Chapter 6: The Demon Lord Gets Drunk
Huang Hanyan had already been in the Azure Wings Sect for several months, and had witnessed the infighting among the disciples. She had good talent but liked to show-off, and coupled with the Demon Lord’s past intervention, it placed her in a precarious position within the sect.
Long Qing’er had already entrusted her with watching over Ye Wenxin, so Huang Hanyan must guard her well no matter what, lest she be tainted at her young age by these dirty cultivators.
Junior Brother Lu’s face darkened slightly. He eventually withdrew the golden pill, turned around, and took several steps away, establishing a boundary between himself and Huang Hanyan.
“Senior Sister Huang, is this place always this chaotic?” Ye Wenxin suddenly felt there was not much difference between infighting within the Azure Wings Sect and the conflict among demon cultivators. It was all about scheming and maneuvering, only here, the disciples seemed to prefer playing immature tricks than relying solely on strength.
“It’s fine if you don’t draw attention to yourself, but now that you’re associated with Senior Sister Long, your every word and action represents her. She may be your support, and simultaneously your ruin.” Huang Hanyan explained, as if she had already figured out the various power struggles within the Azure Wings Sect.
“So exaggerated!” Ye Wenxin’s heart stirred, but also felt it was inevitable.
In this cultivation world, anyone who did not want to be the best in the world was a coward. But in reality, not everyone could be the best.
“It’s even more exaggerated than you think. This Senior Sister has a hard time even protecting myself, so I can only wish you safe.” Huang Hanyan said sincerely. Ye Wenxin was shaken, thinking if she took the backdoor through Long Qing’er, she would inevitably be dragged into these conflicts someday.
All she wanted to do was kill Fairy Fengya, she did not need this sort of hassle mixed in.
Now, after hearing Huang Hanyan’s words, she would rather attend the recruitment event in six months and get into the Azure Wings Sect through her own capabilities.
In any case, as a cultivator, she had plenty of time on her hands. After all, considering her cultivation level, living for several thousand years would certainly be no problem at all.
“Ah, if only I had known, I wouldn’t have been swayed by my master’s good looks. How nice it was to be the Demon Lord’s disciple, at least then I could catch a few glimpses of my master.” Huang Hanyan spoke without restraint, but they were alone at the moment, and Ye Wenxin could not be bothered to argue about the controversial things in an immortal sect.
Moreover, beyond this squabble over disciples, Ye Wenxin was more concerned about another matter.
“Senior Sister Huang, haven’t you ever met the master a few times?”
“No, or I should say, I’ve only seen her once. Although the benefits for inner disciples are good, almost all the teachings come from Senior Sister Long. Besides, our school is different from the others; we have no true disciples. And with Fairy Fengya’s penchant for closed door training, there’s even less chance of seeing her.”
Huang Hanyan poured out her grievances, inadvertently revealing to Ye Wenxin how much Fairy Fengya loved closed door training.
If her memory served her right, each time she had sent her disciples down the mountain, Fairy Fengya would always be in closed door training. If it were in Ye Wenxin’s original era, this would be nothing short of a recluse. What was terrifying was that this recluse never brought anything good whenever she appeared; it was either snatching disciples or poaching Ye Wenxin’s subordinates.
The more she thought about it, the more she gritted her teeth, mentally plotting a hundred ways to kill Fairy Fengya, until she heard Huang Hanyan calling out.
“Senior Sister Long, you’re back.”
Ye Wenxin turned to look at Senior Sister Long. She was still clad in purple robes and veil, but carried a hint of worry in her expression. It seemed her discussion with the Disciplinary Elder had not gone well.
“I’m sorry, Wenxin. I couldn’t be of much help.” Without pretense, Long Qing’er immediately disclosed the outcome to Ye Wenxin.
In contrast, Ye Wenxin was relieved. She clasped Long Qing’er’s hands, conveying her gratitude.
“Senior Sister Long, I truly appreciate your help… I will continue to work hard and in six months’ time, I’ll become your junior sister fair and square.” Ye Wenxin’s earnest response touched Long Qing’er deeply, prompting her to hold Ye Wenxin’s hand. “How about I write a letter for you? Would you like to bide your time in the Golden Age Dynasty first?”
“No, no, no… Ahem. What I meant to say, Senior Sister Long, is that we’ve only just met, and you’ve already helped me so much. How I should take the next path is for me to decide. Though I may not be educated, I’m certain I can make it through life just fine.”
Ye Wenxin had no desire to go to the Golden Age Dynasty, let alone have her best friend find out about her decision to renounce her peaceful life as the Demon Lord in order to kill Fairy Fengya.
Long Qing’er hesitated for a moment but eventually agreed. She opened her bag of holding and took out several high-grade spirit stones.
In this world, there existed copper coins, silver taels, and gold ingots. Above them were low-grade spirit stones, medium-grade spirit stones, and high-grade spirit stones. The value of high-grade spirit stones was enough to sustain a family of four for ten years, indicating their remarkable worth. However, now that Long Qing’er had casually handed over a sum equivalent to ten years’ worth of money to Ye Wenxin, how could she not be amazed?
“Senior Sister Long, I can’t accept this, really, I can’t.” Ye Wenxin hurriedly refused, adamant in her decision. She planned to descend the mountain and find a place to do her own closed door training for half a year. She did not need these to get by.
She would owe Long Qing’er a favor if she were to accept.
