Release the Female Lead, Leave Her to Me
Release the Female Lead Ch. 910

Chapter 910: This Ice-Cold Beauty is Slightly Impressive

White was intelligent even without fusing with the others. After hearing the storyteller’s words, she immediately bared her teeth at Ghost Mother, almost snarling.

“Sorry, White also doesn’t like anyone prettier than her…” Ye Wenxin hurried to explain. Yet, as the words left her mouth, it sounded like she was telling everyone she wasn’t pretty in White’s eyes.

The storyteller struggled to hold back his laughter while Fei Chai, noticing that Ghost Mother seemed a little upset, quickly added, “Miss Gu, don’t be sad. I have a demonic beast, too.”

Ghost Mother wasn’t angry. She was only itching to charge over and tear that white furball apart! Fei Chai’s words piqued her curiosity, and she asked, “Oh? What kind of demonic beast do you have, Young Master Fei Chai?”

Fei Chai scratched his head awkwardly. He touched his spirit pet ring, and a black-and-white fish appeared.

It had the classic dead-fish eyes, staring blankly at the crowd with a look that screamed, ‘I’ve given up on life.’

It was Ye Wenxin’s first time seeing someone keep that kind of fish as a pet.

The black-and-white fish, however, seemed quite pleased with itself. With a few flicks of its tail, it suddenly leaped up—

—and smacked Fei Chai across the face with a flurry of tail slaps.

“Meow, meow, meow.” White was a feline-type demonic beast (more or less). Her eyes lit up upon seeing a fish, and her paws twitched with excitement.

“This is a flying fish. I found it in my hometown. It’s—ah!” Before Fei Chai could finish, White had already pounced, planning to swallow the thing whole.

Fei Chai rushed to intervene, and luckily for him, White hated strangers touching her. When she saw him rushing over, she dodged on instinct.

The flying fish seemed to be processing what just happened. Its lips twitched a few times as if suddenly waking up—then it leaped up and gave Fei Chai another slap combo.

The smacking left Fei Chai dizzy and dazed, yet he still clutched the fish and grinned like an idiot.

“Don’t be afraid, Xiao Fei,” he reassured it. “Big brother’s here to protect you.” (Fei – the fly in flying fish)

The flying fish understood him somehow and finally settled down. Its mouth opened and closed a few times, but no one could tell what it was trying to say.

White grew more intrigued. She licked her paw and began circling like a predator on the hunt. Ye Wenxin had the distinct feeling that if she looked away for even a second, White would pounce on the fish.

She quickly pulled the furball over and commanded, “White, puff up.”

White meowed, and her body instantly began to swell like cotton. Ye Wenxin jumped on top, finding the size comfortable for lying down.

“Good girl.” Ye Wenxin gently patted White on the head. The furball produced a low purring sound and shot a meaningful glance at Ghost Mother.

Provoked, Ghost Mother itched to strike back.

Just then, the two men who had no idea she was a ghost, spoke.

“Brother Fei, is it just me or has it suddenly gotten a bit cold?”

“Probably because of Master,” Fei Chai whispered to the storyteller. “She practices an ice-based cultivation method. Let’s keep our distance.”

The storyteller glanced at Han Shanxue and nodded in sudden understanding.

Ye Wenxin didn’t point anything out.

Ghost Mother noticed everyone was settling down to rest. She looked at Han Shanxue, then Ye Wenxin, biting her lip slightly. In the end, she walked toward Ye Wenxin.

Ye Wenxin wasn’t too pleased by the look on her face. She was, after all, notorious for her wicked deeds—far more dangerous than some ice-cold beauty. And yet, Ghost Mother approached her even after weighing all options.

It made Ye Wenxin feel like her lessons in discipline weren’t working. Ghost Mother not only didn’t fear her—she seemed determined to test fate every day.

“Miss Ye, may I borrow a blanket?” Ghost Mother put on a pitiful expression. She tried to avoid revealing her race by asking Ye Wenxin for something.

“Sure, I’ve got White to keep me warm anyway.” Ye Wenxin gave no fuss.

She pulled a cashmere blanket from her bag of holding, but when she glanced back at Ghost Mother, something in her expression seemed… off.

Ghost Mother immediately turned around and walked toward Fei Chai.

Ye Wenxin was baffled but then noticed the expression on White’s face, which seemed to be telling her she had said something insensitive.

Ye Wenxin mentally reviewed her words but couldn’t figure out what she’d said wrong.

After thinking it over, Ye Wenxin decided Ghost Mother’s evolution might have made her more moody than before. So she lay back down on White, watching Ghost Mother interact with the two men.

Originally, Ghost Mother had only intended to borrow a blanket and casually play along. However, when she caught a whiff of something suspicious on those blankets, she refused.

Ye Wenxin started to wonder if Ghost Mother might ask Han Shanxue. She did walk in her direction—

—only to make a sharp detour halfway through, avoiding any contact.

Meanwhile, Han Shanxue had already closed her eyes and begun meditating to restore her energy. Her clothes were clean and simple, with no excess ornaments. She looked almost destitute.

Ye Wenxin couldn’t tell what Han Shanxue’s cultivation level was, at least not yet. But something convinced her this woman was powerful.

……

The night deepened. The storyteller and Fei Chai had already fallen asleep. Ghost Mother was also resting, her eyes closed, conserving energy.

Only Han Shanxue remained alert, her gaze quietly sweeping the surroundings.

Noticing how tense she was, Ye Wenxin offered, “Miss Han, why don’t you rest for a bit? I’ll keep watch.”

She couldn’t quite understand what drove the woman’s constant edge. Was she carrying some rare treasure? Or was it just her personality—a warrior ready for battle at any moment?

Han Shanxue heard her and glanced over, but she didn’t respond. She just straightened her posture, intent on keeping watch until morning.

Now that Ye Wenxin thought about it, they hadn’t exactly reached a point of mutual trust yet. It made sense for Han Shanxue to remain wary.

So she didn’t insist. She hopped off the white furball and headed toward Ghost Mother.

Ghost Mother’s breathing was steady. She really did seem to be asleep. Today’s evolution must’ve worn her out.

But she was still a troublesome little firecracker, never willing to admit weakness.

Ye Wenxin quietly took the blanket back out and gently draped it over her.

Sensing the familiar warmth, Ghost Mother instinctively leaned toward Ye Wenxin.

Han Shanxue’s gaze shifted over. There was no change in her expression. Her cold eyes remained calm and unreadable. However, the surrounding air noticeably dropped in temperature. It was likely a side effect of her cultivation method.

Ye Wenxin figured Han Shanxue must still bore a grudge about her attack on Ghost Mother. Sighing, she lightly nudged Ghost Mother away before wrapping the blanket more neatly around her. The thoughtful gesture almost felt out of character for someone like Ye Wenxin.

Once that was done, the chill in the air eased considerably.

Ye Wenxin couldn’t read Han Shanxue at all. She had no clue what the woman was imagining in that head of hers. If she’d known she’d be bumping into a female lead, she would’ve at least prepared a half-decent performance.

But regret was useless now.

She simply got up and pulled out another blanket.

It’s a new female lead. You won’t see Fairy Fengya (Mother of Heaven) in this volume.
