Chapter 89: A Wholehearted Kiss (Ninth Update)
“Who ambushed us!”
“Oh heavens, I can’t move anymore.”
Hearing the panicking Dao couples, Xiao Zhang pulled Ye Wenxin and bolted.
“Gods…this is my first time doing something so unethical.”
“Speak for yourself. I’m just a child.” Ye Wenxin shot a blank look at Xiao Zhang. Thankfully it was dark enough over there. If those disciples found out about their actions, Xiao Zhang could easily escape, but Ye Wenxin would have a hard time.
“But you were throwing them more actively than me.” Xiao Zhang blinked, as if her inherent wicked nature had been unleashed, and all the recent troubles had vanished along with the Paralysis Powder.
Ye Wenxin smiled without replying, feeling relieved indeed. She sat down under a tree, gazing at the bright moon before her. Even Xiao Zhang looked impossibly beautiful.
“Why are you staring at me like that?” Xiao Zhang noticed Ye Wenxin staring at her, took out a handkerchief to wipe the sweat from her own forehead. She had wanted to leave Ye Wenxin with the best impression, but now it was all ruined.
She wiped the sweat from her forehead clean, only to see Ye Wenxin preparing to wipe her sweat with her sleeve. Xiao Zhang immediately stopped her.
“You silly child, don’t you know to have a handkerchief ready? Wiping with your sleeve, what does that look like?” Xiao Zhang, feeling helpless, was about to use her own handkerchief to wipe it off, but then remembered she had just used it.
As Ye Wenxin wondered what Xiao Zhang was about to do, Xiao Zhang unexpectedly pulled up her own sleeve and used it to wipe the sweat from the girl’s forehead.
“Xiao Zhang, why do you always say one thing and do another?” This action was even more intimate than what Huang Hanyan did last time. Moreover, she sat on Ye Wenxin’s lap.
She did not apply any force, but the posture felt somewhat dangerous.
“Hmm, am I really like that?” Xiao Zhang’s mood improved, wiping carefully.
The forehead, and then the cheeks; her gaze carried a hint of heat.
“I still haven’t wiped this spot clean.” She did not answer the question, instead pointing to another area. Her lips drew closer, finally landing at the corner of Ye Wenxin’s mouth.
The movement was swift, and after it was done, she still watched Ye Wenxin’s reaction, fearing that her actions might disgust Ye Wenxin.
“Xiao Zhang, you really don’t need me to turn into Ye Liangchen? I think you’re about to devour me.” Ye Wenxin half-jokingly remarked. Xiao Zhang suddenly realized and, her face already flushed from exercise, now turned even redder.
“No, this is fine.” Xiao Zhang breathed a sigh of relief, but she did not lower her head, staring straight at Ye Wenxin.
However, Ye Wenxin knew that this was already the extent of what Xiao Zhang dared to do to her. Yet, Ye Wenxin still felt a bit worried, her gaze scanning the surroundings, afraid that Xiao Zhang might conjure up an Immortal Sealing Ring to bind her.
Perhaps because the unease on Ye Wenxin’s face was too apparent, Xiao Zhang clarified her reason for doing this.
“Wenxin, I’m really sorry I can’t stay with you, but I swear, I’ll be yours. So, I’m leaving you my first kiss.”
Ye Wenxin finally understood the meaning behind the kiss. Given Xiao Zhang’s innocent nature, this was probably the furthest she could go.
“Alright, I don’t blame you. If you say anything, I won’t let you go.” The conversation returned to sadness, but Ye Wenxin’s frustration disappeared because of the preciousness of this kiss.
Unlike other kisses, this one represented Xiao Zhang’s loyalty.
Offering her all, it was a foolish yet touching gesture that made Ye Wenxin unable to be angry, unable to harbor any resentment towards such a woman.
“Come on, don’t look so sad, or else others will think I’ve bullied you. Go back and rest early. You’re leaving tomorrow morning, right?” Ye Wenxin gently pushed Xiao Zhang, not wanting to reveal more sadness.
“Yes, I am. Will… will you come to see me off?” Xiao Zhang nodded, finding Ye Wenxin’s lack of tears or fuss, even her calm demeanor, incredible.
It made Xiao Zhang wonder if Ye Wenxin actually did not care about her at all. Her demand was not big, she only wanted a small corner.
Yet, it seemed she had not even occupied a tiny spot.
“I’m not very good at goodbyes.” Ye Wenxin’s voice lowered, her head hanging down.
Because she was not good at goodbyes, often times, it was only farewell, an unchangeable law.
Xiao Zhang’s heart suddenly ached. As if determined, she embraced Ye Wenxin tightly once again.
“Wenxin, I’ll come back for you. When that time comes, if you’ve grown up, I can fully belong to you.” Xiao Zhang could no longer hold back. She hugged Ye Wenxin tightly, hoping to lessen the sadness in Ye Wenxin’s expression.
“It’s fine, I’m used to it.” Ye Wenxin did not take it seriously. Everyone she had ever met liked to say that, but not a single person truly came back to her side.
Feeling somewhat uncomfortable, Ye Wenxin continued, “I’m feeling a bit tired. I’ll wish you a safe journey in advance. I’m going back to sleep.” She waved her hand and quickly disappeared.
