Chapter 396: Ghost Mother’s Counterattack! (2nd Update)

Ye Wenxin felt a little happy, but managed to suppress the smile threatening to break across her face. She looked at Long Qingyue, pretending nothing had happened. To her surprise, Long Qingyue’s expression changed, and her lips parted slightly before she coughed up a mouthful of blood.

Long Qingyue seemed more shocked than concerned about her own injury. She showed no reaction to the fact that she had just spat blood.

“Yue’er, are you okay?”

Ye Wenxin sensed something wrong with this situation, but Long Qingyue simply waved her hand. She retrieved a handkerchief from her storage ring to wipe the blood from the corners of her mouth. “It’s nothing. You seem to have quite a few secrets. My mind-reading ability actually failed.”

Her tone remained calm, and her face still bore the same smile, as gentle as a spring breeze, betraying no hint of her true emotions.

Ye Wenxin felt quite embarrassed, not expecting that the conflict between their auras would actually harm Long Qingyue herself. She hurriedly stepped forward, trying to grasp Long Qingyue’s arm to check her pulse, but Long Qingyue pulled away, her expression growing more peculiar.

Just as Ye Wenxin’s secrets continued to multiply, Long Qingyue found herself with things she had to keep hidden as well.

Although Long Qingyue was adept at concealing her tenfold sensitivity, the pain from physical contact was evident. While she dismissed contact with others, Ye Wenxin was someone she couldn’t guard against.

“What’s up with you? I’m only trying to check your pulse; I mean no harm,” Ye Wenxin added awkwardly, assuming Long Qingyue was simply wary of her, yet felt a bit hurt inside.

Long Qingyue subconsciously began to smooth her sleeves again, drawing Ye Wenxin’s attention to her actions to cover up her unusual reaction at the contact.

“No, I can check my own pulse.” Saying this, Long Qingyue placed her left hand over her right wrist, assessing her condition.

“It’s just that your resistance has slightly damaged my qi,” she continued, quickly diagnosing herself. Ye Wenxin felt even more awkward. She sat two spaces away from Long Qingyue, waiting patiently for any further reprimands.

Long Qingyue was initially a bit annoyed, but seeing Ye Wenxin being so compliant, and reconsidering that the incident wasn’t entirely Ye Wenxin’s fault, she said, “Alright, I’ll let you off today.”

The unspoken message was clear: just because she was let off today, didn’t guarantee the same outcome tomorrow. Ye Wenxin sighed in relief and was about to get onto the bed when she suddenly remembered Long Qingyue’s mobility issues. She added, “I’ll carry you to bed.”

This was a gesture they had often shared, but Long Qingyue’s sensitivity was growing worse, so she shook her head in refusal. Instead, she quickly mobilized her qi and levitated off the wheelchair. Ye Wenxin stared in disbelief and, upon closer inspection, noticed that the material of Long Qingyue’s clothing seemed quite special.

“Is this a silken robe?” Ye Wenxin looked on in astonishment, feeling that Long Qingyue truly knew how to enjoy life.

Forget about the previous clothes that were impervious to weapons and the elements; the current attire was even more priceless.

It was lightweight and breathable, crafted from the same material as the so-called celestial garment1. Most remarkably, it could be manipulated with qi, allowing the wearer to float in the air, and even perform feats normally associated with flying swords.

Now, seeing the world’s rarest silken robe as Long Qingyue’s clothing, Ye Wenxin couldn’t help but be amazed.

Long Qingyue didn’t deny Ye Wenxin’s observation. She floated gracefully onto the bed, appearing as if she were an immortal or a ghostly apparition. It appeared beautiful, yet there was an indescribable sense of strangeness.

While Ye Wenxin was thinking this, the Yin-Yang ghosts drifted out from the umbrella sword. She watched them float in the air, and figured out the source of the strangeness she had been sensing.

Although Long Qingyue moved and flew very gracefully, Ye Wenxin had become accustomed to the Yin-Yang ghosts. She couldn’t shake the impression that the floating Long Qingyue seemed like a ghost.

“Master, I’m hungry.”

“Master, your taste is much better today.”

During today’s sea battle, Ye Wenxin had slain several jiangshi fish and even collected the water monster’s head. The accumulation of Yin energy had made the Yin-Yang ghosts more active.

But with Long Qingyue present, Ye Wenxin couldn’t let them bite her here and there. Instead, she lay in bed and murmured to the ghosts in her mind, “Let’s wait until tomorrow morning. I want to sleep.”

“But, Master, I’m really hungry.”

“Yeah, if you hadn’t been searching for the Yin-Yang Pearls this morning, I wouldn’t be so famished.”

The two ghosts protested, their excessive morning expenditure compounded by Ye Wenxin’s now deliciously rich Yin energy, making them even more impatient.

Ye Wenxin was in a difficult position. “Can’t you see I’m sharing a bed with someone? I promise to feed you tomorrow morning!”

Ghost Mother was already displeased about Ye Wenxin sleeping with someone, but hearing Ye Wenxin’s shameless acknowledgment, she decided to directly possess Long Qingyue.

Before she could stop her, Ye Wenxin noticed a change in Long Qingyue’s expression. Immediately after, Ghost Mother was ejected, with an odd look on her face.

“Master, this woman is crazy!”

“You’re the one who’s crazy!”

Hearing Ghost Mother berate Long Qingyue, Ye Wenxin impulsively reached out to grab her, intending to discipline her. However, as soon as she did, Long Qingyue, who had completely regained her awareness, shivered. She then began scanning her surroundings vigilantly.

Ye Wenxin thought she might get blamed for Ghost Mother’s actions, and immediately closed her eyes. She feigned sleep, trying to avoid any fallout from the incident.

Long Qingyue, on high alert, quickly noticed Ye Wenxin pretending to be asleep. She immediately suspected Ye Wenxin was the culprit. However, remembering her agreement with Ye Wenxin, she decided to use her mind-reading ability once dawn broke.

So Long Qingyue closed her eyes and turned her back to Ye Wenxin, trying to feign sleep despite her extreme sensitivity. Yet, she found it impossible. The chill just now had intensified her awareness of Ye Wenxin’s body heat, and allowed her to clearly sense even the faintest movements.

Unable to understand what was happening with Ye Wenxin, Long Qingyue slowly turned her head and saw Ye Wenxin facing away from her, appearing as if she were embracing something invisible.

The weird scene made it look as if a ghost had possessed Ye Wenxin. Long Qingyue couldn’t help but shiver and reopen her celestial eye, which she had previously closed.

At that moment, she clearly saw the green-haired, green-eyed ghostly woman Ye Wenxin was holding. The ghost, entangled with Ye Wenxin, was greedily seeking her Yin energy through their lips.

The ghost seemed to have noticed Long Qingyue’s gaze, and showed a sinister smile. She tugged more forcefully at Ye Wenxin’s clothing, as if silently flaunting something to Long Qingyue.

  1. 1. In Chinese mythology, 仙, celestial/fairy garment, is what enables fairies/celestial beings to fly and travel between realms, which is why people often try to steal their clothing while they’re down in the mortal realm. ↩︎
