Chapter 517: Teacher-Student Romance
Wen Susu revealed, “Her name is Ye Xiaowen.”
The kitsune recognized the name. “The new student? I scared her like that a few days ago, and she still dared to enroll. I didn’t expect such luck to exist!”
“No, not the pretty one. The plain one.” Wen Susu was reading the kitsune’s thoughts, and realized she had mistaken the person.
The kitsune showed condescension. “The plain one? I don’t see anything special about her. On the contrary, the pretty one just came a few days ago and already those imps are hooked. If I was not here, who knows what kind of trouble would have arisen.”
As the kitsune rambled about her frustrations, Wen Susu tossed her a quiet remark.
“Believe it or not. It’s up to you.”
The kitsune thought she was upset and hurried to say, “Good sister, don’t be angry! I know you have my best interest at heart. I’ll find her right now. Once I use my methods, a brat like that will be putty in my hands!”
Wen Susu remained silent. Already used to this, the kitsune continued, “But can’t I take all of that romantic fortune for myself?”
“Not possible. If you eat her, disaster will fall upon you.”
Wen Susu furrowed her brows. No further elaboration was necessary for her to understand the kitsune’s thoughts. Fortunately, the kitsune was a simple-minded being. Having been around the Heavenly Book for so long, she was well aware of Wen Susu’s methods. She would never harbor any harmful intentions.
So, the kitsune took Wen Susu’s warning to heart and shelved her little urge. Bidding a quick farewell, she was off to prepare for a lovely meeting with Ye Wenxin.
Wen Susu remained in place, looking at her books that had been messed with again. A hint of gloom flashed in her eyes, and she murmured to the damaged books, “Don’t blame me for being ruthless. I won’t forgive anyone who harms you, not even a friend.”
Unbeknownst to the kitsune, Wen Susu had just betrayed her. What she said was the truth, but only Ye Wenxin could use the peach blossoms on her body. No matter how much the kitsune liked men, she would eventually fall under the peach blossom luck’s might.
And making a straight female demon fall for another woman was much more intriguing than any wild tales in the realm. A rare smile appeared on Wen Susu’s usually melancholic face, as if she could already see her best friend’s downfall…
Ye Wenxin remained unaware of being set up. Feeling the familiar pain in her back again, she cursed at her nuisance of a special ability. Not only was it the most useless ability imaginable, but it constantly had her guessing.
The peach blossom demon couldn’t speak and seemed very timid, unwilling to engage much with Ye Wenxin. Even worse, the fabled Heavenly Book was nowhere to be found. She was left to solve the mysteries within this academy all by herself.
Time flew by. Lunch break quickly ended as afternoon classes began. Ye Wenxin felt drowsy. Although the lessons proved insightful, they served little practical use to someone like her.
Even worse, the kitsune’s persistent smell made her feel distinctly uncomfortable, as if there was a cosmic clash between them. Ye Wenxin wondered how many people she had devoured for her scent to become as offensive as it was.
In her musings, Ye Wenxin’s gaze fell upon the quiet Wen Susu sitting nearby. The recurring pain in her back coincided with Wen Susu’s presence a few times. So Ye Wenxin had her eye on her. However, she had no excuse to talk to her. Just as she contemplated how to get close, she suddenly felt a gaze on her.
Ye Wenxin looked up. The kitsune tapped a ruler against her shoulder.
The coldness in her expression made the kitsune on the podium seem different from the one outside of class. Ye Wenxin was surprised when she heard her say, “Come see me after class.”
She smiled wryly, but the other students all gasped. Envy filled their eyes, as if being taken away by the kitsune was some lucky thing. Ye Wenxin, however, felt differently. She had no desire to become a degenerate, and also felt this kitsune was more than she could chew. The sudden attention from her only made Ye Wenxin more cautious.
However, she felt her disguise was flawless, so…
Ye Wenxin glanced over at Fairy Fengya in the distance. She thought it must have been something unusual about Fairy Fengya that aroused the kitsune’s suspicions. As she stared, the pain returned, and the kitsune tapped her with the ruler again.
She gave Ye Wenxin a warning look not to get distracted. Ye Wenxin had no choice but to focus on the kitsune.
When the class ended, the kitsune waited for her outside. The strange sight perplexed Ye Wenxin, while her desk mate was envious. “How nice, getting punished by Ms. Asu.”
“……”
Everyone at this academy had gone mad, Ye Wenxin thought. She forced a smile and walked out. The kitsune led the way further down an increasingly isolated path. Ye Wenxin had the nagging feeling that something dreadful was about to happen.
Could the kitsune be intending to devour her? If so, it would leave obvious traces. As she pondered the kitsune’s intentions, they soon arrived at a secluded place.
It was a walled private residence, with an air of artistic elegance. Following the kitsune inside, Ye Wenxin noticed various portraits of men adorning the walls. Each was rendered in ink wash, one different from the last, with annotations.
Strangely, one of the portraits depicted Mo Xiaohai, whom she had just seen in the dining hall earlier. However, like the other portraits, his was marked with a small “X”. Ye Wenxin glanced at the numerous portraits nearby. She roughly counted over a hundred of them.
If these portraits represented the kitsune’s conquests, she must have reached a thousand kills. Ye Wenxin mockingly compared her to a public bus in her mind.
The kitsune was already seated, beckoning to her. “Come, Xiaowen. Sit over here.”
Ye Wenxin nodded and cautiously sat on the floor cushion. The kitsune then opened a drawer and took out several sheets of paper.
Ye Wenxin unfolded the papers in confusion, only to find various questions written on them. “Teacher, what is this?”
It resembled a questionnaire survey on Earth. Ye Wenxin felt that not only was the gate here advanced, but even the kitsune’s way of life had a distinctly modern vibe. However, whether it was the gate or these surveys, they all came from the Heavenly Book.
The kitsune was merely borrowing the latter to build a closer relationship with Ye Wenxin more quickly.
