Chapter 500: Emotionless Fengya
Fairy Fengya’s footsteps halted. She felt a little reluctant to continue after hearing that Ye Wenxin treated her as a mere tool.
“Beat up a small fry, and I’ll give you a sip of spirit wine. Beat up a big boss, and you’ll get a whole bottle. How about that? Pretty good deal, right?”
Ye Wenxin thought of using her stash of spirit wine as leverage. Although having Fairy Fengya with her was like bringing along a robot, it didn’t stop Ye Wenxin from putting her to good use.
“What does ‘baosi1‘ mean?”
Fairy Fengya was still diligently learning the terms Ye Wenxin had mentioned. Ye Wenxin couldn’t help but glance at her face again. She noticed a subtle change, though she couldn’t quite describe it. However, it seemed Fairy Fengya was beginning to think more like a human.
“It refers to those tough ones you can’t knock out in one go. That’s what we call a boss.”
Fairy Fengya nodded slightly and continued following Ye Wenxin. Her flowing white robes made her incredibly eye-catching, drawing the attention of everyone around them. It was clear that no one knew where such a beautiful fairy had come from.
As expected, people kept trying to flirt with her. Fairy Fengya, as usual, beat up any roadblocks and sent them running. If anyone dared to attack her, she would instantly erase their very existence without batting an eye.
This situation reminded Ye Wenxin of her first disciple, who had met a tragic end. That disciple had once tried to force Fairy Fengya into marriage, only to be killed with a single palm strike. Now, watching Fairy Fengya act like a grim reaper, Ye Wenxin began to regret bringing her along.
“Maybe… you should go back after all?” Ye Wenxin’s face showed obvious disdain.
While having Fairy Fengya around made her feel safe, the woman was too conspicuous. She was supposed to be on a low-profile journey to the academy. But now, because of Fairy Fengya, the road had become unnecessarily long.
Fairy Fengya paused, but then she turned and left.
Ye Wenxin breathed a sigh of relief. However, within just a few seconds, a young master clad in white appeared.
Mysterious wind blew about him, and his face bore some resemblance to Fairy Fengya. Anyone who looked at him blushed and felt their heart race.
Meanwhile, Ye Wenxin stared with shock. The young master was clearly none other than Fairy Fengya. It seemed she had realized that wearing women’s clothing was inconvenient, so she switched to men’s attire.
But despite the change, her transformation had no effect. The frenzy of admirers simply shifted from men to women. The women, though slightly more reserved, gazed tenderly at Fairy Fengya. They appeared eager to tie her up and have her bear them a dozen children.
Fairy Fengya ignored them, but Ye Wenxin—still dressed like a woman—had now become the enemy of all the women around. This caused quite a bit of commotion, and a day went by.
They had meant to shop quickly in this small town, yet wasted so much time.
“Young master, if you would let me…”
Whether it was an eighty-year-old granny or a ten-year-old girl, none could resist Fairy Fengya’s charm. It reminded Ye Wenxin of how Long Qingyue, disguised as a man, had won over the Jiangshi King’s heart.
Ye Wenxin couldn’t help but wonder how many more people would fall for Fairy Fengya. Exasperated, she finally forced Fairy Fengya to change back, and made her wear plain black clothes instead. She even bought her a few masks from a nearby stall.
Fairy Fengya offered no resistance, but was confused by Ye Wenxin’s fussing. “I could just make myself look ordinary.”
Ye Wenxin couldn’t help but roll her eyes. “If we take your beauty away, will you have anything left?”
Fairy Fengya became even more perplexed. She tried to come up with a counter, but then realized that besides her face, she had no unique qualities.
“Exactly. You only have your looks, and I really don’t want to give up on your last asset. This way, when I want to see your face, I can just take off your mask. Isn’t that convenient?”
Ye Wenxin made things up with a completely straight face. She didn’t want to waste any more time on such senseless matters.
There were all kinds of people in the Martial World, and those who wore masks were not uncommon. No one would care if Fairy Fengya put one on. If Ye Wenxin had asked her to find someone and copy their appearance, who knows how much more time would have been wasted in the process.
Somehow, even though Ye Wenxin was obviously lying, Fairy Fengya just nodded without trouble. Seeing that Fairy Fengya was determined to follow her, Ye Wenxin gave up trying to deal with her.
They emerged from the alley. With Fairy Fengya’s face covered and her aura consciously restrained, their shopping trip finally quieted down.
Fairy Fengya seemed very curious about everything around her. It was the same inquisitive nature she had shown during the Immortal Sect Grand Tournament.
Everything was new to her, as if she had never experienced the mundane world.
“Xiao Fengfeng, have you really managed to survive like this all your life?”
Ye Wenxin thought of Fairy Fengya’s aunt, Abbess Jiunan. Fairy Fengya was practically royalty by association.
Even if she had spent most of her time secluded in a palace, she couldn’t be this ignorant of the outside world. But Fairy Fengya’s behavior made it seem like she had never set foot in the mortal realm.
Ye Wenxin genuinely wondered how she had made it this far in life.
“What do you mean?”
While Fairy Fengya was confused, in her mind, Great-Grandma angrily clarified.
Great-Grandma: She’s saying that how you’ve survived until now is nothing short of a miracle.
Fairy Fengya blinked. An image flashed in her mind, causing a slight waver in her heart. But that feeling quickly passed. She looked at Ye Wenxin and gave a simple explanation. “I’ve always lived deep in the mountains.”
When Ye Wenxin heard this familiar novel backstory, she nodded in acknowledgment. But something still didn’t add up.
Why had Fairy Fengya’s aunt suddenly appeared in her life? What about her family, and how had her life developed until now?
Ye Wenxin grew more curious about Fairy Fengya, which sparked a hint of concern. She feared she would end up like those who accidentally fell for the seemingly emotionless woman.
The thought made her a little anxious, but her curiosity about Fairy Fengya’s story was too strong. She couldn’t help but continue asking about her life in the mountains.
“They said I was a bringer of misfortune, so they abandoned me in the mountains.”
Fairy Fengya revealed details of her childhood without hesitation.
The day she was born, the heavens and earth shifted. Storms raged, earthquakes and tsunamis struck in quick succession. Even Fairy Fengya’s mother died right after giving birth to her.
This strange and ominous series of events only deepened Ye Wenxin’s belief. Fairy Fengya was not only the most powerful, but also the most tragic female lead she’d ever encountered.
But how, she wondered, had Fairy Fengya survived with only a mortal body?
As if reading her thoughts, Fairy Fengya continued her story.
