Chapter 955: Leave it to the Grown-Ups
Long Qingyue mocked Ye Wenxin mercilessly, striking directly at her most vulnerable spot.
“Maybe it’s my boundless charm—wait, hey! I don’t have low emotional intelligence!” Ye Wenxin finally reacted, feeling like Long Qingyue had just insulted her.
Without bothering to explain, Long Qingyue pulled her closer. Big Baby grumbled in beast-speak about Ye Wenxin’s calculated push-and-pull act while Ye Wenxin felt wronged. She treated Long Qingyue with 100% respect, so why was Long Qingyue still unhappy?
Ye Wenxin finally decided to be more direct with Long Qingyue.
“Yue’er, I can’t read minds or know what you’re feeling. You have to say it for me to understand.”
“And what will you do once you understand?” Long Qingyue returned.
“It depends on the situation. I still have my principles.” Ye Wenxin added the last bit in case Long Qingyue was about to say something outrageous.
Long Qingyue gave no response. She looked up at what seemed to be a black hole—an unknown anomaly that had begun to devour everything around it.
Although the furballs had cleaned up the evil spirits, they feared the black hole-like ghost.
Not wanting the furballs to get hurt, Ye Wenxin called, “Come back, little ones. Leave the rest to us grown-ups.”
The furballs looked at each other. They wanted to obey, but Big Baby’s condescending glare made them unhappy.
They told Ye Wenxin they wanted to try. They wanted to perform well in Ghost Mother’s absence and become the most important existence to Ye Wenxin.
Ye Wenxin wondered if the furballs had inherited Ghost Mother’s jealousy and competitiveness. As she considered it, they reached the tenth floor. Having no idea what spirits might show up next, Ye Wenxin nodded. “Alright, be careful. Let Liuli out if you have to.”
After receiving the order, the eight furballs disappeared like a flash of light. Then, eight colored silk threads appeared, weaving into a net to catch the ghost.
Unfortunately, the black hole sucked in the silk net, making it impossible to capture it within the space the Colored Flags had created.
That meant the black hole was more likely an alien than a ghost.
Unknown lifeforms with abnormal existence, behavior, and capabilities were classified as aliens. A rumor said that these aliens came from the upper realm, and even one of them could cause global destruction.
Observing this black hole, Ye Wenxin suspected the rumor might be true. Whatever the Treasure Pavilion was hiding had attracted even an alien, which meant it had astronomical value.
Ye Wenxin wouldn’t consider herself the strongest right now. Fairy Fengya stood above her, and Immortal Lord Taohua’s appearance might draw more women from the upper realm.
In that world, Ye Wenxin was at the bottom of the food chain. If she wanted to destroy Immortal Lord Taohua, she would need immense power, even if it meant stealing a female lead’s opportunity and causing her downfall.
Regardless, Ye Wenxin must prioritize her own situation. A flicker of fighting spirit stirred within her.
As these thoughts swirled in her mind, she noticed that Long Qingyue hadn’t moved at all. Long Qingyue watched the furballs with great interest, as if trying to uncover their actions’ true potential and meaning.
After some hesitation, Ye Wenxin revealed a bit about the Colored Flags to Long Qingyue.
“Ah, so the Colored Flags has that kind of function,” Long Qingyue mused. “Too bad facing this alien is slightly draining. How about it? Do you want Big Baby to show you how to deal with these little holes?”
She stroked Big Baby’s head, casually implying she’d already discovered the black hole’s weakness.
Big Baby let out a few meows in agreement, cursing the incompetent furballs. The furballs heard, and Red spat fire toward Big Baby without restraint, trying to provoke her. The sudden temper shift was reminiscent of Long Qingyue’s earlier outburst.
“This isn’t good.” Ye Wenxin didn’t know how many abilities the alien still hadn’t shown them. Worried the furballs were losing their clarity and could no longer tell friend from foe, she shouted, “Transform into Liuli and shake off the mind control!”
Liuli instantly appeared, her violet eyes gleaming with wisdom and her cultivation level a whole stage higher than Big Baby’s. Big Baby was speechless.
Ye Wenxin smugly declared, “Ah, I really didn’t want to use this move. Liuli, you’re a smart kitty. You can take care of this little hole yourself!”
Her taunt was a clear response to Long Qingyue’s mocking comment earlier. Liuli gave Ye Wenxin a brief nod before vanishing.
Eight colored threads appeared in her hands. With a sweep of her arms, she flung them outward, the threads latching onto the black hole and weaving into a cage.
The black hole attempted to devour the threads again. However, four corners of its tangible form had been nailed down, trapping it. No matter how formidable a cultivator might be, they always had hidden weaknesses. The same went for this alien. Liuli pulled on the threads and systematically destroyed the four corners that anchored its physical form.
The black hole produced an agonized screech and spewed objects from its depths. No matter what it did to break free, the threads had it completely immobilized. The cage woven from those threads only tightened further until it sliced the black hole into strips. Then, with a final triple-combo assault of ice, fire, and lightning, Liuli annihilated the alien.
She picked up the massive spirit stone it left behind and flew back to Ye Wenxin.
“Liuli, you’re truly my little cutie.” The entire battle had lasted no more than ten seconds. Ye Wenxin didn’t hold back in praising Liuli for her flawless performance.
“Master, the spirit stone.” Liuli smiled sweetly, delighted by the compliment. Ye Wenxin returned the smile. After cleansing the stone’s impurities, she tucked it into her bag of holding before wrapping Liuli in a hug and kissing her cheek.
Big Baby gave Ye Wenxin a complicated look and then glanced at her own master. “Look at her master. Now look at you…”
Ye Wenxin immediately caught the grievance in Big Baby’s tone. She was curious about how someone as emotionally intelligent as Long Qingyue would handle a jealous pet.
Long Qingyue smiled faintly. “Oh? If you’re feeling left out, how about I have Qingcheng give you a few kisses?”
Big Baby, utterly loyal to Long Qingyue, shook her head furiously at the suggestion.
“In that case, pull yourself together,” Long Qingyue continued, almost like she was brainwashing Big Baby. “Don’t go losing to just any humanoid creature.”
Seemingly inspired by her master’s words, Big Baby transformed into a lightning bolt and charged straight up to the eleventh floor, wiping out the entire level’s evil spirits.
