Chapter 756: Out of the Dragon(Long)’s Pool and Into the ??
“Gui Gui.”
Ghost Mother made her grand entrance. An umbrella and a sword clashed in midair. The familiar scene made Ye Wenxin suspect Long Qingyue must have said something unnecessary to Liu Churan. So, Liu Churan came to bother her again.
“Palace Master Liu, stop burning bridges.” Ye Wenxin voiced her displeasure. “I haven’t begun my training, and you’re already holding me back. Don’t you think that’s a bit too cruel?”
If she had known, she would have used the conspicuous Phoenix Fire from the start over the land route via a comfy furball.
“Hold you back?” replied Liu Churan, now more sober. “I think you’re mistaken, Cultivator Ye. I have nothing to do with this. My subordinates must have acted on their own.”
She took another sip of spirit wine.
“Everyone knows you’re merciless and uncordial, Palace Master Liu,” said Ye Wenxin. “How are your subordinates still alive if they had acted without your orders? You would have killed them long ago.”
Knowing Liu Churan’s nature, she was convinced Liu Churan had a reason for seeking her out. So, Liu Churan had sent the twin Saintesses to capture her.
Liu Churan paused in her drinking. A melancholic expression crossed her face. “Am I really as merciless as you think?”
Jin Xiaoqin’s words surfaced in Ye Wenxin’s mind. She should seriously discuss Gu Qingcheng with Liu Churan. Her obsession had gone too deep. And Ye Wenxin’s recent actions had probably given her such a shock that she was now using alcohol to numb herself.
“Well, aren’t you?” Ye Wenxin retorted. Liu Churan giggled again.
The twins arrived to capture Ye Wenxin. However, they immediately kneeled upon seeing Liu Churan.
“Palace Master.”
“What are you doing, capturing Cultivator Ye?” questioned Liu Churan. Although her voice remained as lazy as ever, a dangerous edge lay beneath.
The Saintesses stayed kneeling, not daring to breathe a word. They appeared deeply fearful of Liu Churan.
One of Liu Churan’s many talents was in training her disciples well. Ye Wenxin watched the interaction between the three.
“Enough.” Liu Churan waved her hand dismissively. “You two personally escort Cultivator Ye out.”
Her decision stunned Ye Wenxin and the twins. Perhaps because they had never seen such a gentle side of Liu Churan, they couldn’t help but doubt their ears.
“What are you waiting for? Go,” Liu Churan added. She sipped some more wine, seemingly determined to drink herself to oblivion for now.
Ye Wenxin’s brows subtly knit together. Liu Churan’s behavior resembled that of a heartbroken woman. It differed from what she had imagined. Her self-destructive attitude worried Ye Wenxin more than her throwing a tantrum.
Decades of a mother-daughter bond couldn’t be severed just like that. Ye Wenxin reflected on all the mistakes she had made. Could she still do something to make amends and stop Liu Churan from being as obsessive as before?
Various thoughts swirled in her mind.
The Saintesses didn’t dare go against Liu Churan’s wishes. They beckoned Ye Wenxin to leave with them. Ye Wenxin paused, then looked back at Liu Churan.
“Palace Master Liu, what are your plans from here on out?”
Liu Churan lifted her alluring eyes. She gave a confused hum, not understanding why Ye Wenxin had suddenly asked her that question.
“I mean, where are you heading? I’m worried Fairy Caihong might come after me.” Ye Wenxin presented her best excuse. “So, I thought of traveling with you. You know she’s not likely to let me off the hook for killing the man-eater.”
Fairy Caihong, under the Heart Devouring Powder’s effect back at the Azure Wings Sect, might’ve never imagined she would serve the greatest use as a decoy.
Liu Churan’s expression changed upon the mention of Fairy Caihong. She looked like a hungry beast sharpening her claws. Her eyes cleared, and she smiled prettily. “Oh, right. How could I forget?”
She sounded excited. Yet, Ye Wenxin couldn’t shake the ominous feeling settling in her chest.
“Palace Master Liu, what do you mean by that?” Ye Wenxin couldn’t help but ask. She hoped Liu Churan wasn’t thinking something as dangerous as the thoughts racing through her mind.
The previously despondent Liu Churan stood up. The cloak draped over her shoulders slid halfway off, revealing more of her graceful form.
Sadly for her, Ye Wenxin had no interest in admiring her beauty. And, as luck would have it, her words had inspired Liu Churan to come up with some foolish idea.
“Cultivator Ye.” Liu Churan leaned in. “Where are you planning to go?”
Ye Wenxin shuddered at the sensation of buns pressing against her. Despite her licentious appearance, Liu Churan was still quite pure. However, when she seduced her to such an extent, it warned Ye Wenxin that an even greater danger loomed overhead.
“What’s the matter? Afraid I’ll eat you?” Liu Churan’s fingers lifted Ye Wenxin’s chin. “My Wind and Moon Palace may not be a righteous sect, but we’re still capable of protecting someone.”
Ye Wenxin had already foreseen this outcome. She originally planned to talk things over with Liu Churan on the way. However, seeing Liu Churan so enthusiastic made her regret it somewhat.
The twin Saintesses appeared surprised and delighted. They hurriedly urged, “Young Mistress, aren’t you going to thank the Palace Master?”
No matter how thick-skinned Ye Wenxin was, she couldn’t bring herself to say “thank you”. Liu Churan knew her so well. The longer they stayed together, the more likely she would slip up.
Ye Wenxin reluctantly said, “Palace Master Liu, you really don’t need to go to such trouble.”
“It’s no trouble at all.” Liu Churan continued cozying up to her. “You are my Lord’s heiress. By seniority, I’m your elder sister. You can call me ‘sister’ if you don’t mind.”
Ye Wenxin could already imagine Liu Churan’s plan unfolding.
“But Palace Master Liu, I’m not the Demon Lord’s child.”
“I know,” Liu Churan reassured her. “You’re worried my Lord’s enemies will find out. So you refuse to admit it. Relax. I’ve already issued a gag order to everyone in the know. No one will leak it.”
Liu Churan’s current gentleness scared Ye Wenxin. She couldn’t help but wonder if Long Qingyue had instilled strange notions in Liu Churan’s mind during their talk.
