Chapter 95: Ling Jue’s Jealousy
When Ling Jue heard the attendant stammering out an excuse, she showed a wary expression and asked the identity of the note’s sender. But before she could ask a few questions, Ye Wenxin already opened the letter.
“Little Sister Wenxin, you…” Ling Jue could not laugh or cry; Ye Wenxin’s approach was too bold.
If the other party had the intention to conspire murder, even a note could be daubed with poison. A light dose would rot the skin, a severe dose would make Ye Wenxin die of poisoning after inhaling the peculiar scent; but now, Ye Wenxin confidently opened the note.
“Don’t worry, there’s no poison, I’ve already tested it.” Ye Wenxin paid it no mind. Before, she would be a bit worried, but as she became increasingly proficient in medical skills, she was naturally not afraid of some little trick at all.
Recalling Ye Wenxin’s Soul Suppressing Eighteen Needles, Ling Jue stopped speaking against it, stared at that note, only to see several crooked words written on it.
[The three have been released, remember to be careful.]
With just nine words, Ye Wenxin made a slight connection, and then knew exactly who gave her this note.
“Looks like things have taken a troublesome turn. Those three lechers from yesterday have been released.” The constable must have sent this note. She had figured these three would be released, but not this soon.
“Then what should we do? Won’t I just be troubling you two?” Luo Miaoyi’s face paled and started to get anxious.
“It’s no bother, these three lechers are yet to pose a threat, and we’ll be hitting the road now.” Ling Jue was not surprised; ever since Ye Wenxin caused trouble yesterday, she had anticipated this outcome.
If the strong were revered outside the immortal sects, it would have already been an established law. Those people dared to be so presumptuous before Luo Miaoyi, so of course they had some backing and means.
Although Ling Jue had no good opinion on Luo Miaoyi, she was not willing to let Luo Miaoyi be ruined for nothing. The best way now was to hit the road as soon as possible, cross the woods ahead, and reach the nearest and biggest city.
As long as they reached that side, in light of Luo Miaoyi’s financial resources, she could also hire some cultivators to get through this crisis.
Ye Wenxin’s idea was not much different from Ling Jue’s, but yesterday’s factors of disquiet still had her somewhat worried. As she was pretending to be an ordinary person, she naturally could not reveal her true strength in front of Ling Jue.
Once she took the wrong step, everything would be lost.
And now, silver needles had become Ye Wenxin’s most powerful weapons, she must give her best effort to strive reaching the boundary of the Soul Suppressing Eighteen Needles as soon as possible.
Realizing the change in situation, the three women ate breakfast, purchased some rations, and rented two horses.
Ye Wenxin wanted her own horse at first, however, Ling Jue denied her, reasoning she was too young.
“Speaking of which, how old are you this year, Miss Ye?”
“Me? I’m sixteen.” Ye Wenxin blinked innocently. She had completely raised her height, and in order to not make her face look out of place, she also did some slight changes to her outward appearance.
Needless to say, if others were to check Ye Wenxin’s foundation, they would find her foundation to only be around fourteen years of age.
This was the Bone-shrinking Technique’s unique aspect, unattainable even by the Yin-Yang Transformation and this world’s other transformation techniques, letting Ye Wenxin act young in a matter-of-fact manner.
“……”
Ling Jue listened silently, wanting to debunk Ye Wenxin’s lie, but figured the age increase had no harm, at least sixteen was already a marriageable age. Yet, why would Ye Wenxin suddenly lie?
Ling Jue had other ideas in mind, getting more anxious as she mulled it over, fearing that Ye Wenxin had her first awakening of love, and the person she liked was not Ling Jue.
“Miss Luo, you must be tired, let me look after Wenxin.” What most infuriated Ling Jue was that she knew not what nerve of Luo Miaoyi was out of whack, as it was clearly her Ye Wenxin, but Luo Miaoyi kept borrowing this ‘difference between men and women’ matter to separate them.
There was a moment, where Ling Jue considered undoing the Yin-Yang Transformation and tell Luo Miaoyi that she was a woman too. But thinking about her suffering in silence for so many years, she could only resort to other methods to try snatching Ye Wenxin back.
“You can’t, Miss Ye is sixteen, you two can’t be that close.” Luo Miaoyi obstinately shook her head. The more she thought on it, the more she felt that Ling Jue had a suspicious relationship with Ye Wenxin.
But she dared not say, scared that if she spoke up, it would shatter her last fantasy.
“Little Sister Wenxin is actually my…” Ling Jue trailed off. Just because she had good temper did not mean she was a pushover. Seeing Luo Miaoyi intentionally targeting her, Ling Jue planned on arranging for Ye Wenxin a proper and unquestionable identity.
But just as she was about to say this, she thought of something, and her voice lowered.
“Never mind, just take Little Sister Wenxin with you. But you have to take good care of her.” Ling Jue seemed to have noticed something, her usually tender eyes suddenly sharpening.
Ye Wenxin had long noticed the number of people hiding in the surroundings, probably over a dozen, their martial arts by no means high; Ling Jue alone could easily handle them.
Yet very quickly, Ye Wenxin perceived another power on an entirely different level than the dozen or so people. That gaze reminded Ye Wenxin immediately of yesterday’s ill-intentioned gaze.
