Chapter 553: I’m the Other Woman!?”

Edit: Changed Peach Blossom Immortal Lord to Immortal Lord Taohua (peach blossom).

Ye Wenxin was speechless. She hadn’t considered such an unrealistic notion. Not even for a second.

“I’m not interested in fame or fortune. What I’m interested in is…”

Ye Wenxin trailed off, her eyes drawn to Fairy Fengya again. She felt strange. Fairy Fengya was right here, so why was she missing this emotionless woman? The feeling had awakened out of nowhere.

It made Ye Wenxin realize how deeply Wen Susu’s nonsense had affected her.

“What is it you’re interested in?”

“The Heavenly Book… If there ever comes a day, I want to know what secrets she hides in those pages.” Ye Wenxin thought of Wen Susu’s debating skills. If she had that, there’d be no need for daily guessing games or deductions. A glance would reveal everything about the other person’s past and memories.

It might be boring, but undeniably convenient.

“Hehehe, Cultivator Ye truly is a woman of culture.” Perhaps misinterpreting something, Fox King made a suggestive comment. Ye Wenxin had no idea what she’d done to warrant it, but it felt like Fox King was seeing her as some scumbag.

“Not in that way, I’m not.”

“If this old nose of mine is not mistaken, you have Luo Mo and Xiao Hong’s scent on you.”

Ye Wenxin cursed the demon’s keen sense of smell. She hadn’t had the chance to dispel the scents on her. So the traces of demons she had been in close contact with recently lingered noticeably on her.

Ye Wenxin was momentarily at a loss for words. Thinking he’d made her uncomfortable, Fox King quickly added, “But it is hardly anything compared to Immortal Lord Taohua.”

Fox King sighed with nostalgia. It was not the first time Ye Wenxin had heard of Immortal Lord Taohua. Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through her back. She wasn’t sure what had stirred the peach blossom demon dwelling in her back, the remark or the mere mention of ‘peach blossom’.

“Who is this Immortal Lord Taohua? I feel like I’ve never heard of her before,” Ye Wenxin pressed. Fox King looked at her in surprise. “Immortal Lord Taohua was once the most powerful person on this continent… Oh, but she ascended a long time ago. Her actions were morally ambiguous, so she’s not exactly revered. The deeds of Fairy Zhuling are more widely celebrated.”

Fox King sighed deeply. It was also not the first Ye Wenxin had heard mention of Great Grandma’s name. This realm seemed so vast that Ye Wenxin felt utterly ignorant of it. Yet it felt small, too; she seemed to have encountered many of these so-called famous figures within her circle.

“My king, you should get some rest.” The old city lord suddenly reappeared just as Fox King was about to share stories about Immortal Lord Taohua. He shot Ye Wenxin a glare, as if she had committed a grave offense.

Fox King returned to his half-mad, half-senile façade. The two old men held on to each other as they walked away, looking quite compatible from behind. Ye Wenxin had a sneaking suspicion they were a gay couple.

Otherwise, why would Fox King desire his heirs to conceive yet not make an effort to create the next generation of successors himself? With this thought in mind, Ye Wenxin sought out the kitsune.

The kitsune wore a peculiar expression. Ultimately, she responded directly to Ye Wenxin’s question with a sigh. “That is the case, indeed. Until one meets the right person, no one knows whether they prefer men or women.”

The kitsune kept her gaze on Ye Wenxin, frantically sending her hints.

Ye Wenxin awkwardly scratched her head. But considering the kitsune was about to get married, she decided it was best not to shake her resolve. So she shifted the topic. “When did you notice something off with me?”

The kitsune tilted her head, not understanding Ye Wenxin’s question.

“There was never anything off. Even if your appearance changed, I sense Ye Xiaowen when I see you. No, I should call you Ye Wenxin.” The kitsune smiled, but melancholy overshadowed that smile. Ye Wenxin fell silent. She had tried to divert the topic, yet somehow ended up right back where she started.

“But now that I think about it, you were too… experienced when I kissed you.” The kitsune’s cheeks blushed pink. Something settled over them. She reached out her hand, trying to touch Ye Wenxin’s.

Ye Wenxin didn’t pull away and understood she had become the other woman in the most unexpected way. The kitsune’s hand moved closer. With just one confirming glance from Ye Wenxin, she might continue where they left off last time.

As the twisted reality lay out before Ye Wenxin, she pondered how to refuse when suddenly she heard the bear demon’s voice.

“Luo Mo, this is where you are!” The kitsune withdrew her hand and went to the bear demon. However, her gaze lingered on Ye Wenxin with reluctance. Ye Wenxin sighed in relief, but then she heard another voice whisper by her ear, “Just a little more, and Luo Mo will see through her own heart.”

Ye Wenxin jumped in surprise. She turned to see Wen Susu, who seemed to have just woken up. When Ye Wenxin touched her, Wen Susu flinched.

“What are you doing!?”

“Saw your pages fall earlier, so I wondered if they’d all fall off if I tugged on them now.”

Wen Susu glared piercingly at her. “Who experiments like that? I’m just weak. I won’t actually die. If I do, this world would cease to exist.”

Wen Susu blurted out the words without understanding why she was so agitated. Despite knowing everything about Ye Wenxin, she still couldn’t grasp her actions.

And worse, the earlier scene left her unsettled when she should have been happy to see progress between Ye Wenxin and the kitsune.

Things were going true to her script, but losing the ability to see Ye Wenxin’s future made her anxious.

“Ah, I see.” After Wen Susu’s lengthy explanation, Ye Wenxin only responded with that brief remark, leaving the conversation hanging.

“You call yourself Wenxin (ask heart), yet it seems you’re missing a heart more than anyone.” Wen Susu mused on Ye Wenxin’s name. But to her surprise, Ye Wenxin laughed at the comment.

“And you’re called Wen Susu (text white white), yet I don’t see you sticking to just one color,” she mocked. But her gaze drifted toward Fairy Fengya again. Wen Susu’s wild comments had gotten into Ye Wenxin’s head. She kept staring at Fairy Fengya whenever she had a moment to spare.

Noticing Ye Wenxin’s gaze fixed on Fairy Fengya, Wen Susu felt an unmistakable discomfort rise within her. After thinking about it, she floated right in front of Ye Wenxin, blocking her view of Fairy Fengya.
