Chapter 395: Don’t Mistake Me for a Kitten (1st Update)
Ye Wenxin appeared distracted. Priest Wang assumed it was due to the fatigue accumulated from her long journey and didn’t continue the conversation. Instead, he said, “It’s getting late. You should rest early, Grandmaster.”
Ye Wenxin glanced at the people still standing guard, feeling that it would be somewhat rude for her to go to sleep now. She hesitated briefly but then politely offered, “I should stay and keep watch with everyone.”
Priest Wang looked at the busy crowd outside and smiled appreciatively. “There are already enough people here. You don’t need to trouble yourself, Grandmaster. Besides, after today, the situation in Yangzhou City will become even more challenging. It’s best to sleep when you can.”
Ye Wenxin nodded slightly, not insisting further. As a minor character, she needed sufficient sleep to maintain the basic physical strength humans required. She walked into the tent, only to once again see Long Qingyue sitting in a wheelchair.
Both of them were momentarily stunned upon seeing each other, clearly not expecting to meet again under such circumstances.
“Grandmaster, I forgot to tell you. We’ve moved your quarters!” Priest Wang shouted from outside the tent, his tone carrying a hint of embarrassment. He didn’t dare enter a woman’s tent but was simultaneously worried that Ye Wenxin’s actions might upset Long Qingyue.
His words served both as a reminder and as a way to defuse the situation. However, if Long Qingyue were in a bad mood, what Ye Wenxin was doing now could be considered a serious offense.
“You heard him; I didn’t intentionally come in here.”
Ye Wenxin smiled awkwardly, constantly feeling that she was really being a bit reserved. Long Qingyue’s assertiveness today made her realize that Long Qingyue hadn’t changed at all, while she herself had changed significantly.
Ye Wenxin had developed an interest in women, and even went so far as to engage with anyone to upgrade her peach blossom luck. However, this ‘anyone’ didn’t include Long Qingyue. Even if the peach blossom chains could truly help Ye Wenxin, she would never consider doing such a thing with Long Qingyue.
This was her bottom line. She also didn’t want Long Qingyue to notice this shift in her mindset, nor did she want Long Qingyue to realize that she, Gu Qingcheng, was no longer a mere observer but had become an active participant.
“Your Highness, I deeply apologize. The Grandmaster didn’t mean it,” Priest Wang shouted from outside, kneeling in fear of Long Qingyue.
If it had been anyone else, Long Qingyue might have punished them, but the person in question was Ye Wenxin. After a moment of thought, she replied, “It’s fine. I seem to have some fate with this cultivator. Besides, there’s no need to be so particular during times like these. Since Miss Wenxin is already here, she can share the tent with me.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Priest Wang was so startled that his legs went weak. Throughout his life, he had kneeled before Celestial Master Zhong’s portrait more than anything else, but he never imagined that in just a single month, he would find himself kneeling before so many people. Now, hearing Long Qingyue’s response, Priest Wang became even more worried about Ye Wenxin’s safety.
“Your Highness, you are of noble status; this is absolutely inappropriate.”
“What’s inappropriate? We are both women, so there’s no need for such formalities. Isn’t that right, Miss Wenxin?” Long Qingyue smoothly shifted the responsibility onto Ye Wenxin, who forced a smile, feeling increasingly uneasy.
Although Long Qingyue’s words seemed generous, they were actually filled with subtle intentions. She elevated Ye Wenxin, yet gave her no room to refuse. If it were daytime, when they were both fully alert, it might have been manageable. But Ye Wenxin was worried that, while she was asleep, Long Qingyue might try to read her mind for the third time.
Given the circumstances, Ye Wenxin couldn’t find any reasonable excuse to decline, so she could only respond, “Then it would be rude to refuse. However, there’s only one bed—where should I sleep?”
Long Qingyue smiled softly. “With me, naturally.”
As soon as those words were spoken, Priest Wang, who had just stood up, was so shocked, that he fell back to his knees with a loud thud. The sound stunned Ye Wenxin, who then turned her gaze toward Long Qingyue. Long Qingyue, seemingly also puzzled by Priest Wang’s excessive reaction, looked back at Ye Wenxin. The two of them exchanged glances and, almost simultaneously, burst into laughter.
Priest Wang was completely unaware of the inside story between Long Qingyue and Ye Wenxin. He anxiously awaited a response, pacing back and forth, wanting to enter but too afraid to step into the women’s quarters.
After a moment, Ye Wenxin’s voice finally came through: “Priest Wang, I’ll stay here, then. You should get some rest too.”
Only after hearing this did Priest Wang relax. He bowed lightly toward the tent before quickly leaving, granting Ye Wenxin and Long Qingyue some privacy.
Ye Wenxin surveyed the changes inside the tent. When she turned around, she saw Long Qingyue once again fiddling with her sleeves. But today, she was no longer wearing the resplendent garments from that day, leaving Ye Wenxin puzzled as to why Long Qingyue had developed such a habit.
Long Qingyue seemed completely unaware of her own small gestures. She looked at Ye Wenxin and pointed to the bed.
“Going to sleep now?”
It was already midnight, and Ye Wenxin didn’t feel the least bit sleepy. But Long Qingyue had invited her, so she nodded and then added, “But you have to promise not to read my memories.”
Long Qingyue couldn’t understand Ye Wenxin’s resistance.
In the past, Demon Lord Gu Qingcheng had been completely open with her, and it was this openness that allowed someone as insecure as Long Qingyue to feel comfortable being friends with her. But now, Ye Wenxin’s insistent refusal stirred an indescribable sense of unease in Long Qingyue, as if something was about to disrupt the delicate balance she had maintained for so long.
“You were never afraid of these things before.” Long Qingyue maintained her gentle facade, her words soft yet imbued with an irresistible force.
As Ye Wenxin looked at her, she noticed that Long Qingyue’s blood-red lion had transformed into a kitten, as if trying to use tenderness to coax Ye Wenxin into submission.
“That was before. If you read my memories, you’ll definitely end up hating me.” Ye Wenxin finally voiced her true thoughts, then watched as Long Qingyue’s brows furrowed slightly, a clear sign of her strong aversion to that statement.
“If I were going to hate you, I would have done so long ago. I wouldn’t have waited until now.”
Long Qingyue continued to verbally entice Ye Wenxin, exercising great patience. Meanwhile, her aura, now in the form of a kitten, subtly inched closer, attempting to use its harmless appearance to win back Ye Wenxin’s trust.
However, the blood-red kitten was far too conspicuous. The peach blossom chains also appeared, blocking the kitten and preventing Long Qingyue from getting any closer.
The blood-red kitten, noticing this, opened its mouth wide and, with a shake, transformed back into a blood-red lion, intent on clashing with Ye Wenxin’s peach blossom aura. In just a few moves, the lion shredded the peach blossom chains into pieces.
Yet, because Ye Wenxin’s luck was flowers, peach blossom petals began to drift down from the air. Despite their gentle appearance, they had a powerful effect when they struck the blood-red lion. The lion, seemingly hurt, whimpered and retreated.
The peach blossoms then merged with a golden light in the air to reform into the peach blossom chains.
