Release the Female Lead Ch. 914

Chapter 914: Where’s That Thieving Cat!?

The second she spoke those words, both ghosts lit up with delight. They paraded out of the room, Ghost Mother in the lead.

The room fell quiet again.

Ye Wenxin loosened her grip on Liuli, giving her enough space to move freely. However, Liuli snuggled even closer, her violet eyes captivating. Still, because she was the fused form of the furballs, Ye Wenxin would never do anything depraved.

“Sleep,” Ye Wenxin said again.

Liuli rubbed against her neck, murmuring, “Master, I can do it, too.”

“…Huh?”

Ye Wenxin was stunned and immediately suspected she’d misunderstood Liuli’s “pure” intentions.

“Master, although I’m still too weak to protect you, I can fulfill your other needs.” The more Liuli spoke, the more serious she became, which shocked Ye Wenxin.

“Um, like what?” she asked for clarification.

Liuli looked happy for a second. Suddenly, she sprouted cat ears and a long tail, now looking like a stereotypical cat girl.

“I’ll let you touch my paw pads,” she offered, using more suggestive words.

But when Liuli stretched out her hand to reveal her white palm, Ye Wenxin knew she had been overthinking it.

After all, a child as innocent as Liuli couldn’t possibly grasp intricate human emotions. Seeing the pure anticipation on her face, Ye Wenxin stroked her cat paw. The claws extended and retracted as she pressed down, adding an odd charm to Liuli in her cat-girl form.

Liuli, however, didn’t seem used to having her paws touched. A feline’s pads were full of sensory receptors. In short, cat paws were very sensitive.

The one place cats were most protective of was their belly. A cat allowing someone to touch its belly meant it trusted them completely.

Ye Wenxin, too riled up to sleep after the two ghosts’ interruption, now faced Liuli’s teasing.

After some thought, she asked if she could touch Liuli’s belly.

As expected, hesitation flickered across Liuli’s eyes. The eight furballs were probably holding an emergency summit in her head.

Ye Wenxin understood upon seeing this. Her bond with Liuli wasn’t quite there yet, so the girl didn’t trust her enough to let her touch such a vulnerable spot.

“It’s not like I have to,” she added quickly. “It just looks like it’d feel soft and nice.”

Ye Wenxin scooched away, pretending not to care, but Liuli grabbed her hand, her expression shy and humanlike.

“I don’t mind if it’s Master.” The eight furballs had reached a consensus and conveyed it through Liuli.

Liuli looked heartbreakingly lovely. Her violet eyes shimmered with a spiritual brilliance no human could ever possess—clear and untainted. A blush dusted her pale cheeks, revealing how unfamiliar and flustering this experience was for her.

Ye Wenxin instantly sensed something was off. “N-no, I was joking!”

Seeing her about to retreat, Liuli panicked. She hadn’t kicked out the two ghosts only for her plan of monopolizing Ye Wenxin’s affections to crumble. In her haste, she gripped Ye Wenxin’s hand.

Then, lips pressed determinedly, Liuli guided Ye Wenxin’s hand onto her belly.

It felt soft and smooth, not much different from a human’s. The distinct part was Liuli trembling like she was enduring extreme torture. Ye Wenxin wanted to pull back her hand, but Liuli hugged her arm and took a deep breath.

Ye Wenxin wondered what she planned to do when Liuli guided her hand downwards, reaching the forest depths.

“Eh? So you’re a white tigress, Liuli,” Ye Wenxin remarked casually before it finally registered in her mind what was happening. “I mean—no! What are you doing, Liuli?!”

Was Liuli imitating what she and the two ghosts had been doing in their “activities”?

“Master, I want—” Liuli looked at Ye Wenxin with dazzling eyes, trying to voice her thoughts. Before she could finish, however, someone kicked the door open.

It was Ghost Mother.

“To hell with what you want!” She gave Liuli a murderous glare. “I knew you were up to no good, you thieving cat!”

Liuli clicked her tongue. Unwilling to back down, she started fighting with Ghost Mother.

Ye Wenxin was a bit confused. Hearing the complaints of other guests, she hurriedly closed the window and separated the fighting children. But the two were still baring their teeth at each other, so Ye Wenxin had to use her strength and knocked Liuli and Ghost Mother out.

“Miss Gu, are you alright?”

“Miss Gu, are you alright!”

The storyteller and Fei Chai’s anxious voices came from outside, asking about Ghost Mother. Ye Wenxin was already used to being ignored by men. She opened the door, adopted a puzzled look, and asked, “What’s the matter?”

“We heard sounds of fighting. Are you all alright?” Fei Chai was the first to ask, uneasily peering into the room. After spotting Ghost Mother and no signs of a struggle, he exhaled, tension leaving his body.

“Probably just some jealous catfight in another room,” Ye Wenxin calmly said. “Better not meddle in other people’s business.”

The two men nodded and returned to their room.

At last, the night quieted down. Looking at Ghost Mother’s sweet, vulnerable face, Ye Wenxin tiptoed back to bed.

The knocked-out Liuli had reverted to the eight furballs. They looked at Ye Wenxin pitifully, seeming genuinely remorseful.

“As long as you know you were wrong. Don’t play that kind of joke on me again.” If Ghost Mother hadn’t come in earlier, Liuli might have seduced Ye Wenxin into doing something deranged.

The furballs nodded in understanding. When they saw Ye Wenxin lift the covers, they cheerfully hopped onto the bed and soon fell asleep. Ye Wenxin stopped fussing over the matter. She was about to slip back into dreamland when a strange noise suddenly entered her ears.

She ground her teeth, frustrated by the high-pitched voice. She knew this inn was shabby, but she hadn’t expected someone to be this disruptive to others’ sleep. However, Ye Wenxin’s hearing was far too sharp to ignore those noises.

She lay in bed dazedly until she couldn’t stand it any longer. Ye Wenxin got up again. She glanced at Ghost Mother and the furballs all curled up together, painting a surprisingly warm and cozy scene. A faint smile tugged at her lips.

She opened the window and climbed onto the roof, immediately catching two familiar figures outside.

Fei Chai and the storyteller were sneaking peeks at something below, unaware of the extra person now on the rooftop. Unlike the excited men, Ye Wenxin found the scene below boring after a few glances.

She looked around for a quieter spot and noticed the window of Han Shanxue’s room was open.
