Chapter 526: Can ( ) with Right Away
The other, more popular interpretation referred to a matchmaker.
When the kitsune led Ye Wenxin into the Iceborn Pavilion, she noticed many pairs of eyes turning to look at the kitsune in unison. However, seeing her hold a young girl’s hand, most of them displayed disappointed expressions.
The kitsune appeared unconcerned. She told Ye Wenxin to sit and wait for her. Having no interest in this matchmaking establishment, Ye Wenxin obediently waited on the side. However, her keen hearing could still pick up the conversation between the kitsune and the iceborn in charge of records.
“Any preferences, miss?”
“Male.”
It seemed to be the record-keeper’s first time dealing with a young lady like this. The brush in her hand twitched subtly. She couldn’t help but ask another question. “That is rather brief, miss. Are there no other specific criteria?”
The kitsune considered before answering, “Preferably one I can mate with right away.”
The record keeper’s face instantly flushed at the kitsune’s uncouth and blunt words. Ye Wenxin thought she seemed desperate too, but further reflection made her realize that purity wasn’t important for the kitsune. The throne was far more significant among her people.
However, the kitsune was destined to bring misfortune to men and have no result in romantic relationships. Ye Wenxin could almost picture the kitsune causing the untimely death of one man after another.
Unaware that Ye Wenxin had overheard the conversation, the kitsune stole glances at her. She seemed afraid of Ye Wenxin discovering the topic of discussion. Ye Wenxin found that strange but feigned cluelessness as she sat quietly in her place. Soon after, a woman came and sat beside her.
“Little girl, did you come here with your mother?” The woman smiled warmly and couldn’t help but try to touch Ye Wenxin. Ye Wenxin looked at the makeup on the woman’s face. Lately, her peach blossom luck had grown so strong that it had become indiscriminate. She instinctively tried to avoid the touch, only to feel an arm wrapping around her waist.
With her current height reaching only 1.5 meters, Ye Wenxin was easy to handle. She glanced back. As expected, it was the kitsune, wearing a smile, her beautiful eyes narrowing into slits. She looked charming yet filled with a murderous aura.
This was, perhaps, the kitsune’s true nature. She gave a deadly smile and then slowly spat out a single word.
“Scram.”
The woman froze before suddenly turning to flee, her body under the kitsune’s control. When Ye Wenxin thought the matter was over, the woman crashed into a far-off wall several times. It went on until she was bleeding from her head, tears covering her face.
The kitsune smiled with satisfaction. She licked her lips in thirst, exposing her inherent cruelty. Eventually, realizing how evil she might look, she quickly put a gentle smile back on. “I don’t know what’s going on with that person. Running herself into the wall like that.”
Countless sarcastic remarks bubbled up inside Ye Wenxin, but she nodded along. It felt like the kitsune was trying to deceive a child, and she happened to be said ‘child’.
“Miss, what is this place?” Still affecting a child’s innocence, Ye Wenxin expressed curiosity about their surroundings. The kitsune responded cursorily and then led Ye Wenxin away from there. Walking at a snail’s pace, she blankly stared at the men and women on the street, often lost in thought.
She appeared at a loss as to what she was truly seeking.
Ye Wenxin grew more puzzled as she watched the kitsune spacing out. She questioned the purpose of their outing. “Weren’t we supposed to be shopping, Miss?”
The kitsune smiled wryly and replied, “Oh, right. I almost forgot about that. Let’s go.” With that, she tugged Ye Wenxin toward a distant funeral parlor.
The Yin energy in the funeral parlor nearly made Sword Ghost jump out excitedly. If Ye Wenxin hadn’t stopped her quickly, the kitsune would have noticed her.
This place was distinctly different from the Iceborn Pavilion they had just visited. Ye Wenxin’s suspicions grew even stronger.
Wen Susu, the Heavenly Book, and Luo Mo, the kitsune, had an intricate connection with the academy. The dimension that resembled a secret realm seemed to be a gathering place for wandering spirits unable to find peace. Why create this dimension when reincarnation was the best solution?
Ye Wenxin found this realm was full of questions she couldn’t explain with her current knowledge and experience. As she stood there lost in thought, the kitsune returned, holding skewers of grilled food.
They used bamboo sticks and emitted a subtle, savory aroma. Ye Wenxin felt apprehensive, knowing kitsune’s usual preference for bloody foods. However, she noticed the kitsune carefully picking out several skewers with thoroughly cooked meat, as if she had specifically instructed the vendor to prepare them for Ye Wenxin.
“Thank you.” Ye Wenxin thought the kitsune seemed gentler than before. It differed from the earlier, calculated attempts to get close to her. Now, the kitsune was treating her more like a friend.
“What are you saying? I should be thanking you for coming out with me today.” The kitsune smiled, seeming shy as a faint blush appeared on her fair face.
Ye Wenxin was bemused but didn’t think much of it as she munched on the skewers. The pair sat together on a bench, watching the hustle and bustle around them.
Ye Wenxin wondered when the stench had vanished.
She wasn’t sure if she had grown numb to it after spending too much time with the kitsune, or if the kitsune was genuinely changing for the better. Ye Wenxin glanced at the woman beside her, only to find her secretly looking back.
When the kitsune noticed Ye Wenxin turning her head, she quickly averted her gaze, appearing flustered. This behavior only left Ye Wenxin more frustrated. She couldn’t understand what had been happening with the kitsune these days.
The kitsune was very well-behaved after that. They finally left an incense stick’s turn later and returned to the academy.
The days of classes went on as usual, but the kitsune became increasingly busy mingling with various men. Each time, she would come back stinking of alcohol.
Occasionally, Ye Wenxin would run into her, and the kitsune would run away, guilty as a thief. But at night, she would reappear in her true form in Ye Wenxin’s room.
Nearly a month had passed since Ye Wenxin entered the academy, and her patience was running out. She wanted to confront Wen Susu and ask her about the things she wanted to know.
