Chapter 487: I Have a Secret that Concerns You

“Gu Qingcheng” only glanced briefly before quickly looking away. Madam Yu had no intention of seducing anyone, and “Gu Qingcheng” certainly didn’t have any improper thoughts toward her foster daughter’s elder sister—or rather, Ye Wenxin’s godmother.

“Gu Qingcheng” asked, “Is there any other wish you have, Madam? If you wish for someone’s death, this lord could help with that.” After all, “Gu Qingcheng”, at her core, was still the bloodthirsty demoness. So, she inquired about Madam Yu’s desires while staying true to “Gu Qingcheng’s” nature.

Even if it meant killing someone, “Gu Qingcheng” would agree without hesitation, out of respect for the time they had known each other. As for whether Madam Yu’s illness could be cured, “Gu Qingcheng” was still a little unsure. There were no recorded cases in the Soul Suppressing Eighteen Needles’ manual.

The world was vast—so vast that even Celestial Master Zhong’s extensive knowledge was still not enough. Yet, the world also seemed small. Seeing Madam Yu in her current state gave “Gu Qingcheng” a sense of unease.

She was supposedly the best in the world, but even the best couldn’t storm the depths of hell to break someone free, nor could she defy the heavens. It seemed that was where the limits of this realm lay.

“Gu Qingcheng” hated this feeling, which was why she had desperately rewritten her fate. If she managed to ascend, her first wish would be to slay a god. Of course, even then, she figured Fairy Fengya would still find a way to suppress her.

“Gu Qingcheng” suddenly stood up, a new possibility flashing through her mind. If Madam Yu spent more time with Fairy Fengya, would she perhaps absorb some of the phoenix’s luck, and be reborn like a phoenix rising from the ashes?

“Demon Lord, what’s wrong?”

“Gu Qingcheng’s” abrupt movement had startled Madam Yu, making her heart tremble violently in response. Too much had happened today, and despite Ghost Mother having drawn away much of the Yin energy to help regulate Madam Yu’s body, it only treated the symptoms, not the root cause. The scare worsened Madam Yu’s discomfort, and she clutched her chest in pain. Yet, she covered her mouth, unwilling to make a sound.

“Madam, are you alright?”

“Gu Qingcheng” looked at Madam Yu and saw her face had gone deathly pale, as if she were in great pain. When she touched her, Madam Yu’s hands and feet were ice cold, as though a chill had invaded them. It was so cold, that even “Gu Qingcheng” couldn’t help but shiver.

She could sense the surge of Yin energy.

Even though she seemed to be freezing, she still wanted to get off the bed, determined not to cause more trouble for Qiao Ni in her final moments.

“Demon Lord… please, take me out of this room.” Madam Yu’s voice faltered, her speech slow and labored, as she made her plea.

“Gu Qingcheng” frowned slightly, figured that Qiao Ni was in no position to help, and lifted Madam Yu into her arms. She quietly instructed the furballs to watch over Qiao Ni, then carried Madam Yu to an empty guest room next door.

After “Gu Qingcheng” broke the lock without a second thought, she laid Madam Yu down. Finally, Madam Yu could no longer suppress a quiet moan. The expression on her face made even “Gu Qingcheng”, who was merely watching, feel the intensity of her suffering.

“What kind of illness is this?”

Madam Yu simply shook her head. “It’s not an illness, just Yin energy… mphh…” She kept clutching the spot over her heart, the excruciating pain tormenting her to the point where she seemed unable to think, only letting out instinctual cries of agony.

“Gu Qingcheng” hastily held her up, checking her pulse to assess the situation, but she could feel that even Madam Yu’s blood vessels were starting to turn cold. The Yin energy was running rampant through her organs, and her divine sense could even detect its frenzied flow.

What was even more terrifying, was that the Yin energy had countours of human faces, as if souls who died unjustly had lingered within its gaps. “Gu Qingcheng” immediately realized that this must be the same Yin energy Madam Yu had absorbed from her all those years ago, tenacious and immensely harmful. Coupled with the fact that Qiao Ni was also showing signs of having Mystic Yin Physique, the Yin energy within Madam Yu had been growing more and more, and now it was close to destroying her body completely.

Madam Yu’s face looked as though it had suffered frostbite, turning a ghastly white. It seemed as if she was on the verge of dying in this state, but this wasn’t the first time “Gu Qingcheng” had witnessed this scene of Madam Yu slowly dying in front of her.

“Don’t look… please don’t look at me like this.” All women pursued beauty, and for someone like Madam Yu, her beauty standards were meticulous. She especially didn’t want “Gu Qingcheng” to see her current terrible appearance.

“Gu Qingcheng” was momentarily stunned. When she was about to take a half-step back, she felt it would be unkind to do so. Instead, she gently held Madam Yu’s hand.

“Madam, do you have any final wishes? If I can, I will do my best to fulfill them.”

As “Gu Qingcheng” sensed Madam Yu’s life force growing weaker with each passing moment, she asked again. At this point, even if the creator of the Soul-Suppressing Eighteen Needles appeared, they wouldn’t be able to save her. Because of this, “Gu Qingcheng” chose a different approach, which was to wait for Madam Yu to give her final instructions.

It was only in the face of death, that Madam Yu could confide in “Gu Qingcheng” things she would never have spoken of under normal circumstances.

“Qingcheng, will you hold me one last time?”

Madam Yu’s breathing grew more labored, yet she still clung tightly to “Gu Qingcheng’s” sleeve.

Fate had not intended for her to meet this person, but from the moment she did, it had changed her life forever. She had searched for her for what felt like an eternity, and at this final moment, did she see the one she had longed for day and night. It was the same face, the same personality, yet in the Demon Lord’s memories, she no longer existed. (TL: T T)

“Gu Qingcheng” was momentarily taken aback, but gently held the fragile, delicate Madam Yu in her arms, feeling just how cold and weak she had become. Despite her draining strength, Madam Yu managed a smile, as if the curtains were finally drawing close over her pursuit that had lasted for more than thirty years.

“If I die, have Qiao Ni bury me in the garden at Green Isle Manor; I love the flowers there.”

“If I die, tell Ye Wenxin, that if she can’t find a good Dao companion in the future, she should just stay with Ni Ni. You know, the two of you really are alike…”

Madam Yu spoke with a calmness that only came with the acceptance of death. At last, as she gently touched that face, her eyes were filled with an unmistakable longing.

“I have a secret that concerns you, but I don’t want to tell you. Qingcheng, will you remember me like this for the rest of your life?” asked Madam Yu.

“Gu Qingcheng” said nothing. She opened her mouth, unsure of how to tell Madam Yu that she had already guessed the truth behind that secret.

The sorrowful atmosphere lingered, but suddenly, a voice echoed in her mind.
