Chapter 407: Ghost Mother vs. Long Qingyue (1st Update)
However, Demon Lord Gu Qingcheng’s appearance had nearly reached the pinnacle of this world, and wherever Long Qingyue wandered, she couldn’t find anyone more beautiful than herself.
As Demon Lord Gu Qingcheng became increasingly famous, Long Qingyue, who had initially been unwilling to live according to her original identity, started to feel a bit lonely when she realized how prominent Demon Lord Gu Qingcheng’s reputation was becoming.
In this state, she came across a woman.
The woman was obedient and well-behaved, and although her identity was unclear, it wasn’t something Long Qingyue cared about. She began to play a game of house with the woman, and treated her as if she were Demon Lord Gu Qingcheng.
She taught her ordinary people’s common knowledge, their perceptions, and then created a version of Demon Lord Gu Qingcheng that existed in her imagination. But since it was just a game, Long Qingyue soon grew tired of it. Eventually, at a certain place, she gave the woman some silver taels, and told her to survive on her own.
The woman, reluctant to part, begged Long Qingyue not to abandon her, and was willing to continue playing the role of Gu Qingcheng. Long Qingyue still remembered the words she had spoken at that time: “You can imitate her, but you will never be her.”
Long Qingyue cruelly refused the woman’s companionship. Later, as Demon Lord Gu Qingcheng became more and more famous, Long Qingyue spent many years wandering under the alias Cuihua. In the end, she couldn’t bear being so lonely anymore. She transformed from Cuihua back into Long Qingyue, and reclaimed her original royal identity.
But no one could have predicted that after Long Qingyue caught up to Gu Qingcheng’s status and position, Demon Lord Gu Qingcheng would flee, while she was stuck in the Golden Age Dynasty.
Long Qingyue rarely sighed, but this sigh wasn’t for that woman—it was for herself. Even though she had prepared her script, the most important female lead was missing. This feeling made her particularly annoyed, especially with Ye Wenxin’s recent behavior, which had pushed Long Qingyue to the limits of her tolerance.
“Your Highness, what’s wrong?” Sensing something unusual about Long Qingyue, Xiao Zhang couldn’t help but ask.
This question pulled Long Qingyue back to reality. She quickly regained her usual elegant and composed demeanor, smiling gently at Xiao Zhang before replying, “Nothing; I just remembered something amusing.”
Xiao Zhang dared not ask further, nor did she dare to guess Long Qingyue’s thoughts. She lowered her head, awaiting her next instructions. Long Qingyue was still somewhat distracted. She fixed her gaze on Ye Wenxin, wanting to see if the ghost that followed her was still there.
Upon closer inspection, there were no traces of any ghostly presence around Ye Wenxin. Long Qingyue let out a breath, assuming that Ye Wenxin had grown tired of playing with ghosts. But when she looked again, Ye Wenxin’s umbrella sword began to move on its own, without any wind. Then, a red ghost and a green ghost appeared, circling around Ye Wenxin.
The surrounding area was filled with the howling of wolves, as if to reflect the turmoil in Long Qingyue’s heart. She had thought that Ye Wenxin was only involved with one ghost, but unexpectedly, it was two.
The two ghosts looked identical, but their expressions and demeanors were entirely different. The red ghost was relatively introverted and calm, while the green ghost was staring directly at Long Qingyue.
“Master, that crazy woman—uh, no, that woman is watching you,” said Ghost Mother, who had dark green hair and eyes. As soon as she emerged, she instinctively scanned her surroundings and immediately noticed Long Qingyue’s gaze.
Despite Long Qingyue’s calm gaze, Ghost Mother couldn’t shake her discomfort, and she instinctively wrapped her arms around Ye Wenxin’s neck. Her translucent form hovered in the air, and with the recent nourishment of Yin energy, she appeared even more breathtakingly beautiful. This allure carried a dangerous quality.
Most of the people in the One Short Sect had Yin-Yang Eyes, which allowed them to see spirits, but they couldn’t understand Ghost Mother’s words. They couldn’t help staring at her bewitching appearance, and when she slightly frowned, they felt as if their hearts were being squeezed. They were overwhelmed with pity for her, to the point where they were almost willing to die for her.
Ye Wenxin, however, remained unfazed and tapped Ghost Mother on the head. “Stop talking nonsense; she’s not someone you can afford to provoke.” Ye Wenxin warned her with a hint of exasperation. Ghost Mother obediently fell silent, but kept her gaze on Long Qingyue, purposely nuzzling against Ye Wenxin’s face to show her affection.
If Sword Ghost resembled a shy and introverted girl, then Ghost Mother was more like a pet with a strong sense of possessiveness, having inherited all her original self’s bad traits.
The next second, Ye Wenxin could feel Ghost Mother’s killing intent. There was no need to guess—today, Ghost Mother was acting up again. She was openly making her move, knowing that Ye Wenxin wouldn’t dare to discipline her with this many people around.
The onlookers were now frightened out of their wits, but then they saw Ye Wenxin gently grab Ghost Mother’s wrist, and stopped her attack. A chill spread through the air, causing the temperature to drop, and everyone couldn’t help but shiver.
In just a fleeting moment, Ghost Mother reined in her ferocious side and continued, “Master, won’t you let me kill you once?” Her tone was light and cheerful, as if she were talking about something completely ordinary. The others assumed she was just playing around, completely unaware of the murderous intent behind her beauty.
Ye Wenxin sighed in resignation. “I only have one life. If you kill me, that’s it.”
Ghost Mother’s smile grew even brighter, and she wrapped her arms back around Ye Wenxin’s neck, laughing heartily. Ye Wenxin, sensing that Ghost Mother was becoming increasingly brazen, frowned slightly. “If you keep this up, I’ll come for the Yin-Yang Pearls tonight.”
Ghost Mother’s face showed a hint of fear, and she finally let go. She obediently floated in the middle with Sword Ghost, yet she couldn’t resist glancing at Long Qingyue to see her reaction.
But Long Qingyue seemed not to have seen her at all, and was instead surveying the surroundings.
“Everyone, get ready. We’re about to reach the valley,” Priest Wang reminded from the front, his peachwood sword already in hand.
To explore this uncharted area, over a hundred people had come along. The group’s expressions were serious, and they no longer chatted or let their minds wander. Instead, they each pulled out their weapons and magic items, then followed the main group as they entered the valley.
Although it was daytime, the dark clouds above obscured the sun from shining over the valley, filling the area with a sense of doom and gloom that was deeply unsettling. Ye Wenxin led the group, using a special compass to track jiangshi traces.
“The Jiangshi King is indeed in this valley, but won’t be easy to find. Everyone, be very careful; the number of jiangshi here might be even greater than what I observed before,” Ye Wenxin also reminded the group, as the memories she inherited from Celestial Master Zhong allowed her to quickly adopt the mindset of a Daoist priest.
After issuing the warning, she looked at the seven furballs on the ground and instructed them: “You all go search for the Jiangshi King nearby. Remember, don’t force yourselves. If you can’t win, retreat.”
The furballs immediately burrowed into the ground and left, but the onlookers were still curious. It was only then that Ye Wenxin realized this was the first time the others had seen her ‘children’.
