Chapter 432: Seeing Liu Churan Again
“Aren’t you afraid?”
“At worst, I’ll just keep running away… Besides… don’t I have you, the Eldest Princess?” Ye Wenxin’s eyes carried a hint of flattery. She knew that if Long Qingyue wanted to handle something like this, all it would take was a single glance.
Long Qingyue smiled faintly. “It’s too late for flattery now.”
Ye Wenxin was slightly taken aback. “Did you kill her?”
Long Qingyue laughed out loud. “What are you thinking? Xiao Zhang is loyal and devoted. I still need her to continue serving me.”
Ye Wenxin laughed along with her, and voiced her agreement, “Indeed, Xiao Zhang is a good subordinate.” She remembered how she had previously wanted to recruit Xiao Zhang as her own subordinate, but in trying to win her over, they had instead grown closer in a different way.
Although most of it was due to Long Qingyue brainwashing and manipulating Xiao Zhang behind the scenes, Ye Wenxin didn’t think that Xiao Zhang would end up having feelings for her. Perhaps Xiao Zhang might actually be more interested in the fictional figure of Mo Niancheng, than in a fourteen-year-old like Ye Wenxin.
Long Qingyue seemed to have seen through Ye Wenxin’s thoughts and added, “But she wouldn’t make a good lover.”
Ye Wenxin did not deny this. “So, stop pushing her my way.”
Long Qingyue started fiddling with her sleeves again and acquiesced, “I will.”
This promise reassured Ye Wenxin. Despite how domineering she was, Long Qingyue always kept her promises, so Ye Wenxin, with absolute faith in her, grinned at Long Qingyue.
Long Qingyue also felt very relaxed, as if they had returned to the past, but some things were subtly different. It was hard to pinpoint what had changed, but it was not a frightening feeling, and Ye Wenxin allowed herself to embrace that evolving emotion…
“By the way, have you found Mo Rou?” The topic of their casual chat shifted as Ye Wenxin suddenly recalled the shy, bashful young woman. She had been such an interesting girl, yet had ended up with her life extinguished, leaving no remains.
Long Qingyue looked up in confusion. “Mo Rou is the Jiangshi King.”
In that instant, Ye Wenxin remembered more details of her teasing Mo Rou and felt a wave of discomfort. Her voice trembled as she asked, “Are you sure?”
Long Qingyue nodded. “Mo Rou is the identity she used while waiting for Mo Niancheng.”
Ye Wenxin was astonished. “But if she’s been waiting for Mo Niancheng all this time, how did she suddenly become the Jiangshi King?” Ye Wenxin still couldn’t grasp the intricacies of the situation. She noticed a hint of seriousness in Long Qingyue’s eyes as she continued, “Perhaps someone learned about this story, and deliberately tempted Mo Rou to cause destruction.”
Ye Wenxin was somewhat upset by this and exclaimed, “What! Who would be so senseless!?”
Long Qingyue showed a half-smiling, half-serious expression. “Someone you know.”
In that instant, her beloved adopted daughter Liu Churan came to mind. With the previous incidents involving the secret realm and her raising of the Yin Fetuses, it was entirely possible that Liu Churan had met with the Jiangshi King.
But how could there be such a coincidence?
“Wait a minute, how did she find out about Mo Rou’s story?”
Ye Wenxin had a feeling that Long Qingyue was also involved in this matter. Long Qingyue finally showed a sheepish smile. “When Liu Churan was young, I told her about Mo Niancheng. I didn’t expect that girl to have such a good memory.”
For a moment, Ye Wenxin really wanted to punch Long Qingyue.
Not only that, but she also wanted to punch Liu Churan. This world had been so peaceful and wonderful. Why was it that the ones who loved to stir up trouble, were all people she knew well? If Liu Churan was indeed behind this, turning the Jiangshi King from a normal, shy girl into a yandere would fit her style entirely.
“You two… Is it still possible for me to cut ties with you now?”
Long Qingyue smiled faintly, not at all angry. “Of course not… You should be thanking me, actually. If it weren’t for me, you might have encountered your beloved adopted daughter a week ago.”
Long Qingyue intentionally emphasized the word ‘adopted’, as they used to joke around with adoptive family titles—adopted daughter, adoptive mother, adoptive father. Ye Wenxin never expected that such familiar scenarios would play out in her own life.
Ye Wenxin felt so awkward that she didn’t know what to say. Just then, Long Qingyue seemed to notice something and smiled, “She’s here.”
While Long Qingyue was saying that, Ye Wenxin actually saw a red figure flying in the distance. Liu Churan was wearing a red dress more glaring than snow, and had a worried expression on her face. She quickly landed in front of Long Qingyue and immediately asked, “Where is she!?”
There was no greeting, as if Liu Churan had come here solely for Demon Lord Gu Qingcheng. Ye Wenxin felt extremely awkward, and couldn’t help but glare at Long Qingyue, sensing that her cover was once again on the verge of being blown.
Everyone knew about the close relationship between Demon Lord Gu Qingcheng and Eldest Princess Long Qingyue. With Ye Wenxin standing right next to Long Qingyue in her alternate form, it was as good as giving away a clue to the answer Liu Churan was looking for.
“She’s right here,” Long Qingyue said, pointing to Ye Wenxin.
Ye Wenxin felt her heart drop. Liu Churan finally seemed to notice Ye Wenxin, and a look of disdain reappeared in her eyes. Perhaps it was due to Ye Wenxin’s previously subservient behavior, or for other reasons, but Liu Churan would never associate Ye Wenxin with Demon Lord Gu Qingcheng.
“Long time no see, Miss Liu,” Ye Wenxin responded awkwardly, but she still chose to believe that Long Qingyue could successfully deceive Liu Churan.
“Long Qingyue, what do you mean by this?”
Long Qingyue was not at all irritated by Liu Churan addressing her by her full name, and continued, “You were much cuter when you were little, calling me ‘sister’ so sweetly.”
Liu Churan seemed to have recovered from her agitation, as she was smiling charmingly. “Nonsense, I clearly always called you ‘old hag’.”
While the two were exchanging verbal jabs, Ye Wenxin tried hard to blend into the background, wanting to slip away from yet another round of their endless bickering. But Liu Churan seemed to catch onto something and pointed at Ye Wenxin. “You’re having her play my Qingcheng’s role? That’s just too terrible.”
The clever Liu Churan quickly sensed something was afoot, and gazed at Ye Wenxin with even more disdain. Ye Wenxin should have felt relieved, but instead, she felt insulted. Her emotions were in turmoil—stuck between wanting to defend herself or keep silent. Just then, she heard Long Qingyue stepping in to defend her.
“There’s nothing wrong with being ordinary.”
Liu Churan pouted, acting a bit coquettish in front of Long Qingyue. She attempted to Charm Long Qingyue, but Long Qingyue remained completely unfazed. Frustrated, Liu Churan had no choice but to continue, “Stop with the useless chatter… Just tell me: where exactly is my Qingcheng?”
Long Qingyue just kept smiling, making Liu Churan more furious. Liu Churan gestured with her hand.
