Chapter 506: Daily Life with Xiao Fengfeng 1
It was already afternoon once they had freshened up. Ye Wenxin hurriedly led Fairy Fengya back to Liu City. Since their previous pass hadn’t expired yet, it was relatively effortless to enter the city. Strangely, though, everyone was staring at the shrunken Fairy Fengya.
Fairy Fengya still wore a blank expression, obediently letting Ye Wenxin hold her hand. Dressed in a pink outfit, she looked even more pure and adorable. If there was any flaw in her appearance, it was that her face showed no emotion. People’s gazes lingered on her face and body. Basically, not much had changed compared to her original form.
“Mommy bought you something tasty.”
“Xiao Fengfeng is so well-behaved. As expected of my child.”
Ye Wenxin was having a great time playing with small Fairy Fengya. The latter didn’t mind the fuss and accepted nearly everything without resistance.
As night fell, the crowd around them had thinned noticeably. Dark clouds covered the moon, lending a creepy vibe to the atmosphere. It felt as if dark creatures were about to appear. Ye Wenxin couldn’t fight in her current state and didn’t want to alert any lurking dangers. So she decided to head back to the inn where they were staying.
The innkeeper kept praising Fairy Fengya for her beauty and intelligence. Ye Wenxin responded with a smile while discreetly pulling Fairy away, preventing anyone from touching her. Fairy Fengya was her pawn and no one else’s. Ye Wenxin would feel uncomfortable if others were to taint her.
Noticing Ye Wenxin’s protective attitude, the innkeeper’s face showed some concern. “Madam, are you sure about enrolling the child in Cosmos Academy?”
He had a kind face. From his facial features to his overall temperament, he appeared honest. The man seemed to genuinely like Fairy Fengya. However, whether he had any underlying motives wasn’t Ye Wenxin’s concern.
She hugged Fairy Fengya close to her chest and continued to smile. “Yes, that’s precisely why I came to Liu City.”
Her voice was neither loud nor soft, the perfect volume for the people around to hear. Everyone paused for a moment, showing some aversion to Cosmos Academy. The innkeeper’s brows furrowed deeply with apparent concern for Fairy Fengya.
“Madam, you’re an outsider, so you may not know this. There’s been something strange going on at Cosmos Academy lately.”
The innkeeper spoke in a hushed tone, fearing that others might overhear. Those nearby, however, pretended not to listen. It looked like a small number still had their wits about them. Ye Wenxin found the situation increasingly intriguing. But she kept feigning ignorance and curiously pressed the innkeeper for more details.
The innkeeper began to recount the recent odd occurrences. Cosmos Academy students had been disappearing one after another and their fates remained unknown. Meanwhile, the academy’s teachers strongly recruited new students, indifferent to the missing students’ lives.
The innkeeper’s eyes reddened as he finished. When Ye Wenxin asked, he revealed that his daughter had been studying at Cosmos Academy. She had been missing for three or four months. He had protested to the academy for a long time only to get beaten and kicked out. They even crippled one of his legs.
The people present were all regular patrons of the inn. Many were somewhat aware of the innkeeper’s ordeal. As they listened to his recounting, their expressions varied. But they were noticeably different from the apathetic crowd outside.
The fact that this inn didn’t primarily serve raw meat was mainly why Ye Wenxin chose to stay there. She hadn’t expected to encounter a few lucid individuals. She quietly listened to the innkeeper’s story until night fully set in. Only then did she head to her room.
Fairy Fengya shared a room with Ye Wenxin. She had already reverted to her original form just as Ye Wenxin stripped her outer robe. Fairy Fengya’s clothes now fit more snugly, exuding a kind of charm that was hard to describe. However, Fairy Fengya swiftly changed her attire, erasing that allure. Bored, Ye Wenxin retrieved a bottle of spirit wine from her bag of folding. It was an advance payment for Fairy Fengya’s recent service as her pawn.
Fairy Fengya gladly accepted it. But instead of drinking right away, she took the rare step of freshening up first.
Cultivators inherently possessed purification abilities. They didn’t need to put much care in bathing and grooming. Fairy Fengya, in particular, was lazy in such matters. It was rare that she chose to wash up, surprising Ye Wenxin.
“Did you touch something dirty today?” Ye Wenxin couldn’t help but ask.
Fairy Fengya had set aside her outer garment. It revealed her slender and beautiful figure unreservedly. Her girdle accentuated her exquisite curves and made her a pleasure to behold. Ye Wenxin couldn’t take her eyes off her.
Fairy Fengya seemed to notice Ye Wenxin’s stare but showed no avoidance. She took a bottle of water from her bag of holding and poured it into the washbasin. Instantly, the water became exceptionally clear before a faint malevolance surged out.
It wasn’t just the water. The food and many other things here gave off an unsettling feeling. Maybe it was the kitsune’s method of controlling people. However, the malevolance was harmless to Ye Wenxin. So she was surprised to see Fairy Fengya being concerned about it.
The other woman didn’t respond to Ye Wenxin’s question. Once the water was purified, she placed her delicate hand into the basin. With gentle stirring, Fairy Fengya slowly drew patterns resembling the Tai Chi symbol.
Curiosity piqued, Ye Wenxin moved closer to see what she was up to. The Taiji symbol Fairy Fengya drew took shape on the water’s surface and emitted a weak glow.
Gradually, the symbol faded and the water in the basin transformed into a mirror. Its rippling surface reflected the situation within the inn.
The close-up scene showed a dark shadow writhing in the night. It seemed to have no solid form. Even the spell formation couldn’t get a clear view. Ye Wenxin watched with a puzzled expression as the sinister shadow stealthily crept into one of the rooms.
A familiar figure came into view. It was none other than the innkeeper.
The innkeeper seemed terrified. He dropped to his knees before the shadow and began shouting phrases like ‘My liege’. The shadow spoke in a voice so hoarse and raspy that it sent chills down one’s spine.
“How are things coming along?”
“I followed your instructions and spoke with that mother and daughter pair.” The innkeeper appeared anxious yet still reported everything he did that day.
Ye Wenxin suspected her true identity had been exposed. The shadow was deliberately directing them to seek out Cosmos Academy. Was it trying to shift the blame to cover up its misdeeds? Although doubts began to form in Ye Wenxin’s mind, she patiently continued to listen.
