Chapter 933: Love at First Sight, Trouble to Come
It would’ve been ridiculously easy for her to break free. She was a powerful cultivator, after all. But she seemed to enjoy playing the helpless newbie. Still, it wouldn’t be good if Ghost Mother’s presence became too overwhelming.
Sensing Ye Wenxin’s grip tightening, Ghost Mother realized she was about to lose her temper. But Ye Wenxin couldn’t do anything as long as she avoided being alone with her and that other person. She appealed to the two onlookers for help.
“Brother Mei, Young Master Fei—save me!”
The men finally snapped out of their daze. They stepped forward, only for Ye Wenxin to shoot them a sharp glare.
“What bodyguard looks prettier than the employer’s sweetheart? If you walk around Young Master Lü like this, he’ll probably forget who he’s supposed to be in love with! So! You must wear men’s clothing and look unattractive.”
Ye Wenxin’s tone was non-negotiable. She felt frustrated with Ghost Mother’s aversion to looking anything less than gorgeous.
Yet, Ghost Mother refused to return to the umbrella sword. She’d fallen in love with this unrestrained freedom. If Ye Wenxin hadn’t been reminding herself totreat Ghost Mother better, she would’ve already kicked everyone out and given her a proper beating.
Ghost Mother sobbed. “No! I want to be pretty! Save me…” She looked desperately at the storyteller and Fei Chai. After getting the full context, they must admit Ye Wenxin had a point.
“Miss Gu, good luck!”
“Master, let’s go have breakfast downstairs!”
The two immediately made their final decision and left the room.
When the door clicked shut, Ghost Mother’s eyes flashed green, but Ye Wenxin was much faster. She subdued Ghost Mother, firmly restraining her four limbs.
“If you don’t behave, I will get rough,” Ye Wenxin warned.
That only excited Ghost Mother, and she struggled even more. Ye Wenxin had been unusually gentle lately, which made her miss what they once had.
She silently screamed for Ye Wenxin to punish her harder, and Ye Wenxin didn’t disappoint.
She ripped Ghost Mother’s clothes off and forcibly dressed her in coarse men’s robes, not even glancing at her while doing it. The whole process happened so fast that Ghost Mother wondered if she was having a nightmare.
“All done,” said Ye Wenxin, unaware of Ghost Mother’s feelings. She then smeared some powder on Ghost Mother’s face to darken her skin tone. But Ghost Mother still looked too attractive, so Ye Wenxin thickened her eyebrows and dotted a few pockmarks on her face.
When Ghost Mother glimpsed herself in the mirror, she whimpered, close to tears. Unmoved, Ye Wenxin dragged her downstairs.
The men had dressed up like household servants, while Han Shanxue wore a guard uniform and a mask to conceal her striking face. She looked like a refined, handsome young man.
Only Ghost Mother got such horrible treatment.
“Don’t be mad. Once we finish this job, you’ll have money to buy more clothes,” Ye Wenxin tried to console her when she noticed the deep resentment on her face. Ghost Mother huffed and stomped over to Fei Chai and the storyteller. She wouldn’t be calming down anytime soon.
Ye Wenxin stopped bothering. The group headed out, and Han Shanxue immediately stood out in her attire.
Ye Wenxin wore her usual clothes, knowing how invisible she was to most men.
Young Master Lü’s residence wasn’t far. An incense stick of time later, they arrived at a well-off house. The group glanced at it before heading for the back entrance.
Young Master Lü hired them out of his pocket, so everything had to be kept low-key. They knocked a few times on the back door. It didn’t take him long to come out, accompanied by a young male servant who appeared to be his trusted aide.
“We’ll be heading to Six Academy next,” he said.
“What kind of place is that?” Ye Wenxin asked.
“A gathering place for scholars and beauties,” said Young Master Lü, his eyes full of longing. “I first met her there.”
But Ye Wenxin thought it was nothing more than a battlefield for rich upstarts.
Those with talent or cultivation fight for themselves, while those without sent their servants to fight in their place. Self-proclaimed poets and scholars would crowd the Six Academy when classes were off.
Young Master Lü had decent talent in painting, and he had a few acquaintances at Six Academy, so he often went there.
“Let’s talk about this girl you’re after,” Ye Wenxin finally interjected. Young Master Lü had been rambling endlessly about Six Academy, and she wasn’t interested. So she shifted to a more bearable topic.
“I met her three days ago,” said Young Master Lü.
“Well, that’s quite a long—wait, three days?” Ye Wenxin had been expecting an innocent childhood sweetheart story, not this.
“Yes.” Young Master Lü looked shy as he spoke. “It was love at first sight. I’d never seen her before, so she’s probably some wealthy family’s relative.”
Ye Wenxin figured this was another dramatic plot.
The most dramatic part was that Young Master Lü’s love rival had been his close friend. But their relationship soured ever since he laid eyes on that young lady, and the two had a brawl.
However, the rival came from a powerful family. He beat up all of Young Master Lü’s men, and some of them were still unconscious. So yesterday, Young Master Lü thought of recruiting outside help and ran into Ghost Mother, Fei Chai, and the storyteller.
After hearing this over-the-top beginning and follow-up, Ye Wenxin finally checked Young Master Lü’s luck. He had the most ordinary white-colored luck but with a red speck within. Red was an omen of darkness.
“Are you scared, Miss Ye?” Seeing her odd expression, Young Master Lü assumed his story had frightened her.
“No, love at first sight just seems odd to me,” Ye Wenxin gave a perfunctory excuse. Young Master Lü smiled brightly at her.
“You’ll understand when you see her. She is a celestial beauty,” Young Master Lü continued to praise the girl he admired. Ye Wenxin brushed it off as a case of beauty in the eye of the beholder.
But something seemed off, and she asked, “Young Master Lü, do you not even know her name?”
Young Master Lü looked sheepish. Ye Wenxin was incredulous but still gave a token compliment. “She must be truly stunning.”
She didn’t dare reveal the misfortune coming his way. Young Master Lü’s awkwardness eased, and he began chattering about the young lady’s breathtaking beauty, exceptional talent, and how she had already bested four great scholars in the few days she’d been in the academy.
