Release the Female Lead Ch. 470

Chapter 470: Gu Qingcheng Unavailable, Free Ye Wenxin

Although this was about her, Ye Wenxin didn’t remember anything at all. She wondered how to extract information in this face. Even if she was Madam Yu’s goddaughter, she couldn’t possibly ask about Madam Yu’s personal affairs.

“What’s wrong? Is this question difficult to answer?” Madam Yu grew a bit impatient at Ye Wenxin’s silence, and her skeletal bride aura floated back and forth in the air.

Ye Wenxin couldn’t help but take a few more glances. Even though it had only been a short while, the skeleton seemed to have grown flesh, becoming more and more human-like. Its hollow eyes stared at Ye Wenxin, as if silently screaming something.

“No, you’d better ask someone else about this matter. By the time I arrived, the Demon Lord had already left.” Ye Wenxin pretended to look sheepish. The fact that she was actually the Demon Lord made talking about herself feel quite strange.

She didn’t want to answer the question, so she politely declined.

Madam Yu furrowed her delicate brows, seemingly very dissatisfied with Ye Wenxin’s response. She sighed and continued, “Forget it. I just asked out of curiosity.”

She hid the sorrow in her eyes, a look that tugged at Ye Wenxin’s heart. However, Ye Wenxin remained silent, while the tea continued to boil. She still couldn’t understand why conversations in this world always came with tea. As Madam Yu poured her another cup, she had no choice but to drink again.

It seemed Madam Yu had lost all interest in asking Ye Wenxin about the Demon Lord. She glanced at the moonlight outside the window and said, “It’s getting late. We should take our leave.”

She stepped towards the door, intending to call for the servants, but Ye Wenxin stopped her.

“Godmother, let me escort you back to your room.” Madam Yu paused in her steps, and when she turned around, she couldn’t help but cough softly. That cough finally brought a hint of color to her otherwise pale face.

It looked like, after her last treatment, Madam Yu’s illness had mutated again. However, she was carrying Qiao Ni, so Ye Wenxin didn’t have a free hand to check Madam Yu’s pulse.

“Are you alright, Godmother?” she asked with concern, feeling as though Madam Yu was still as frail as before, like a gust of wind could knock her over. Yet, it also evoked an indescribable tenderness toward her.

“No worries. It’s just that I was in too much of a hurry coming here, and caught a bit of a cold,” Madam Yu replied and waved off her concern.

She lightly pushed the door open, and revealed Green Isle Manor disciples, who had been waiting outside for some time. The moment they saw Madam Yu appear, they immediately followed behind her, serving as her guards.

Madam Yu couldn’t control her coughing, making everyone’s hearts tremble, their concern visible on their faces.

Ye Wenxin noticed the unease in their expressions. She followed behind Madam Yu to Madam Yu’s room. It was an excellent guest room, with the scent of sandalwood lingering in the air.

Ye Wenxin unconsciously took a sniff as she followed Madam Yu into the room, and placed the sleeping Qiao Ni onto the bed. Madam Yu sat at the bedside, gazing at her daughter with clear tenderness in her eyes. However, when she turned and saw Ye Wenxin still standing there, she asked in confusion, “Xin’er, aren’t you going back to rest?”

Ye Wenxin had planned to wait until everyone left before taking Madam Yu’s pulse, and found it even more suspicious that Madam Yu was trying to send her away. So she sat down and replied, “No, I’ll stay with you a bit longer, Godmother.”

Madam Yu’s expression revealed a hint of resignation, but she still glanced at the disciples standing guard. With a gentle wave of her hand, they left the room, giving them a moment of privacy.

“Xin’er. If you’re planning to check my pulse, there’s no need,” Madam Yu emphasized again. Ye Wenxin became more convinced that something was wrong. Madam Yu’s avoidance of having her pulse examined made her certain that a new issue had emerged.

“Why so, Godmother?” Ye Wenxin asked in confusion. Madam Yu’s expression turned slightly bitter, and then she said, “Recently, I did something… I likely don’t have much time left.”

Ye Wenxin found it hard to believe what she was hearing. She reached out and grabbed Madam Yu’s wrist, checking her pulse, only to feel how weak it was. But she couldn’t understand what Madam Yu had done to make her body deteriorate so severely in just a few months.

“Why has it come to this?” The knowledge stored within her mind couldn’t provide Ye Wenxin with an answer. She couldn’t help but show a look of surprise, and then saw Madam Yu sighing while glancing at Qiao Ni.

“At this point, I don’t want to hide it anymore.” Madam Yu seemed to have made up her mind, as if she had finally decided to reveal her secret.

Ye Wenxin felt a bit nervous, afraid that the story Madam Yu was about to tell would be exactly what she feared—that the dreams she’d had before would turn into reality.

“Didn’t you mention the Yin-Yang Pearls in your letter before? The truth is, I have them.” Madam Yu confessed that she had previously lied, and that she knew about the Yin-Yang Pearls.

Ye Wenxin did her best to appear surprised, though inwardly she remained calm, patiently waiting for Madam Yu to share the hidden story she had kept secret.

“I am actually barren, unable to conceive. But Green Isle Manor needs an heir, so we sought a way and found the Yin-Yang Pearls.” Madam Yu skipped over the parts Ye Wenxin was most curious about, and went straight to the point.

Ye Wenxin felt a bit frustrated, but Madam Yu continued, “That’s how Qiao Ni was born.”

Her explanation was so brief that Ye Wenxin wasn’t sure if it was due to a lack of trust, or some other reason, but Madam Yu didn’t provide more details. Ye Wenxin had hoped to learn the full story, only to have Madam Yu brush it off by understating things.

However, Ye Wenxin couldn’t show her impatience as she asked, “So where are the Yin-Yang Pearls now?”

At the same time, her mind was filled with even more questions. Madam Yu, with a thoughtful expression, continued, “I don’t know either. When I woke up, I already conceived Qiao Ni. After that, the Yin energy that used to torment me every night only got worse.”

Perhaps she had bottled it all up for so long, and just wanted to confide in Ye Wenxin. Madam Yu seemed bewildered, yet there was no desire to live on her face.

“Then why has your body deteriorated so much?” Ye Wenxin asked again.

Madam Yu looked at Qiao Ni and sighed. “Qiao Ni has also started showing signs of this Yin energy. I was terrified, so I tried to absorb it from her while she was sleeping. The more I absorbed, the worse my condition became, and that’s how I ended up like this.”