The dozen or so people increased to more than thirty; although Ling Jue was an Alchemy expert, her cultivation could only be considered as average among cultivators. If she exchanged blows with those people, it would certainly bode ill for her.
Ling Jue, seeming to also sense the change in the atmosphere, sighed, and continued saying, “If you all are targeting a certain Ling, I hope you could let the two ladies go.”
She said this to the empty woods, originally intended for those from Tower of Unfettered Dreams to hear, but who could have thought that Xun Lezhi and his gang would be the ones to come out first.
They walked with strange postures, hatred evident in their eyes.
“Pah! Don’t think just because you’re born handsome we’d be interested in you. I, your father (slang), am after these two ladies. I’ll have you quartered first, and then kill those two!” Xun Lezhi gave an order, prompting the dozen or so lackeys to rush toward Ling Jue.
Luo Miaoyi protected Ye Wenxin like a mother hen protecting her chicks. Ling Jue unfolded the fan in her hand, sighed, and then the giant fan left her hand, deftly smashing into the men’s faces.
In just one light hit, one man was flipped back uncontrollably. This battle was fought easily, and after the men had all fallen, it was then that they realized they had not even touched Ling Jue’s clothes.
They lay on the ground, crying out in pain. Ling Jue did not intend on killing them, approached Ye Wenxin a few paces, when a Tower assassin fell from the sky, killing those people directly.
“You’re all from Tower of Unfettered Dreams.” A dozen and more of them all wore black clothes, their cultivation around the Golden Core stage.
Ling Jue was also at Golden Core; however, she was at fifth-stage Golden Core.
Even though she was able to take on one Golden Core opponent with ease and skill, faced with this many of them, the battlefield situation would instantly be one-sided. But she also got the picture of how much importance Tower of Unfettered Dreams attached to this mission.
“Young Master Ling’s Mountain River Fan is truly deserving of its name, pity that after today, there would no longer be a Peerless Gentleman in this world,” the leader spoke sarcastically, as if he did not even take Medicine King Valley behind Ling Jue seriously.
Maybe it was also due to Ling Jue appearing alone in a small place like this that gave them an opportunity they could exploit.
Ling Jue gave a light smile, beckoning with a gesture of her hand,”Then you may give it a try.” Her bearing was graceful, her eyes brimming with cool self-confidence.
This kind of self-confidence made the Tower people a little hesitant, feeling it was a bluff.
Ling Jue, as the Junior Valley Master of Medicine King Valley, had countless rumors of her fame during her youth. Tower of Unfettered Dreams sent out this many elites out of fear, and even the leader was one of the Tower’s top ten assassins.
With such a heavy expenditure, yet upon seeing Ling Jue’s unhurried demeanor, they dared not to take her lightly.
But in fact, alarm bells had long been ringing in Ling Jue’s mind. She knew how unlucky she was, even so, she did not fear death.
“I’m going to draw their attention. You take Wenxin and leave quickly. Give this token to the Alchemy Association, they’ll understand what happened.” Ling Jue took out a sign from her bosom, swiftly handing it to Ye Wenxin.
This was a token symbolizing the rank of Medicine King Valley’s Junior Valley Master, if Ling Jue really died here, then that token should be returned.
Ling Jue behaved very calmly, but she could see the reluctance in Ye Wenxin’s eyes.
It was supposed to be a pleasant travel, yet they all seemed to have greatly underestimated the risks of this journey. In order to be together with Ye Wenxin, Ling Jue even dismissed her subordinates; she did not think it would come to such a conclusion.
“Brother, I’m not going.” Ye Wenxin could see Ling Jue’s determination; if they were to part ways here, they would definitely be separated by Yin and Yang. Matters within the Martial World were unpredictable affairs of life; no one had a way of knowing their fate in the next moment.
Ye Wenxin was unwilling to leave, she would rather expose her cultivation in exchange for Ling Jue’s life. Even if she and Ling Jue could no longer go back to the way they were after all of this were said and done.
“Be obedient, Wenxin.” Ling Jue emphasized further. That Tower of Unfettered Dreams group had already sensed the peculiarity, gradually surrounding them.
“Even if we escape, we can’t outrun them anyway. In that case, it’s better to fight to the death,” Ye Wenxin also replied very calmly. She fished out a silver needle kit, intending to thoroughly try the joy of killing people with silver needles.
“Fine…” Ling Jue was taken aback, and then displayed a smile.
Perhaps it was because Ye Wenxin’s simple words had persuaded her, or perhaps, compared to the agony of living, following Ye Wenxin to the Yellow Springs (underworld) seemed easier for her.
Regardless of the reason, she chose to follow Ye Wenxin’s lead.
Seeing this scene, Luo Miaoyi felt even more uncomfortable. But considering Ye Wenxin’s willingness to sacrifice herself for Ling Jue, and then looking at her own shallow affection, she gritted her teeth and reluctantly took out her weapon from her bag of holding.
The black whip exuded a strong baleful aura, as if it represented Luo Miaoyi’s identity.
“A whip? Are you from Shura Hall?” Ling Jue was taken aback. When she saw that ominous weapon, she immediately understood that Luo Miaoyi’s identity was not as simple as it seemed on the surface.
Ye Wenxin was even more surprised. She had truly believed that Luo Miaoyi was just a well-mannered young lady, but she had not expected that someone as proper as her would turn out to be from Shura Hall!
