Chapter 543: Ride Me
He looked imposing, but no matter how handsome a pig was, it would never be enough to spark Ye Wenxin’s interest.
“Now, let me introduce you to the others.” Noting Ye Wenxin’s lack of fear, he led her to meet the other staff working at the inn.
There was a spider demon waiter, a centipede demon chef, and a mix of other demons. But what surprised Ye Wenxin most was the sight of a panda.
This panda was an outspoken and plump auntie. Noticing Ye Wenxin’s interest, she even offered to let Ye Wenxin ride on her back. Ye Wenxin happily accepted. She never dreamed she’d meet a panda here, much less have the opportunity to ride on the back of a panda demon!
Ye Wenxin found this fluffiness irresistible. She was even more delighted to see the plump auntie’s cubs. By the next day, she affectionately began calling the panda “Auntie”.
In her free time, panda rides had become Ye Wenxin’s favorite pastime. While she wished to interact more with the other demons, she had no courage to approach the spider and centipede demon.
The other demons appeared resentful each time they watched her play. They couldn’t understand why their beautiful forms were so unpopular. Meanwhile, Auntie Panda happily indulged Ye Wenxin.
Seeing how much Ye Wenxin adored panda demons, Auntie Panda even brought her daughter to play with Ye Wenxin. Of course, Ye Wenxin’s natural appeal towards the fairer sex sparked possessiveness in Daughter Panda. Both mother and daughter wanted Ye Wenxin to ride them.
Ye Wenxin resigned herself to her fate. A week had passed before she realized it, and she was starting to tire of riding pandas. She pondered how to decline the panda mother and daughter tactfully. However, her body was already climbing onto Auntie Panda’s back of its own accord.
Auntie Panda excitedly ran around the backyard with Ye Wenxin on her back. Although the initial thrill had faded, Ye Wenxin still praised Auntie Panda’s skills.
Today, however, the commotion seemed to have drawn attention. A window swung open, revealing the kitsune peering in from outside. She watched Ye Wenxin and Auntie Panda playing in the backyard with a forced smile. “You two seem to be having lots of fun.”
Ye Wenxin was about to respond, “Yes, it’s quite fun,” when she noticed another demon appear by the window. It was the handsy bear demon. According to Auntie Panda, the bear demon had been visiting frequently these days. The couple was finally planning their engagement.
Ye Wenxin had also come to understand the bear demon. He was an upright fellow but had a strong need for a particular method of interaction. So the kitsune would kick him out of her room every time.
Ye Wenxin didn’t know how far along the two demons were in their relationship. But since the bear demon was still alive and kicking, she concluded nothing had happened between them.
Ye Wenxin had visited the kitsune a few times in the past few days but nothing noteworthy had occurred. Meanwhile, the Heavenly Book had made herself scarce. Yet, Wen Susu always seemed to know what was happening, leaving Ye Wenxin exasperated.
“What kind of scandal is this!?” Seeing Ye Wenxin playing around with demons for the first time, the bear demon berated them.
The other demons frowned at his raised voice. “She’s just a child. It’s not a big deal.”
They were referring to the act of being ridden. The back was the most vulnerable part of a demon’s defense. So, it was off-limits to anyone but lovers or kin. At least, this had been the case throughout the history of this realm.
“Still, it shouldn’t be like this! We are proud demons! How can we allow a human to ride us!?” The bear demon seemed eager to assert the superiority of their race, claiming humans could never surpass them.
The other demons wore peculiar expressions. They seemed reluctant to endorse or agree with this statement. Ye Wenxin understood this was their way of protecting her. As she pondered what to say, the kitsune interjected, “It looks fun. Let me try as well.”
The kitsune transformed into her true form. The beautiful black fox elicited awed gasps from the others.
The black fox was extraordinarily beautiful and carried an air of nobility. Mysteriously, however, her nine tails were now seven. But this didn’t seem to dampen the kitsune’s spirits. She approached Ye Wenxin and said, “Go on, try riding me.”
Ye Wenxin realized the kitsune was throwing her a lifeline, so she stepped forward and stroked the kitsune’s fur. It was smooth and soft. A complex expression crossed the kitsune’s face at the attention. Her tails coiled around Ye Wenxin. Ye Wenxin felt herself being suspended midair before landing securely on the kitsune’s back.
“Beautiful!”
“As expected of Miss Luo!”
The other demons cheered, finding this method of throwing someone novel. The kitsune gave them a slight nod and picked up speed. She moved so quickly that it seemed as though she was flying. In just a few strides, she had carried Ye Wenxin up onto the rooftop.
The bear demon watched longingly with envy in his eyes. He seemed to wish he could ride on the kitsune’s back too. But at a second glance, the kitsune had already carried Ye Wenxin off further and further away.
“Hey, where’s Miss Luo!?”
“Maybe she’s showing Xiaowen around the area.”
The demons exchanged glances but knew the kitsune was far more upstanding than the red kitsune. She wouldn’t whisk Ye Wenxin away to eat her. Once the weight lifted from their minds, they ended their midday break, ready to pick up the slack while Ye Wenxin was out on her adventure…
True to the demons’ expectation, Ye Wenxin was safe and sound. The kitsune had brought her to the highest point in Liu City—the library tower. Despite all her deliberate searching, she’d never been able to find this place. Now, to be brought here in this way gave her mixed feelings.
The kitsune appeared exhilarated from the run. She was panting slightly. “So, how was it? Fun?” she asked Ye Wenxin, eager to show her the stark difference between riding the clumsy panda and riding her.
Ye Wenxin nodded and carefully climbed down from the kitsune’s back. She took in her surroundings. “Where are we?”
“This is the library tower.”
The kitsune shifted back to her human form. She coughed slightly, still not fully healed from the intense fight with the red kitsune. The quick run had also reopened her wounds, and she frowned at the discomfort.
Noticing this, Ye Wenxin focused on her, carefully touching around the kitsune’s wounds. “Your wounds are bleeding.”
The kitsune looked down at the blood trickling from her injuries. She tried to brush it off, but Ye Wenxin cut in before she could. “Do you have any medicine and bandages with you? I can help you re-bandage it.”
