Release the Female Lead Ch. 471

Chapter 471: Doesn’t Resemble Me At All

Madam Yu’s expression was filled with helplessness. It was hard enough that she had to endure it, but Qiao Ni was also showing symptoms of Mystic Yin Physique. This made Madam Yu deeply worried that Qiao Ni might suffer the same tragic fate as she had.

She had come this time not only to bid a final farewell to the Demon Lord, but also to inform Ye Wenxin.

“If I’m no longer here in the future, please take care of Ni Ni for me,” Madam Yu said, her voice full of resignation, and the pain she had been enduring became even more apparent on her face. This beautiful wife had been bearing far too many burdens at her age.

Ye Wenxin chose to remain silent. She was only about thirty percent confident in treating Madam Yu’s current condition. Although the Soul Suppressing Eighteen Needles were incredibly powerful, they couldn’t completely control the cause of an illness.

Ye Wenxin quickly figured that the Yin Pearl had likely transferred from Madam Yu’s body to Qiao Ni’s, and thus causing this condition. If the Yin Pearl was truly this harmful to humans, Ye Wenxin herself might face the same fate. With so much Yin energy accumulating within her, she might eventually become like the walking corpse that the Demon Lord had been.

Just the thought of it sent a shiver down Ye Wenxin’s spine.

“What’s wrong? You don’t want to?” Madam Yu saw Ye Wenxin tremble, and the pained expression on her face. She thought she had been too demanding, and looked at Ye Wenxin with concern.

Ye Wenxin quickly shook her head. “No, your concerns are mine too, Godmother. I just thought about how easily people can die, and it’s terrifying.”

Madam Yu was momentarily stunned, then gently smiled, as if she had long come to terms with death. “That’s what it means to be mortal. If I had the aptitude for cultivation, I wouldn’t have ended up like this. But alas, fate isn’t in my hands.”

She sighed, and from their previous interactions, she had come to understand Ye Wenxin’s character, which was why she felt comfortable entrusting Qiao Ni to her completely. Unfortunately, she feared that Qiao Ni would suffer the same fate as her. Still, Madam Yu hoped that at the very least, in the time Qiao Ni had left in this world, she could live happily.

“That may not be the case. Try not to be too pessimistic, Godmother. Recently, I’ve found a big brother who might be able to help you with your health,” Ye Wenxin said, recalling Ye Tian.

The dishes from Nirvana Pavilion were exceptional, and could even replace medicine. Although she wasn’t sure if they could dispel Yin energy, Ye Wenxin didn’t want to say the word ‘give up’ until the very last moment, and she hoped Madam Yu wouldn’t give up so easily.

She took Madam Yu’s hand, and wished Madam Yu would go with her to see Ye Tian. However, Madam Yu simply shook her head gently and said, “I’ve heard that you’ve acknowledged the Pavilion Master as your big brother. He’s not a bad person and is well-known in the Martial World, which indeed suits your needs for building up the Cozy Gang. But even so, I can’t keep relying on others.”

Ye Wenxin sensed a hint of despair in Madam Yu’s tone. Although her condition was indeed very dangerous, there were no absolutes in life, and there would always be a solution. So, she encouraged, “Godmother, just listen to my advice and go check it out. Even if I’m just introducing you, it’s better than waiting to die like this.”

Ye Wenxin felt an indescribable emotion, especially since she shared a bond with Madam Yu. Otherwise, Madam Yu’s death in a few years wouldn’t have affected her at all. But after the Yin Pearl reminded her the memory of their past, Ye Wenxin felt compelled to try.

“Well… alright,” Madam Yu said hesitantly. After looking into Ye Wenxin’s eyes, her heart softened, and she ultimately agreed. However, since it was already late at night, Madam Yu thought it would be inappropriate to disturb Ye Tian’s rest, so she added, “Then tomorrow we’ll pay Pavilion Master Ye a visit and see if he has any solutions.”

Ye Wenxin finally breathed a sigh of relief. Just as she was about to take her leave, she heard Qiao Ni’s voice.

“Sister Wenxin, are you leaving? It would be so nice if you slept over.” Qiao Ni still looked drowsy, and it was unclear whether she had just woken up or had been pretending to sleep to eavesdrop on their conversation.

Ye Wenxin had been so focused on Madam Yu that she hadn’t noticed Qiao Ni until now. When Qiao Ni’s head suddenly popped up, she couldn’t help but smile wryly. “No way, this bed isn’t that big. If I sleep here, you’ll get squished like a meat sandwich (roujiamo)1.”

Qiao Ni pouted. “But Sister, you’ll just go back to sleep anyway. Why not just stay here for the night? We haven’t seen each other in a long time. Don’t you miss me?”

Qiao Ni tugged at Ye Wenxin, her tone dripping with obvious playfulness. There was no trace of her in the girl’s shamelessness, Ye Wenxin silently tried to convince herself. However, she still looked at Madam Yu to gauge her thoughts.

Madam Yu gave a nod. Considering their current status, she didn’t mind sharing a bed with Ye Wenxin. Thus, she naturally began to take off her outer robe. She seemed accustomed to being waited on, but since Ye Wenxin was present, and she had sent everyone else away, she hadn’t yet adjusted that habit.

Ye Wenxin was momentarily stunned, thinking that Madam Yu needed her assistance. She obediently walked over and helped her take off her outer robe. Madam Yu only just realized what was happening, and looked at Ye Wenxin a bit embarrassedly. However, Ye Wenxin wasn’t showing any suspicious expressions, so she allowed her to remove the garment.

Ye Wenxin was even willing to help with washing her face and feet, but Madam Yu didn’t give her that chance.

“Xin’er, even though you’re not my biological daughter, I truly regard you as one. It’s better to let the servants handle these matters,” Madam Yu said after the attendant had left.

Since Madam Yu knew she would soon depart from this world, she decided to share her hard-earned estate with her goddaughter. On one hand, Ye Wenxin’s connection to the Green Isle Manor offered protection; on the other hand, it would allow Qiao Ni to live more easily for a few years.

Ye Wenxin didn’t feel any sense of hierarchy, especially after Long Qingyue had lost mobility in her legs. Ye Wenxin had even taken care of her for several months, until Long Qingyue emerged from that dark period. Ironically, it was Long Qingyue who sought Ye Wenxin out upon becoming crippled, which was how Ye Wenxin found out about it.

The more she thought about it, the more guilt grew within Ye Wenxin. Once the situation in Yangzhou City was resolved, she would make sure to properly take care of Jin Xiaoqin, and then seek out Long Qingyue to fulfill their promise. She wanted to avoid having her daring best friend publicly announce their marriage.

It wouldn’t just affect Demon Lord Gu Qincheng’s image. If Liu Churan found out, Ye Wenxin couldn’t imagine what kind of chaos these two women, who were already rivals, might create.
