Chapter 556: You’re Not the Bride
Even Long Qingyue couldn’t bear to control her like this. How did Wen Susu think she had the right? Ye Wenxin detested this feeling, but Wen Susu only pursed her lips.
“But… you have to do this. It’s your fate as the peach blossom holder…” Wen Susu seemed about to reveal something substantial but abruptly stopped. She covered her mouth, looking at the window with a terrified face as if expecting divine retribution for speaking out.
“Enough. Don’t get too involved. You’re merely a Heavenly Book, not a messiah.” Ye Wenxin waved her hand dismissively, unwilling to dwell on it.
Wen Susu wildly pounded her fists on Ye Wenxin.
“Gu Qingcheng, you cold-blooded, heartless woman!” Ye Wenxin barely felt the blows while Wen Susu was panting from exhaustion. She looked a little cuter like this. Amid the struggle, Ye Wenxin sensed an unusual presence and quickly restrained Wen Susu.
“Shh, don’t move.” Ye Wenxin’s suddenly cold voice added a touch of dark allure. Although startled, Wen Susu also sensed something off in their surroundings.
Someone seemed to be approaching. Ye Wenxin hastily tossed Wen Susu onto the bed and wrapped her in the quilt. But on second thought, if the intruder were a demon, they’d surely sense someone else was here besides Ye Wenxin. So Ye Wenxin moved to throw the quilt-wrapped Wen Susu out the window.
“Don’t throw me! I can hide myself,” Wen Susu protested indignantly. She transformed into a book and nestled into the bookshelf, fitting in with the other volumes. Ye Wenxin sprinkled some air-freshening powder in a flurry just as the door creaked open.
The sound echoed conspicuously in the midnight silence. The kitsune, still in her bridal gown, stood in the doorway.
“Luo Mo, what are you doing here?” Ye Wenxin looked at her in surprise. It was supposed to be the kitsune and bear demon’s wedding night, yet the kitsune was standing here.
The kitsune appeared lost in thought as she slowly sat at the edge of the bed.
“Why are you here?” Ye Wenxin asked again, feeling the night stretching on. Wen Susu had been desperate to get her to seek out the kitsune. She hadn’t expected the kitsune to leave her bridal chamber and come here.
The kitsune slowly looked up at Ye Wenxin with a conflicted expression. “I… I don’t think I’m ready for this.” Confusion clouded her face, as if she didn’t fully understand her actions.
It seemed she had been drifting through the past days in a daze, with only one thought in her mind. She needed answers—and the only person who could give her those answers was Ye Wenxin.
“Are you talking about having children? It wouldn’t even happen the first time, which, from what I know, can be quite painful.” Ye Wenxin tried to keep an air of maturity. Although she had done it so many times, she couldn’t afford to give away her most important thing to anyone.
Giving herself away to someone like that would break her Iceborn Constitution. She could allow some intimacy, but never to the fullest extent.
“Not that, I mean being ready to do it. I feel lost, but… I can’t talk to Susu about it.” Ye Wenxin couldn’t help but feel these two friends had fully latched onto her. One begged her to help the kitsune awaken, while the other struggled to understand her own situation.
After listening quietly, Ye Wenxin sat down beside her. She planned on settling this matter tonight.
“Are you suggesting you want to try things with me again?”
“No, I just wanted someone to talk to. He sleeps like a log, and I had nothing to do there, so I came out here.” The bride was sitting alone with Ye Wenxin on her wedding night, watching her with no ulterior motives in those eyes.
But she was already admitting a truth she could no longer deny when she came to find Ye Wenxin.
“Actually, you don’t like men as much as you thought. For all you know, the person you like might be Wen Susu.” She spoke nonsense with a solemn face, and the kitsune couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
“Susu and I? That’s impossible. With you, though… there might be something there.” She looked at Ye Wenxin as if determined to confess.
As they locked eyes, the kitsune’s hand brushed against Ye Wenxin’s.
“Is this your first time?” the kitsune asked, perhaps recalling everything she had done to Ye Wenxin before.
Ye Wenxin replied frankly, “I have many Dao companions.”
The kitsune’s approaching lips hesitated before she continued, “That’s even better. You won’t feel pressured.”
She leaned in, confidently pushing Ye Wenxin down. Her hair cascaded around them like flowing ink. The kitsune seemed intent on taking things to their conclusion right then and there.
“You’re not even going to ask my opinion?” Ye Wenxin felt that both Wen Susu and the kitsune were too willful.
“But I’m just experimenting. Since you have so many Dao companions, you shouldn’t mind, right?” The kitsune brushed her lips softly against Ye Wenxin’s once. Then twice, thrice, four times until she was kissing her fervently.
Ye Wenxin stayed composed. The kitsune held her face with both hands, unable to resist a few more kisses.
“Your experiment is getting a little out of hand.” Ye Wenxin was not like Liuxia Hui1. She had already been holding back while caring for Sword Ghost, and the kitsune now seemed like prey that had fallen into her lap. It made her uncertain whether to take things further.
Doing that would only complicate things between them. Ye Wenxin also felt reluctant to add a new person into the mix.
Suddenly, she saw resolve in the kitsune’s eyes.
“I’ve figured it out. I like you,” the kitsune declared. This time, she lunged forward, fully embracing her long-suppressed feelings.
“But I already have many Dao companions.” Ye Wenxin held the kitsune’s shoulder back, cautioning her that she was not an exclusive person.
The kitsune smirked. “All the better. I’m still meant to marry someone else in the future.” She made her intentions clear, yet her body moved first, unwilling to let a wonderful first time pass by.
Ye Wenxin finally relented. She pressed down on the kitsune and started her offensive, continuing this ridiculous night…
The kitsune quietly left when dawn broke. Ye Wenxin’s mind cleared, feeling she had done another disastrous thing. She ‘ate’ the kitsune, just as Wen Susu had wanted.
Wen Susu materialized once the kitsune left. Ye Wenxin didn’t want to acknowledge fate, but she found there were some things she couldn’t resist.
“You won. Are you happy now?” Ye Wenxin had a complicated expression. She didn’t want to talk to Wen Susu.
Wen Susu stared blankly at her. “Yes, I won. Yet, why am I not happy at all?” Far from happy, she appeared conflicted instead.
