue’s gaze finally softened with a hint of a smile, and she pulled Ye Wenxin back into her arms, saying playfully, “Give Master a smile, girl.”
Long Qingyue was playing up her domineering CEO persona, and Ye Wenxin naturally settled back into her lap, pretending to be shy as they indulged in the playful role-playing they often engaged in when bored.
Ye Wenxin, sensing that the atmosphere had eased considerably, thought back to her resistance earlier, which might have upset Long Qingyue, so she couldn’t help but ask, “Were you angry earlier?”
If Long Qingyue had been able to read her thoughts in that moment, she wouldn’t have only accessed her current thoughts, but potentially also her memories.
Ye Wenxin didn’t want Long Qingyue to see the changes she had been going through lately. Because of how exceptional Long Qingyue was, Ye Wenxin always wanted to present her best self to her. However, for someone like Long Qingyue, who had a strong desire for control, the unknown was an absolutely terrifying concept.
Ye Wenxin knew this but still held firm to her earlier thoughts.
“Not really; I just noticed that you’ve grown up, Qingcheng. You’ve even learned to resist,” Long Qingyue murmured as she gently touched Ye Wenxin’s back, as if memorizing her warmth and feel.
Ye Wenxin had grown accustomed to physical contact with others, but Long Qingyue caressing her still felt very strange. Despite this, she didn’t resist and awkwardly said, “Ahem, there are some things I’d rather you not see.”
“Oh, is it a little, or a lot?”
Long Qingyue asked again, as if she could tell from her expression alone that Ye Wenxin was hiding many things. Ye Wenxin, feeling even more awkward, touched her nose. She wanted to maintain her dignity as Demon Lord Gu Qingcheng, but felt that there was no need to pretend in front of Long Qingyue, so she simply nodded.
“Quite a lot.”
“Hehehe.”
Long Qingyue chuckled, her eyes carrying a hint of amusement. Although her outward demeanor didn’t change, Ye Wenxin still felt that Long Qingyue was acting oddly.
“Master, this woman is so frightening.”
“Yes, it’s like she’s completely inscrutable.”
The Yin-Yang ghosts had a natural fear of strong beings, and sensing Long Qingyue’s extraordinary presence, they didn’t even dare to show themselves. Ye Wenxin gave a wry smile, but she understood that sense of danger.
When Long Qingyue was in a good mood, they treated each other with great respect and warmth.
However, when Long Qingyue was in a bad mood, she would become like the strictest teacher, evoking a natural sense of awe. Although Ye Wenxin was reluctant to admit it, in this lifetime, she had only felt reverence for Long Qingyue.
Ye Wenxin felt even more guilty, especially with her current somewhat degenerate private life.
Although they were just friends, Ye Wenxin couldn’t shake the feeling that if Long Qingyue were to read her memories, she would rage.
“Qingcheng.” Suddenly, Long Qingyue’s tone changed, and Ye Wenxin instinctively responded. She noticed Long Qingyue’s eyes flicker with red light again, trying to forcibly extract everything she was hiding.
Ye Wenxin hastily resisted, and the peach blossom chains reappeared to bind Long Qingyue’s blood lion aura. However, the blood lion aura was so powerful that after only a few struggles, it broke free from the peach blossom chains.
Ye Wenxin struggled in resistance, grasping at Long Qingyue’s arms, using gentle force to remind her to tone it down. Yet, this act of force prompted a fierce counteraction from Long Qingyue, who abruptly pushed Ye Wenxin away, her eyes showing a hint of fear.
Ye Wenxin was shoved out of the palanquin, and fell towards the blood-red sea. Seeing this, she quickly summoned the Phoenix Fire to float back in the air.
“You’ve gone too far this time, Yue’er.” Ye Wenxin frowned slightly. Even though a red phoenix was supporting her, the Phoenix Fire seemed to be mere decoration. Long Qingyue opened the curtain, still wearing a faint smile, and continued, “I apologize, but no matter what, I must know what’s in your memories.”
Ye Wenxin was exasperated and insisted, “There’s really nothing worth seeing.”
Long Qingyue’s smile didn’t change. “But if you don’t show me, how will I know whether it’s worth seeing or not?”
This provoked Ye Wenxin, who felt that Long Qingyue was just looking for trouble today. She frowned slightly and asked, “What if I don’t want to?”
Long Qingyue’s smile vanished, and she said coldly, “Then we’ll have to fight.”
In that instant, the palanquin transformed into a flat platform, and Long Qingyue’s figure fully emerged. She took out talismans from her bag of holding, and they floated in the air, before beginning to attack Ye Wenxin with precision.
Against Long Qingyue, Ye Wenxin naturally didn’t hold back. An explosion suddenly erupted from the sea, and the seawater transformed into blood-colored flowers that surged towards Long Qingyue, colliding with the talismans.
If Nascent Soul stage cultivators fought like celestial beings, those above the Nascent Soul stage were even more earth-shaking. Flowers bloomed from the sea, transforming into enormous man-eating flowers, seemingly trying to engulf Long Qingyue.
However, Long Qingyue remained calm and unperturbed. The talismans flew out from her hand and turned into a giant hand, crushing the blood flowers. Water splashed everywhere, and the umbrella sword behind Ye Wenxin unfolded, helping to shield her from the incoming blood water.
Meanwhile, Long Qingyue was spotless, as she seemed to have used a defensive talisman at some point.
Long Qingyue was definitely worthy of her reputation as the foremost talisman expert. Yet, like Ye Wenxin, she was only destined to be a villain.
So, this battle between two villains seemed utterly meaningless.
Ye Wenxin felt that something was wrong with Long Qingyue. Her actions appeared very deliberate, as if she were intentionally trying to create a spectacle.
In her moment of contemplation, Ye Wenxin heard Ghost Mother’s voice again.
“Master, something is approaching rapidly.”
Ye Wenxin became even more tense. While dealing with Long Qingyue’s attacks, she sensed a disturbance in the water. The next second, a strange creature emerged from the sea.
It resembled an octopus, but was covered in dark green luminescence, and its eyes were hollow. It immediately launched an attack after seeing them. Ye Wenxin used Flower Burial to blow off the extending tentacles.
“Master, this is the same water monster from before, but it seems to have turned into a jiangshi.” Ghost Mother’s voice sounded again. Ye Wenxin was momentarily stunned, wondering how the jiangshi’s poison could be so severe that it could even affect sea creatures.
Various fish began leaping from the sea, attacking Ye Wenxin and Long Qingyue.
Long Qingyue appeared somewhat disappointed and sighed, “Despite the willing bait, it appears it’s still not willing to come.”