Xiao Zhang stood still, knowing that her indecision had hurt Ye Wenxin. After a moment of contemplation, she raised a single hand and solemnly declared, “When you turn eighteen, I will dedicate everything to you. I, Zhang Qianqian, swear in the name of the God of War.”
The God of War was the protector deity of the Golden Age Dynasty and also Xiao Zhang’s favorite hero.
As she spoke, a purple lightning bolt descended from the sky, leaving a red mark on Xiao Zhang’s forehead. This mark represented the commitment of a Blood Oath, and if it could not be fulfilled, divine punishment would ensue.
Unfortunately, Ye Wenxin was unaware of the Blood Oath Xiao Zhang had made.
She was not mourning Xiao Zhang’s departure, but rather, it stirred up memories of many forgotten events. If she had known about the flags Xiao Zhang left before running away, or about her willingness to make such a commitment, she might have been infuriated to the point of Qi Deviation.
But fortunately, Ye Wenxin was still unaware that she had inadvertently entered Xiao Zhang’s route and persuaded her to voluntarily make a Blood Oath. Returning to her dormitory, her mood had improved significantly.
Baili Mu’s attitude had also improved a lot. Seeing Ye Wenxin return, she greeted her.
“You’re back.”
“Mhm.”
“Xiao Zhang came to see you just now,” Baili Mu kindly reminded, hesitating as if wanting to ask something but feeling embarrassed to do so.
“I ran into her,” Ye Wenxin responded. She also took out a medical book from her bag of holding, planning to lose herself in the book’s contents. However, Baili Mu could not help but watch Ye Wenxin reading the book.
“Whatever you want to ask, just ask.” Ye Wenxin felt speechless, suddenly missing the previous Baili Mu, who at least did not behave so awkwardly.
“Well, your brother… Why haven’t I seen him around lately?” Baili Mu spoke with the tender gaze of a lovesick maiden, but directed it towards ‘Ye Liangchen,’ a person who did not exist at all.
“My brother went down the mountain for training. He probably won’t be back for a few years,” Ye Wenxin continued to fabricate. However, according to the Azure Wings Sect’s rule, one could go down the mountain for field training after three years of cultivation or upon reaching the Foundation Establishment stage.
Furthermore, the cultivation was compulsory, and whether one could survive field training or become a dominant figure depended on individual abilities.
“No wonder… I thought…” Baili Mu heaved a sigh of relief, but Ye Wenxin sensed there was more to her words and could not help but give her a few more glances.
“You thought what?” Baili Mu blushed, realizing she was talking to Ye Wenxin, she hesitated and said, “I thought your brother went with Xiao Zhang.”
Ye Wenxin was taken aback. She had not expected Xiao Zhang to also tell Baili Mu about her departure.
“Don’t overthink it. I don’t like your brother. I just…” Baili Mu started explaining in a fluster after realizing she had said too much, but Ye Wenxin did not care.
Well, Ye Liangchen did not exist anyway, but thinking that unrequited was still too pitiful, Ye Wenxin kindly reminded, “I understand. I didn’t think much about it. It’s just that my brother already has a fiancee, and they are very much in love. He has no intention of finding a mistress.”
Baili Mu’s face suddenly turned ugly again, and she could only force out a smile uglier than tears.
Ye Wenxin realized she had spoken too bluntly again, but this kind of ambiguity was still best avoided. The longer it lasted, the deeper the hurt.
However, when she thought of Xiao Zhang, she still felt upset. The more she mused, the more unreadable the book became, so she lay down quietly and fell asleep in bed. When the lights went out, she seemed to hear crying coming from Baili Mu’s direction.
A maiden’s complicated heart, and such complicated love, Ye Wenxin hoped she would never experience them herself……
As night left, morning came, and yesterday’s events seemed like a nightmare.
“Big sister, you’re really not going to see off Sister-in-law?”
“Yeah, maybe if you cry and beg her, she won’t leave.”
Seeing Ye Wenxin still lying in bed, the little brothers wished they could just carry her away along with the bed. But Ye Wenxin remained unmoved, her expression as indifferent as ever.
“You bunch of white-eyed wolves (ingrates)! Am I your boss or is Xiao Zhang your boss? You want me to cry and beg her? Even if I, Ye Wenxin, sleep all day, I’ll never go see off Xiao Zhang!” Ye Wenxin vowed solemnly, and seeing her serious expression, the others did not say anything more and quickly disappeared.
Ye Wenxin lazily lay in bed, but her gaze was fixed in the direction of the Azure Wings Sect’s entrance.
After parting today, she wondered if they would ever meet again in this lifetime.
She sighed again, intending to continue huddling under the blankets. However, she saw the little brothers who had just left rushing back, carrying ropes and saws in their hands.
“What are you guys doing! Are you rebelling?!” Ye Wenxin’s face turned even uglier. She felt that she had been too kind; these little brothers didn not regard her as their Big Sister at all.
“Big Sister, we can’t let this be.”
“Yeah, let’s talk to Sister-in-law first. Maybe things can still turn around!”
“Right, don’t be emotional. Big Sister, Sister-in-law is really a good woman.”
