Release the Female Lead Ch. 472

Chapter 472: Not Enough Kisses

“Washing my godmother’s feet isn’t a disrespectful thing. Besides, since you’re weak, and I’m your daughter, I should take good care of you,” Ye Wenxin immediately replied, and as if deeply moved by her words, Madam Yu merely smiled.

Meanwhile, Qiao Ni was eagerly wiggling her little feet, looking forward to Ye Wenxin’s service as well. Although Ye Wenxin didn’t mind, she worried that Qiao Ni might become addicted to it, and chose to ignore her.

Qiao Ni began to fuss again, but in the end, Ye Wenxin managed to calm her down, and she quickly drifted back to sleep. Madam Yu fondly kissed Qiao Ni’s forehead, and then noticed Ye Wenxin’s longing gaze.

“Do you want one too?” Madam Yu joked. Although Ye Wenxin couldn’t resolve her issues this time, her thoughtfulness still brought some happiness to Madam Yu. As soon as she said it, though, Madam Yu felt a twinge of regret. She couldn’t help feeling that no other godparent and godchild pair had a story as peculiar as theirs.

“May I?” Ye Wenxin’s eyes lit up at the prospect. She had never experienced true maternal love, whether in this world or on Earth. Her distrust of emotions likely stemmed from her time on Earth. It made it difficult for her to open her heart and develop feelings for anyone.

However, she greatly appreciated the warmth of female companionship, especially from Madam Yu, who provided a strong sense of security that was hard to resist.

Perhaps it was this embracing quality that ultimately led Madam Yu to sacrifice herself for the sake of Demon Lord Gu Qingcheng.

“Then lean your head over.” Madam Yu didn’t protest and beckoned Ye Wenxin, who was lying there. She still seemed a bit nervous, especially with Qiao Ni sleeping in between them, making the situation all the more delicate.

Ye Wenxin nodded compliantly. She wanted to lean in and offer her cheek, but it seemed Madam Yu had intended to kiss her forehead, and those lips nearly kissed Ye Wenxin’s nose.

Madam Yu read Ye Wenxin’s intention and aimed for her cheek, while Ye Wenxin prepared to meet her for a forehead kiss, but unexpectedly, Madam Yu almost kissed her eyelid.

The two fell silent, and ultimately, Madam Yu decisively planted a kiss on Ye Wenxin’s forehead and then wished her goodnight. Ye Wenxin hadn’t yet savored the feeling of that kiss when Madam Yu turned to the other side, seemingly ready to sleep.

Feeling a bit sulky, Ye Wenxin suddenly noticed Qiao Ni open her eyes and wildly gesture toward her own lips. Even in front of Madam Yu, Qiao Ni remained so unabashed.

Every time she saw this, Ye Wenxin would dismiss the thought that Qiao Ni was her and Madam Yu’s child. No matter how she looked at it, there was no way such a quirky little girl would be her daughter.

“Godmother, it looks like Qiao Ni hasn’t had enough kisses.” Ye Wenxin quickly deflected, and then saw Qiao Ni’s face fall. She looked reluctant, but obediently closed her eyes, feigning sleep again.

Madam Yu sensed the unusual interaction between Ye Wenxin and Qiao Ni, and tiredly turned her attention to them.

While Qiao Ni’s petite body was lying flat on the bed, the other two were lying on their sides, facing Qiao Ni. If they weren’t looking at her, they would see each other’s faces. In that moment, the three of them looked more and more like a little family.

“Sleep,” Madam Yu said softly. Ye Wenxin nodded and closed her eyes. However, Madam Yu’s gaze was too intense for her to truly fall asleep, so she pretended to, when she felt a certain puppy’s bold movement.

Qiao Ni was growing more skilled at her antics, making Ye Wenxin think that if this continued, Qiao Ni would grow up to be a complete Teddy. Ye Wenxin really wanted to open her eyes to stop Qiao Ni, when she heard Madam Yu’s voice.

“Ni Ni, you go sleep near the wall,” Madam Yu whispered authoritatively to Qiao Ni. Qiao Ni was most afraid of her gentle mother, so even though she was unwilling, she still changed places with Madam Yu. After that, she added uneasily, “Mother, you can’t make a move on your goddaughter.”

Madam Yu found the warning amusing. “Why would I do that? I’m not you.” She turned to Qiao Ni, humming a tune to lull her to sleep.

The hypnotic melody quickly put her to sleep, while Ye Wenxin also became drowsy as she listened. Her arms instinctively reached out in a hugging gesture, as if it were a habitual bodily response she had developed at some point.

The gesture stunned both Madam Yu and Ye Wenxin herself, but Madam Yu didn’t resist. She just gently stroked Ye Wenxin’s head and said, “Looks like you’ve been quite lonely too.”

She wasn’t sure what kind of loneliness Madam Yu was referring to, but it made Ye Wenxin feel guilty, and she didn’t dare respond. So, she simply closed her eyes, feeling the softness and warmth of two buns.

She felt even more nostalgia as Madam Yu gently patted her back. As if there were magic in the sound, it quickly lulled Ye Wenxin to sleep.

In a drowsy haze, Ye Wenxin thought she heard Madam Yu murmuring something wistfully along the lines of “So similar…” Ye Wenxin was too tired to respond, let alone ask what she meant. She drifted off into a peaceful sleep, enveloped in that gentle warmth, and eventually saw a sweet dream.

In this dream, there was no wrestling, only a small boat sailing smoothly across a lake, swaying gently…

When Ye Wenxin opened her eyes the next morning, the new day had already arrived. In the morning light, Madam Yu was sitting nearby, freshening up. Qiao Ni was also awake, dutifully helping Madam Yu fix her hair.

The sunlight reflected off Madam Yu’s smooth strands, so beautiful that Ye Wenxin felt an urge to cradle a lock in her hands, and gently kiss it. She groggily got up and, for some reason, suddenly wanted to embrace that frail figure, to plant a soft kiss on Madam Yu’s face.

Perhaps because that slender back appeared so lonely, it invoked a sense of longing in her. But Ye Wenxin didn’t act on it, while Madam Yu finished her grooming and started tending to Qiao Ni’s hair.

They seemed to have long grown accustomed to this routine of supporting each other. The scene felt incomplete without either Madam Yu or Qiao Ni. When Ye Wenxin thought about the future where Qiao Ni would have to face the world alone, it reminded her of herself.

Ye Wenxin wanted to change things, but with everything tangled up together, it confused her. Where should she start? How could she resolve these matters in a way that would bring closure to everyone involved?

So, when Qiao Ni went out to play at noon, Ye Wenxin decided to talk with Madam Yu. She wanted to know if, aside from Qiao Ni, there were any other wishes Madam Yu had yet to fulfill.
