Chapter 532: Gentle Demon Lord
The suspicious group jumped in fright upon hearing the voice. But when they saw it was Ye Wenxin, they let out a breath. “You scared us… Take a guess.”
Ye Wenxin’s gaze landed on the book. Noticing how new it looked, she immediately had an idea.
“It’s Wen Susu’s book?”
“You’re so clever, Xiaowen! As a reward, why don’t you put this book back in her drawer for us?” The mischievous boy gave her a thumbs-up, encouraging Ye Wenxin to join their prank.
As the former notorious Demon Lord Gu Qingcheng, Ye Wenxin hadn’t participated in such childish and petty pranks in a long time. At the boy’s suggestion, she slipped the book into Wen Susu’s drawer without a second thought.
That could be considered bullying, but Ye Wenxin was curious to see how the Heavenly Book would react to such treatment. So she decided to join in. The others happily accepted her participation and waited for the always Wen Susu to show up.
However, Wen Susu didn’t attend the first class and only showed up late for the second, which was the kitsune’s class. The group stared at her, eagerly awaiting her reaction when she discovered the big turtle they had left for her.
Ye Wenxin was also interested in how Wen Susu would handle the situation.
Soon enough, Wen Susu opened her book, but there was no change in her expression. She listened to the lesson as usual but seemed to finger the pages more frequently. The kitsune continued speaking and pacing around the classroom. Just as Ye Wenxin thought the prank had gone unnoticed, the kitsune suddenly spotted the large turtle drawn in Wen Susu’s book.
“Who played this prank on Wen Susu!?” The kitsune immediately became furious and even raised her voice, glaring at everyone. Ye Wenxin caught a whiff of that stench again. It seemed to intensify with the kitsune’s emotional outburst. The stench had a link to her power, and cultivators would feel instinctively uncomfortable around it. As Ye Wenxin wrinkled her nose at the smell, Wen Susu stood up and, without hesitation, called out the names of the culprits.
“Li Daniu, Zhang Xiaoshuang… and Ye Xiaowen.” She didn’t spare Ye Wenxin, even though Ye Wenxin had only joined the prank midway. Furious, the kitsune ordered all of them to stand.
Everyone looked displeased. Once class ended, the group started plotting an even more extreme prank to drive the obnoxious Wen Susu out of the academy. However, the girl who had suggested the prank earlier voiced her opposition. She thought the kitsune teacher was too big of a threat.
As the others used their little brains to brainstorm ways to bully Wen Susu, Ye Wenxin listened to their childish schemes. But after reflection, she realized adults weren’t much different. It was always about the survival of the fittest, where the strong ruled over the weak, and the victors wrote the history. The difference was that adults used more sophisticated words to dress it up.
Ye Wenxin felt a certain sense of irony but didn’t bother to dissuade the group like the female student did just now. She wanted to see how far her tolerance could go, or if Wen Susu was as generous as the ocean.
Ye Wenxin decided to forgo talking to Fairy Fengya today. After hearing Wen Susu’s strange words yesterday, she wanted to avoid too much contact with Fairy Fengya.
This past few days, the children’s pranks had grown more elaborate. They splashed Wen Susu with water, smeared ink on her clothes, and put chili peppers in her food. Wen Susu remained calm, avoiding all harm except when they defaced her book.
The others couldn’t contain themselves any longer. They started to get physical, pushing Wen Susu into a corner and trying to trick her out of her silver and other small trinkets.
Wen Susu still did not resist, while Ye Wenxin could no longer hold back her frustration. She sent the others away, genuinely puzzled as to why Wen Susu did nothing when she had the power to.
“Wen Susu, you sure have good temper,” Ye Wenxin remarked with a sigh. Wen Susu smiled and replied, “Because I knew you would help me.”
Ye Wenxin froze. For some reason, prophetic abilities like this always irked her. She pressed Wen Susu against the wall and asked, “So, do you know what I’m about to do?” She deliberately made a fierce expression, hoping to settle this thing before Wen Susu could read her memories.
“Kiss me?” Wen Susu responded hesitantly, but contrary to her expectations, Ye Wenxin punched her in the stomach.
The unexpected contrast erased all romanticism of the kabedon (wall slam).
“Not everything follows a script,” Ye Wenxin concluded, feeling strangely refreshed. Wen Susu frowned slightly, seeming to feel some pain as she covered the spot where she got hit. “Whatever makes you happy.”
Those mere words managed to fuel Ye Wenxin’s anger. Wen Susu remained so content despite being bullied.
“Ah, the Heavenly Book is so impressive.” Ye Wenxin felt irritation building up. However, Wen Susu seemed to enjoy seeing her angry and continued taunting her, “Get even angrier and you’ll induce Qi Deviation.”
Just like when Ye Wenxin had been frustrated with Fairy Fengya, she now felt vulnerable in front of Wen Susu, who seemed to know everything about her. She clenched her fists, feigning to hit Wen Susu. Wen Susu’s brows flinched in dread, but what landed on her face was not a punch. It was Ye Wenxin drawing closer.
The peach blossom chains around her manifested. She intended to make Wen Susu their captive right there in the corridor.
Horrified, Wen Susu resisted and pleaded, “Please, don’t…”
But her words only excited Ye Wenxin. She restrained Wen Susu’s hands and ripped her clothing open. The fabric immediately transformed into book pages, floating lightly to the ground. Wen Susu blushed in humiliation, staring anxiously at Ye Wenxin.
Nothing happened, though. There wasn’t even a kiss. With a cruel smile, Ye Wenxin spoke, “Don’t think we humans are easy to bully. It’s the unknown that makes life interesting.”
She tossed the pages toward Wen Susu and nonchalantly walked away, as if the deranged person from moments ago was someone else entirely.
Wen Susu watched Ye Wenxin’s retreating figure and couldn’t help but mutter to herself, “The Demon Lord in the unofficial history is much gentler.”
This day would give rise to a new narrative of the gentle Demon Lord. However, the recipient of her gentleness was no longer Long Qingyue or Fairy Fengya, but a book.
