Chapter 509: Daily Life with Xiao Fengfeng 2
Wu Yong enthusiastically introduced the traditions and conditions of Cosmos Academy. Ye Wenxin nodded with feigned seriousness.
“Then, I can’t go inside and take a look?”
The previously enthusiastic Wu Yong immediately showed a troubled look. He waved his hand in a fluster.
“Of course not. Cosmos Academy’s teaching methods are not to be shared with outsiders. That’s why students must stay on campus until they have completed their studies. This is to prevent our teaching methods from being leaked. If you wish to visit, it would be better not to send your child here, madam.”
Wu Yong basically told her Fairy Fengya was a rare and outstanding child. However, he was still unwilling to break the rules for such a special student.
Ye Wenxin felt hopeless about getting in and regretted not using a student’s identity to enter. As she pondered what to do next, a new idea popped up.
“What a pity. My child is young and introverted. I really don’t want her to be suffering in isolation all by herself in there. No matter how famous Cosmos Academy is, I must see it to believe it. Let’s forget about this matter, then.”
Ye Wenxin took Fairy Fengya’s small hand, preparing to leave immediately. Seeing this, Wu Yong anxiously blocked their path.
“Actually, madam, she doesn’t need to be alone. You mentioned that your family is well-off. Why not arrange a study companion for the young mistress?”
Wu Yong didn’t want to give up persuading and get Fairy Fengya enrolled in Cosmos Academy. Ye Wenxin paused.
“But isn’t that against the academy’s rules? That’s why I didn’t bring a maid along on this trip.”
The rules at Cosmos Academy were strict and applied equally to all, including royalty. Many nobles chose this place to toughen their children and cultivate their self-reliance. Yet now, Wu Yong was openly suggesting breaking those rules.
Ye Wenxin was even more suspicious that something fishy and deceitful was happening.
“Rules have no life, but people do.” Wu Yong earnestly tried to convince Ye Wenxin. Ye Wenxin pretended to be moved.
“Alright, then. We will come back in a few days.”
Wu Yong became even more anxious. He seemed desperate to get Fairy Fengya enrolled.
“The young mistress can enter the academy first. You can go back and bring the maid. I will arrange everything for you then.”
Ye Wenxin acted conflicted again. She deliberately showed reluctance to part with her child. Well, no one short of the universe’s ultimate villain could do anything to Fairy Fengya. Ye Wenxin knew the other woman would be fine on her own.
But then she recalled Fairy Fengya’s complete indifference toward matters between men and women, and various other things.
Ye Wenxin voiced her agreement.
“Very well. Can I have a few words with my daughter?”
Wu Yong nodded vigorously. “Of course, of course.”
The man respectfully left, giving Ye Wenxin and Fairy Fengya some privacy.
“Xiao Fengfeng, make some friends at the academy.”
“Mm.”
“And don’t get into fights.”
“Mm.”
Ye Wenxin’s instructions always received the same brief response. She was already used to the other woman’s taciturn nature. Ye Wenxin knew she should be more worried about her fate as a villain than Fairy Fengya. But when she thought of Fairy Fengya’s personality, it made her sigh.
Ye Wenxin added, “Xiao Fengfeng, don’t let anyone other than me touch you.”
This time, Fairy Fengya finally had a different reaction. She looked at Ye Wenxin and asked, “Can I kill them?”
“How are you more bloodthirsty than a de— ahem, a kind, beautiful, and generous person like me?” Ye Wenxin sighed. “Well, it’s up to you. Take action only if you truly can’t tolerate them.”
She found that no matter where she went, she couldn’t escape the law of survival—survival of the fittest, the strong preying on the weak. Even if she didn’t want to fight, trouble always seemed to find Ye Wenxin.
Fairy Fengya nodded. “Alright.”
It was just one word, but it was enough. Ye Wenxin smiled and gently stroked Fairy Fengya’s hair as if she were actually a child. “Take good care of yourself. I’ll go in to accompany you in a few days.”
Fairy Fengya nodded again, ending their brief conversation. They went outside. Ye Wenxin and Wu Yong escorted Fairy Fengya to Cosmos Academy’s gate.
The gate stood grand and imposing. Primarily made of carved stone, the words ‘Huanyu Academy’ looked conspicuous and formal. It was evident that this place had a profound cultural heritage.
However, the atmosphere here was just as foul as in other parts of Liu City. Even this prestigious institution could not entirely escape the clutches of supernatural creatures.
“Madam, this is as far as we go.” Seeing Ye Wenxin standing at the entrance in a daze, Wu Yong reminded her not to take a step further, or she’d break the academy’s rules.
Apart from the days when it was open to the public, no one other than the students and teachers was allowed to enter Cosmos Academy. Ye Wenxin nodded and then waved at Fairy Fengya.
Fairy Fengya seemed somewhat reluctant to move. But she obediently walked over. Ye Wenxin gave her a kiss on the cheek.
“I will miss you, sweetie.”
These words seemed to irritate Fairy Fengya. With her brows slightly furrowed, she pushed Ye Wenxin away in disgust.
However, this didn’t discourage Ye Wenxin. She shamelessly called again, “Sweetie, aren’t you going to say goodbye to mommy?”
Fairy Fengya’s look of disgust only provoked Ye Wenxin’s mischievous streak. She wanted to see Fairy Fengya’s face when the woman called her ‘mommy’.
Fairy Fengya’s lips parted, but no words came out. It seemed like she was mouthing ‘safe travels’.
“Sweetie, I want to hear you say it out loud.”
Ye Wenxin insisted Fairy Fengya should express herself. Fairy Fengya seemed resigned. She glanced at Wu Yong watching the scene unfold, before leaning close to Ye Wenxin’s ear.
Ye Wenxin was overjoyed, thinking that Fairy Fengya was about to call her ‘mommy’. But then she suddenly heard Fairy Fengya’s voice in its original tone.
“Don’t push it.”
Ye Wenxin nearly burst out laughing. She hugged Fairy Fengya tightly and gave her another kiss. However, it was more of a forceful embrace to vent her dissatisfaction.
Fairy Fengya didn’t resist. From an outsider’s perspective, her expressionless face conveyed a sense of resignation to her fate.
Wu Yong watched enviously, but still reminded Ye Wenxin to be mindful of the time.
Reluctantly, Ye Wenxin released Fairy Fengya. She watched as Wu Yong led the other woman through the large gate. The gate slowly closed behind them, as if separating two worlds.