“You call me Senior Sister, how can I bear to see my junior sister suffer?” Long Qing’er responded, solemnly placing the spirit stones into Ye Wenxin’s hands.
Ye Wenxin ceased her resistance. “Senior Sister, these spirit stones I borrowed from you, I will definitely give them back someday.”
Listening to Ye Wenxin’s confident response, Long Qing’er smiled with relief. “Junior sister, you will surely become outstanding among your peers. I knew I didn’t misjudge you.”
Two pairs of hands clasped together, radiating warmth amidst the cold winter day.
“What about me? Aren’t I your junior sister too?” Huang Hanyan interrupted the tender moment, feeling a bit left out.
But Long Qing’er shot her a glance. “You’re already so grown up yet still act cute. Hurry up and memorize the cultivation technique. Don’t wait until Wenxin arrives; you won’t even be able to beat her then.”
Huang Hanyan closed her mouth, realizing she would not gain any advantage against Long Qing’er. Instead, she stepped forward to embrace Ye Wenxin, offering her blessings.
“Junior Sister Wenxin, you must become my junior sister, alright?”
In less than half a day, Ye Wenxin found herself experiencing a rare warmth from these two individuals. She nodded heavily, momentarily forgetting her sole purpose of seeking revenge. Their presence stirred something within her, igniting a desire to start anew.
As they sat together on the flying sword, Ye Wenxin and Long Qing’er remained silent the entire way, yet still held each other close.
It was unclear whether it was due to the strong wind or a feeling of coldness in their hearts.
“I’m sorry, junior sister. My identity is rather special, so you must rely on your own strength to get in.” Long Qing’er’s voice was barely audible, seemingly expressing her apology to Ye Wenxin.
Ye Wenxin understood as well. Long Qing’er’s abilities could undoubtedly bring her directly inside, but that would entail facing a world of bloodshed and turmoil, walking the same thorny path as Huang Hanyan. Long Qing’er, being so kind-hearted, was unwilling to drag her into such darkness.
Such a kind-hearted person, not at all as willful and capricious as her best friend had described.
But Ye Wenxin could only pretend not to have heard. Upon reaching the foot of the mountain, Long Qing’er escorted her for a few more miles before watching Ye Wenxin enter an inn.
Two dark figures flickered by her side, kneeling behind Long Qing’er.
“Your Highness, do you need us to safeguard that girl?”
“Is my business any of your concern?”
Long Qing’er’s voice once again became arrogant and dominant, bearing the aura of a sovereign. However, her eyes remained fixed on the direction where Ye Wenxin had gone.
“Forgive me, Your Highness. I shouldn’t have speculated rashly.” The subordinate in black lowered his head even further, clearly fearful of Long Qing’er. After all, even those familiar with her understood that Princess Long Qing’er, daughter of the Golden Age Dynasty’s Emperor, despite being female, was far from ordinary.
She might even change the patriarchal issue and become a true empress.
“No, follow her. I don’t know why, but whenever I see her, I have this unfamiliar feeling, and I just can’t shake off my concern.” Long Qing’er agreed to her subordinate’s request, watching as the dark figure flashed by before quickly stepping onto her jade flute and departing.
A gentle breeze brushed by, causing her veil to flutter, revealing Long Qing’er’s stunning golden age beauty. Moonlight seemed to falter in the presence of such radiance, scattering amidst the clouds in disarray. Yet, on this particular night, no one was there to admire her beauty…
The night grew late, and Ye Wenxin, now settled in the inn, reverted to her original appearance. Clad in crimson attire, her voluptuous figure was irresistible, her eyes filled with myriad charms. She sipped her wine, her movements seemingly ordinary but bewitching.
She was the leader of the demon cultivators, Demon Lord Gu Qingcheng, a woman whose presence was as unforgettable as the name she bore.
“Stupid female lead, even trying to meet you once is so exhausting. Later, I’ll just get rid of the male lead, and then you’ll be all alone!”
Despite being such an elegant woman, she spoke gibberish that no one in this world could understand, throwing curses at Fairy Fengya. As she drank and cursed, she eventually fell asleep, swaying and collapsing onto the bed…
A dreamless night passed, and Ye Wenxin woke up feeling refreshed. She dispersed the remaining alcohol fumes and transformed back into the girl of twelve or thirteen.
“By the way, was there an earthquake last night?”
“Yeah, I felt it too. I thought it was just because I drank too much.”
In the early morning, people discussed last night’s earthquake, unaware that it was caused by Ye Wenxin’s power leaking out during her drunken rampage.
Ye Wenxin felt rather embarrassed, feigning indifference on the matter.
In this world, alcohol had a beneficial effect on cultivation, especially for individuals like Ye Wenxin with an Iceborn constitution, as it could enhance her resistance. However, the downside was that due to her unique constitution, she must become intoxicated for it to take effect.
“Yesterday, it sounded like someone was cursing some stupid sow, I haven’t a clue what that woman was up to!”
In the inn, groups of people sat together, continuously grumbling about what they had heard.
The innkeeper could only apologize and then promptly served each table a basket of soup dumplings. The group of people finally fell silent and started eating. Ye Wenxin breathed a sigh of relief, but then she noticed the innkeeper looking at her with deep resentment, as if he had already figured out that she was the one who went on a drunken rampage last night.
In that moment, Ye Wenxin began to miss the time when she was still the Demon Lord. At least back then, her drunken antics would not have led to the whole inn becoming aware of her outbursts or the fact that she would curse at people.
