Release the Female Lead Ch. 541

Chapter 541: Make a Move!

The demons bid with spirit stones. They seemed to possess unrestricted access to Liu City. Meanwhile, humans or cultivators could only enter but never leave the closed-off place. If Ye Wenxin tried to walk out, she would not find a path leading out. Escaping the academy didn’t mean she could break free from Liu City’s boundaries.

With this realization, Ye Wenxin knew she still had to deal with the complications surrounding Wen Susu and the kitsune.

A sense of urgency finally formed in her mind until a commotion outside interrupted her thoughts. Ye Wenxin peeked out and saw the kitsune and the red kitsune locked in another brawl. The cheering of the onlookers served to pour oil into the fire of their rivalry tonight. Animals were competitive by nature. Despite their human forms and heightened intellect, they could not overcome their ambitions.

The visibly anxious innkeeper wanted to stop the two from fighting in his establishment. However, he lacked the guts to approach, so he could only stand back and watch. Others also kept their distance as they looked on at the chaos. They seemed to have forgotten why the fight had started in the first place.

Ye Wenxin acted oblivious until the commotion died and the innkeeper called her over.

“Take this up to the Sky Room.” He pointed to a tray of drinks. She nodded and caught the red kitsune still grumbling nearby, looking worse than before. She seemed to have lost another ear after transforming into her fox form, which made her appear more comical.

Noticing Ye Wenxin glancing at her, the red kitsune’s eyes flashed with venomous resentment. Her lips curled into a sinister smirk, as though she was plotting something malicious to upset the balance.

Ignoring her, Ye Wenxin proceeded upstairs. She found the door to the Sky Room and knocked lightly.

“Come in,” called the kitsune from within. She sounded calm, as if the earlier fight hadn’t fazed her. Ye Wenxin carefully opened the door, only to glimpse a figure moving swiftly across the room. The kitsune was using her clothes to cover herself. A trail of blood on the floor suggested she had sustained many injuries in her efforts to best the red kitsune.

Fleetingly, Ye Wenxin had noticed the seven tails behind the kitsune. But they weren’t supposed to be visible to ordinary mortals, so Ye Wenxin placed the tray down and turned to leave without reacting.

“Wait,” the kitsune immediately called her back.

“Is there something else you require, ma’am?” Ye Wenxin asked, feigning polite curiosity while keeping a respectful distance to avoid any slip in her act.

It seemed the kitsune hadn’t prepared a reason for calling Ye Wenxin. After a pause, she pointed to some medicine nearby and said, “I’m injured. Could I trouble you to help me apply medicine?” She gestured to the scrape on her forehead. The red kitsune had bashed her against the wall a few times.

“Of course, ma’am.” Ye Wenxin stepped closer. Glancing at the primitive ointment, she realized just how outdated the demons’ treatment methods were. Regardless, she set about tending to her.

Standing at her modest height of 1.5 meters, Ye Wenxin felt tiny beside the kitsune’s 1.7-meter frame. With utmost care, she applied the ointment to the kitsune’s forehead. But the kitsune’s gaze lingered on her, her breath tickling Ye Wenxin’s skin.

That gaze was heated, like Ye Wenxin was her prey. Her hand moved gently over Ye Wenxin’s back, her eyes carrying a trace of longing. Yet she also seemed to struggle with herself, as if restraining her unusual feelings. Ye Wenxin could tell she had affected her. However, after being caught in her conflicting emotions, she let Ye Wenxin go.

But those feelings resurfaced when she saw Ye Wenxin again. Unable to control them, she pulled Ye Wenxin into a tight embrace.

“Ma’am, what are you…?” Ye Wenxin suddenly sensed the situation to be heading in a dangerous direction. The kitsune said in a near murmur, “It just hurts a little.”

The kitsune responded as if genuinely treating Ye Wenxin like a gullible child. Ye Wenxin suppressed a bitter smile but replied, “Oh. I’ll be gentler then.”

She carefully tended to the kitsune’s wound. Even after she had finished, the kitsune was still staring at her.  Ye Wenxin couldn’t quite decipher what lay beneath her complicated expression.

“All done, ma’am.”

“You’ve been a great help.” Ye Wenxin left the room after that brief exchange. Descending the stairs, she spotted the innkeeper wearing a suggestive look, like he wanted to ask something. But with the red kitsune nearby, he held back and smiled, letting Ye Wenxin get back to her work.

The red kitsune appeared angry. After another look at her face, the red kitsune finally recalled that this was the student she’d seen during her last fight with the kitsune.

Now, the kitsune had fought her for this human again, which sparked a malicious idea in the red kitsune’s mind. She planned to wrestle with Ye Wenxin to humiliate the kitsune.

“Be careful. The red kitsune is going to make a move on you.” Wen Susu’s voice echoed in Ye Wenxin’s mind. She had somehow established a connection with Sword Ghost, enabling her to hear the conversation on Ye Wenxin’s end from afar.

Even though she wasn’t physically present, Wen Susu seemed to have a grasp of the situation.

“Look at her. What can she possibly do to me?” Ye Wenxin considered the red kitsune’s appearance. She was nowhere near as beautiful as Wen Susu or the kitsune. Also, Ye Wenxin leaned more toward gentle types. The red kitsune was far too obsessive. She couldn’t help but feel getting involved with her would eventually lead to trouble.

“Hmph, I’ve warned you. The rest is up to you.” Annoyed with Ye Wenxin’s lack of concern, Wen Susu immediately cut off the connection after saying her piece.

Ye Wenxin rubbed her head. As suspected, the red kitsune approached her to ask where the privy was. Only someone like her could come up with such a pitiful tactic.

Determined to teach her a profound lesson, Ye Wenxin led the red kitsune to the privy. However, the red kitsune had no intention of using it. Before they had even reached halfway, she pulled Ye Wenxin to her. She intended to pin her against the wall and use the most direct method to humiliate the kitsune.

Ye Wenxin was prepared for this. Calling upon the white furball in her mind, she conjured an illusion. The red kitsune paused for a moment and then continued to lean in and kiss Ye Wenxin.

But Ye Wenxin had already stepped back and watched as the red kitsune kicked things up with her illusion clone.
