Chapter 437: Long Qingyue’s Gift
Ye Wenxin hurriedly ordered Ghost Mother to stop, wanting a moment to think carefully about the flashback, but then she noticed something was very wrong with Ghost Mother. Her delicate face was full of anxiousness, and tears were streaming down her cheeks as she looked at Ye Wenxin.
“Why are you crying, Gui Gui?” Those of the ghost race typically had weak emotions, and they were even less adept at expressing them. Ye Wenxin was puzzled to see Ghost Mother becoming increasingly human-like, and she assumed that she had forced Ghost Mother too much, drawing out Ghost Mother’s resentment.
“What am I going to do without the Yin Pearl?” Ghost Mother cried even harder, as she had constantly relied on the Yin Pearl. But now that the Yin Pearl had left Ghost Mother’s body and chose someone else, Ghost Mother panicked.
Without the Yin Pearl, she would just be an ordinary member of the ghost race, perhaps even easier to deal with than the average ghost.
Ye Wenxin had no solution, so she could only focus on calming Ghost Mother for the time being. “Don’t worry, I’ll find a way to get the Yin Pearl out.
Although Ghost Mother was still crying, her mood had improved significantly compared to earlier. Sword Ghost sighed upon seeing this and just silently accompanied her, offering no words of comfort to Ghost Mother.
Time passed by slowly, and despite Ye Wenxin’s efforts, the Yin Pearl remained completely immovable. Exhausted and drenched in sweat, Ye Wenxin eventually decided to coax Ghost Mother back to sleep before continuing to ponder what to do next.
Sword Ghost still hadn’t left, and was watching Ye Wenxin with hesitation. Noticing this, Ye Wenxin asked, “What’s wrong, Sword Ghost?”
Sword Ghost seemed to have made a firm decision, before stammering out: “M-Master, how about you remove my Yang Pearl as well?”
Unlike Ghost Mother, who relied heavily on the Yin Pearl, Sword Ghost disliked the immense power of the Yin-Yang Pearls. After witnessing Ghost Mother’s Yin Pearl disappear, and her emotional state, Sword Ghost couldn’t help but express her own thoughts.
They were one person, yet their behaviors were entirely different. Ye Wenxin smiled slightly and gently rubbed Sword Ghost’s forehead. “It’s alright. You should go rest. I’ll find a solution.”
However, this simple action caused the Yin and Yang Pearls to resonate with each other. Sword Ghost let out a cat-like ‘meow’, seemingly dependent on this sensation. Hearing the strange sound she made, Sword Ghost blushed and quickly fled the scene.
Ye Wenxin was finally alone in the room. She lay back down, trying to recall the memories she inherited from Celestial Master Zhong, but after searching through various keywords, she found nothing useful.
“So, in the end, inheriting all these memories turned out to be useless.” Ye Wenxin sighed deeply. Nevertheless, she slowly got out of bed once more and walked out the door, where she saw everyone busy with their tasks.
The Jiangshi King had caused quite the commotion a few days ago, and Ye Wenxin stayed in the village out of concern that there were jiangshi remnants here, but she ended up being of no help at all. Everyone assumed that Ye Wenxin had been mentally and physically exhausted over the past few days, so when they saw her, they greeted her with even more warmth.
Several Secret Guards stayed behind with Ye Wenxin, helping the people of Mo Clan Village rebuild their homes and restore the village to its former state. As Ye Wenxin walked around, she saw everyone busy with their tasks, and the villagers were singing praises of the Eldest Princess’s greatness, completely unaware of the true source of the farce.
“By the way, there’s a letter for you, Miss Ye.” One of the Secret Guards approached the wandering Ye Wenxin and handed her a letter. Curious, Ye Wenxin opened it and read its contents.
[Get back here at once.]
These five big and flamboyant characters were followed by a smaller name.
[Jin Xiaoqin]
Jin Xiaoqin had apparently learned of the crisis in Mo Clan Village being resolved, and was urging Ye Wenxin to return quickly. Ye Wenxin couldn’t help but smile bitterly, as if she could already foresee the busy days and nights awaiting her upon her return.
But she knew it was time to return to reality. She was Ye Wenxin, and no longer Demon Lord Gu Qingcheng.
Ye Wenxin sought out the Mo Clan leaders to bid them farewell.
These clan leaders appeared to have aged much in such a short time. Mo Rou’s disappearance had dealt a heavy blow to the Mo Clan, and the clan leaders looked a little disappointed to hear that Ye Wenxin was leaving as well.
“Miss Ye, we have a favor to ask of you.”
“Please, go ahead.”
“If you happen to come across Mo Rou’s jiangshi along the way, could you bring back her head for us?”
Chief just said something that left Ye Wenxin quite surprised. While she was still puzzled, Chief continued to explain, “It’s a tradition in our Mo Clan that even in death, we must return to our roots. I thought that, since we haven’t been able to find my poor Little Sister Second in the past few days, she has probably become one of the jiangshi.”
Ye Wenxin still hadn’t revealed that Mo Rou was actually the Jiangshi King, but she agreed to the request and soon left the Mo Clan Stronghold. As she looked back at the fortress-like structures, she couldn’t help but feel a twinge of regret.
If Liu Churan hadn’t deceived her, Mo Rou would have remained just Mo Rou, and not become a Jiangshi King to be decapitated. Unfortunately, there were no what-ifs in this matter. Actions had consequences, and every story must come to an end…
On the road, Ye Wenxin encountered Xiao Zhang, who had also stayed behind. Xiao Zhang looked at Ye Wenxin with some surprise. “Are you leaving?”
“Yes, my master is urging me to return,” Ye Wenxin replied with a smile. Their relationship had returned to what it once was, and with Long Qingyue having erased certain parts of Xiao Zhang’s memories, Xiao Zhang seemed much more at ease.
“Alright then. I was thinking of going back with you, but you’re not a kid anymore. It’s time you travel on your own.” Although there was still a hint of worry in her eyes, Xiao Zhang didn’t insist, and simply smiled at Ye Wenxin.
The look in her eyes was filled with pride, like that of an old mother watching her daughter grow up. Ye Wenxin suspected that when Long Qingyue altered Xiao Zhang’s memories, she might have added something special. Realizing this, Ye Wenxin gathered her focus on examining Xiao Zhang’s condition. While Xiao Zhang had no luck, there was a lion-like mark on her forehead, likely from Long Qingyue’s memory alteration.
With this, Ye Wenxin’s greatest concern faded away, and she clasped her fist to the still watching Xiao Zhang. “Take care, Qianqian.”
The sudden call of her name made Xiao Zhang pause, and her hand stopped waving. She wanted to say something more, but that figure was already far away. For some reason, Xiao Zhang had a strange feeling at that moment, almost as if Ye Wenxin would never return after this departure. She wanted to shout out, but a stubborn voice in her mind held her back.
