Chapter 520: Spectating
The kitsune started seeking out Ye Wenxin as a backup again. Her expression showed sorrow as she lamented why she could never meet a good man.
A portrait of the recently deceased teacher had joined the others. Reportedly, he had the shortest life span among all who had gotten involved with the kitsune. Yet, she refused to give up and decided to search again, taking Ye Wenxin along.
Ye Wenxin couldn’t understand why she had become her accessory. The kitsune seemed to have developed an inexplicable attachment to her.
However, it was already a week since she arrived at the academy, never leaving its grounds. So, she decided to follow along for a change of scenery. But seeing the lifeless state of the city, Ye Wenxin regretted going out.
The kitsune was visibly excited, though. Looking around at the men along the main street, she searched for her next target. Romance was everything to her, but sadly, none of her attempts would ever bear fruit.
Ye Wenxin wandered along with her. She observed the men’s passionate gazes towards the kitsune before they met their end under her fate’s curse.
The pace was quicker this time, as if Ye Wenxin’s presence accelerated their deaths. The kitsune grew more frustrated. She dragged Ye Wenxin to a tavern to drown her sorrows in alcohol. Seeing the kitsune in tears, Ye Wenxin felt more sure the troubles in Liu City had nothing to do with her.
But then, who had led Liu City to its current unchecked state? As Ye Wenxin pondered the answer, she suddenly sensed another presence approaching. The next second, another demon flew in through the window. Clad in black, she had apricot-yellow eyes, fox ears, and a tail, seemingly the same species as the kitsune.
“Luo Mo, why haven’t you mated yet?” The female demon mocked the kitsune upon seeing her. Her belly had a slight swell, as if carrying a new life.
The demon race had a unique reproductive system, allowing them to mate with other species. However, to ensure capable offspring, they usually chose to seduce humans. Seeing the drained appearance of the men in the city, Ye Wenxin realized these kitsune must be in their mating season.
Ye Wenxin also finally learned this kitsune was called Luo Mo1, which seemed fitting for someone so down and out. As she thought this, something suddenly occurred to her. She was still conscious. If the two kitsune realized this, they might kill her to destroy the evidence.
Quickly, Ye Wenxin pretended to faint. But the other, a flower kitsune, looked over and ridiculed, “Oh, this is the first time I’ve seen you with a female. Have you finally given up on the throne?”
Ye Wenxin sensed a deeper story behind that remark. Luo Mo, who had been in a drunken stupor just moments ago, immediately sobered. Anger flashed in her eyes as she slowly said, “Get lost.”
The flower kitsune merely laughed and sat with them, brazenly helping herself to the food on the table. Luo Mo grew more furious. Ye Wenxin noticed pinkish gas enveloping her before Luo Mo transformed into her fox form. Her tails struck fiercely at the flower kitsune as she stood up.
The two kitsune were evenly matched in strength and seemed tired of their human forms. Now in their fox forms, they began to bite fiercely at each other. Ye Wenxin continued pretending to be under an enchantment as she enjoyed their physical brawl.
They crashed through the walls of the private room, attracting more kitsune to the scene.
Ye Wenxin snuck under the table, and suddenly noticed someone else next to her, also watching the fight.
Wen Susu was sitting beside her. Ye Wenxin had no idea when she had appeared. It was so uncanny. Ye Wenxin couldn’t imagine anyone else but the Heavenly Book doing something like this.
Wen Susu did not seem surprised to see her. She watched the chaos before them with a concerned look.
“Aren’t you going to do something about it?” Ye Wenxin asked, trying to find out if Wen Susu was the fabled Heavenly Book.
Wen Susu showed no intention of hiding the truth. She calmly said, “I already am.” She took a step back to avoid a splash of wine. No matter how much she resembled a human, her nature was still that of a book.
Meanwhile, the two frenzied kitsune had no idea about her presence. They kept biting and clawing at each other, leaving wounds all over. Despite this, the surrounding kitsune were still watching the spectacle, commenting on the intensity of the battle for the throne.
Ye Wenxin had lost most of her interest in this clichéd tale, but unable to leave, she could only stifle a yawn.
“What are you two doing?!” A commanding voice thundered. A massive fox with black and white fur had appeared, almost filling the entire room. Respect immediately showed on everyone’s faces upon seeing the giant fox.
“King.”
Ye Wenxin glanced at the so-called fox king. Although majestic, he seemed gravely ill, barely holding on in front of the others. This was probably why Luo Mo was desperate to find a man to mate with.
“My king, save me.” The red kitsune crying out seemed to be Luo Mo’s rival. Their fight had been so fierce that her belly began to leak fluid, suggesting miscarriage. Luo Mo showed no sympathy and stomped hard on the red kitsune’s belly.
The stomp revealed the bump to be a pillow. Clutching it, the red kitsune fled in embarrassment. Luo Mo, blood still on her lips and her body covered in wounds, hadn’t gained much either.
“Hurry up and find a man to mate with.” The fox king’s tone showed little favor for Luo Mo. The kitsune pursed her lips but ultimately nodded respectfully. She walked over to Ye Wenxin and carried her away.
To avoid revealing she had witnessed the entire scene, Ye Wenxin still pretended to be under control until they arrived at a new location.
The kitsune did not lift the Charm but commanded Ye Wenxin to apply medicine to her wounds. There were numerous injuries on her body. She and the red kitsune had been trying to kill each other.
Ye Wenxin couldn’t comprehend why members of the demon race had gathered here. They were supposed to be on another continent. Was it possible that many demons existed on the continent, but they happened to migrate here, preparing to establish their dynasty?
More questions kept appearing in her mind. But the greatest enigma was Wen Susu, the Heavenly Book. If she was the Heavenly Book, why did she show no reaction to these reckless kitsune?
Contemplating this increasingly chaotic realm, she suddenly realized that she, the former Demon Lord, seemed to have forgotten something important.
