Release the Female Lead Ch. 498

Chapter 498: Just In Time

In the past, Gu Qingcheng wouldn’t hesitate to wipe out anyone who spoke to her like that, along with their entire clan. But she was no longer Gu Qingcheng. She had stepped down from the pedestal and became Ye Wenxin.

Seeing that Ghost Mother had refused again, Gu Qingcheng smiled brightly. “Then, we won’t meet again.”

“Master, you’re truly heartless.” Ghost Mother couldn’t help but curse, but instinctively covered her belly. It seemed she was still hiding something she didn’t want Gu Qingcheng to discover.

However, Gu Qingcheng’s attention was entirely on Fairy Fengya, so she didn’t notice. As she watched Fairy Fengya sleeping restlessly, Gu Qingcheng said, “You are unfeeling, and I am ruthless. But poor Sword Ghost, doing the work of two ghosts.”

There was a deeper meaning behind Gu Qingcheng’s words that left Ghost Mother flustered and exasperated. She was about to hurl insults at her, but Gu Qingcheng had already vanished.

With a sigh, Ghost Mother floated back to Liu Churan’s side and resumed watching over the pitiful girl.

……

It was late at night when Liu Churan finally regained some clarity. She shivered, then sat up abruptly, unsurprised by the mess around her.

The confusion in her eyes quickly shifted as she brushed her bangs aside. Liu Churan looked toward Ghost Mother, asking, “Did someone come by earlier?”

An unusual atmosphere inundated the air, and there was even a change in the room’s furniture arrangement. Liu Churan immediately sensed something was off, but couldn’t understand why nothing had happened to her.

Ghost Mother appeared conflicted, but in the end, she told Liu Churan that Gu Qingcheng had been there.

Liu Churan froze and then burst into wild laughter. Amidst her laughter, she suddenly remembered something. Eagerly, Liu Churan pressed for more details.

Liu Churan had become manic. Even the smallest tidbit brought joy to her eyes, just like a lovesick teen. Yet beneath that, lay a madness that was plain to see.

“Ah Ran, stop this. She’s not right for you.” With the way Liu Churan was acting, Ghost Mother couldn’t help but advise her, but her words didn’t reach Liu Churan.

Instead, Liu Churan reached out to touch Ghost Mother’s belly, asking her, “Are the new Yin-Yang Pearls still intact?”

As Liu Churan was no longer listening to anything else she said, Ghost Mother could only give a slight nod. “They’re about to come out, but I don’t know what the new Yin-Yang Pearls will be like.”

She recalled that Ye Wenxin was still the reason behind the creation of these Yin-Yang Pearls.

If it weren’t for her carelessness, Ghost Mother wouldn’t have lost her original Yin Pearl. However, losing the Yin Pearl turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as it allowed her to discover the birth of new Yin-Yang Pearls within her.

Liu Churan no longer cared about that. She was still preoccupied with plotting how to bring Gu Qingcheng back home.

Ghost Mother regretted everything. Liu Churan was no longer the pure girl devoted to her beloved. And, Ghost Mother was no longer someone who would sacrifice herself for her friends. However, the entanglements between them had grown so complex, and endless.

Liu Churan finally finished formulating her plan. She looked toward Ghost Mother, her gaze carrying a certain sternness. Although it wasn’t as intense as Gu Qingcheng’s scrutinizing glance, it was still enough to intimidate Ghost Mother.

“Ah Ran, why are you looking at me like that?” Liu Churan’s increasingly manic state suddenly gave Ghost Mother a bad feeling.

Liu Churan smiled faintly but still asked, “Why do I get the feeling that you’re quite familiar with my Qingcheng? Isn’t your master supposed to be Ye Wenxin?”

Ghost Mother recalled her recent days with Liu Churan. She hadn’t accidentally revealed that Ye Wenxin was Gu Qingcheng. Facing Liu Churan’s suspicion, Ghost Mother also smiled.

“Master often talks about the Demon Lord, so I know a bit about her.”

A trace of disgust appeared on Liu Churan’s face upon the mention of Ye Wenxin. She suddenly thought of how completely different Ye Wenxin was from Gu Qingcheng. Aside from a superficial similarity, Ye Wenxin seemed to lack any of the Demon Lord’s qualities.

Liu Churan gave a cold snort. “If I meet Ye Wenxin again, I’ll be sure to give her a proper warning… In this realm, only I am worthy of Qingcheng.”

The woman was brimming with enthusiasm and confidence, but Ghost Mother was deeply worried that Liu Churan would fall apart once she learned the truth. The Gu Qingcheng she once knew had already become a skirt chaser steeped in various affairs. Even Ghost Mother had…

As she thought about this, the place holding the Yin-Yang Pearls grew blazing hot, as if reflecting her inner turmoil. Ghost Mother could even feel someone stroking her head.

Sword Ghost was sending her telepathic messages again, relaying information from Ye Wenxin’s side.

Sword Ghost: Master wants to know—Is Liu Churan up to something again?

Ghost Mother: Go away, go away. I dumped her already.

A few moments after saying that, Ghost Mother nearly stumbled to the floor. A searing sensation suddenly erupted across her back, as if telling her it was a punishment from Ye Wenxin.

This new feeling, completely different from before, brought Ghost Mother close to tears. She thought she had escaped Ye Wenxin’s wicked clutches, only to realize it was the beginning of a new round of torment.

Sword Ghost: M-Master says, “If you don’t behave, I’ll drip ghost wax on you every day.”

Ghost Mother trembled at the sound of this. As a ghost, she was all too familiar with the excruciating pain ghost wax brought. She never imagined Ye Wenxin had secretly learned how to make it. If given enough time, and Ghost Mother obtained the Yin-Yang Twin Pearls, she still wouldn’t be her master’s match.

But if she let Liu Churan kill Ye Wenxin now, Ghost Mother was terrified that Ye Wenxin would disclose their affair in a panic. Given Liu Churan’s unstable personality, she would surely kill Ghost Mother first.

Ghost Mother: She was thinking about how to bring Gu Qingcheng back home.

Ghost Mother had no choice but to be honest and remind Ye Wenxin to be careful. However, she soon felt the telepathic connection cut off from the other side.

This response only fueled Ghost Mother’s anger. She suddenly realized that Ye Wenxin had intentionally left her behind.

After all, as a mere ghost, she had no way to resist if Ye Wenxin forcibly took her away. This feeling of abandonment made Ghost Mother feel even worse.

She couldn’t help reopening the telepathic link.

The scene shifted to where Ye Wenxin was. She had reverted to her somewhat plain appearance. Ghost Mother traded places with Sword Ghost, intending to bite Ye Wenxin fiercely. However, Ye Wenxin was fully awake and kept Ghost Mother back with one hand.

“You’re here?”

Ghost Mother immediately tried to deflect, “I’m Ri Ri!”

“Just in time; I was waiting for Ri Ri.”

Ye Wenxin’s eyes darkened evilly. Ghost Mother, unable to undo the possession, lost her defenses again.

Meanwhile, Sword Ghost’s consciousness transferred to Ghost Mother’s body, where Liu Churan’s insanity was seared into her brain.
