Chapter 17 – Sheng Qiye Visits Miracle Doctor Hua
Su Rong brought the gemstone and went with Liu Xu to the restaurant. Sheng Qiye and Leng Xiao arrived a little later, having been busy entertaining important guests. To show her gratitude, Su Rong deliberately ordered the most expensive set meal in the restaurant, along with a bottle of red wine.
She lifted her glass respectfully.
“Thank you, President Sheng, Assistant Leng. If it weren’t for you today, I would have been in real danger.”
Her mind replayed the image of Sheng Qiye carrying her out of the black market. He was like a beam of light, pulling her out of the darkness. In that moment, Su Rong regarded him as more than just her savior—he was warmth and hope.
Sheng Qiye only took a polite sip of wine.
Leng Xiao set down his glass and said, “Lai Biao has checked everyone in the black market. The one who knocked you out wasn’t one of them.”
Su Rong drew in a deep breath. After the ordeal, her face was still pale.
“I know who it was.”
Leng Xiao was surprised. “You know?”
Liu Xu quickly asked, “Who was it?”
But Su Rong didn’t want to drag Sheng Qiye and Leng Xiao into her personal matters. This was something she needed to solve herself.
“I’m not completely sure yet. I’ll investigate further.”
Since she insisted, Sheng Qiye did not press the matter.
Su Rong then moved to her true purpose.
“President Sheng, forgive me for inviting you both to dinner tonight. Besides thanking you, I also want to ask for your help. My hand has been injured… I was hoping you could persuade Miracle Doctor Hua to treat me.”
She stood and bowed deeply.
“I know it’s presumptuous, but I have no other way. I can only come to you.”
She carefully presented a wrapped gift box.
“This is something I found today in the black market. It may not be worth much, but it represents my sincerity. Please accept it, President Sheng.”
Sheng Qiye did not take it.
“What makes you think I could persuade Miracle Doctor Hua? And what makes you think I would help you?”
Su Rong stood straight, both hands holding the gift with utmost respect.
“I’ve already gone to him. I stood outside his door the whole day, and in the end, the residential security guards threw me out. If I had another way, I wouldn’t… Please, President Sheng, help me.”
She thought, since Sheng Qiye had agreed to dinner, he must have already guessed what she wanted. Her arms were sore from holding up the box, but she persisted.
“Please, President Sheng!”
After a moment of silence, Sheng Qiye finally took the box and opened it. His eyes lit up.
“Dragon-seed Imperial Green? You found this at the black market today?”
Leng Xiao leaned in, shocked.
“It really is dragon-seed Imperial Green! At least thirty-five carats. Who would’ve thought you could find something like this at a black market?”
They had seen all kinds of treasures before, but finding a gemstone of this caliber there was truly surprising. It seemed Su Rong really did have an extraordinary eye.
Su Rong returned to her seat. She never liked owing anyone.
“I know President Sheng lacks nothing. This is just a token of my sincerity—and proof of how serious I am in asking for help.”
Sheng Qiye closed the box, silent for a moment.
“I can talk to Miracle Doctor Hua for you. But I can’t promise he’ll agree. He’s very stubborn—you’ve already experienced that yourself.”
Given how far Su Rong had gone, it would seem cold-hearted for him to refuse entirely.
“I understand. As long as you’re willing to try, whether it works or not, I’ll be forever grateful.”
She raised her glass again and drained it in one gulp.
Liu Xu smiled.
“That’s wonderful. With President Sheng’s help, it should work out.”
Leng Xiao added a reminder.
“Miracle Doctor Hua charges very high fees. Miss Su, you should be prepared.”
Su Rong didn’t have much money left, but if needed, she could always go back to the black market, find more gemstones, and sell them.
Liu Xu clapped her chest boldly.
“Don’t worry, you have me. As long as he can treat you, no matter how much it costs, I’ll lend you the money.”
Thinking of the black market still made Su Rong uneasy, but she was moved.
“Thank you, Liu Xu.”
“We’re sworn brothers, aren’t we?” Liu Xu said with a grin.
Leng Xiao was curious.
“Miss Su, with your sharp eye for jade, you shouldn’t have money troubles.”
Su Rong gave a modest smile.
“It was just luck…”
Leng Xiao shook his head.
“No, it’s talent. You’re gifted in this field.”
“Thank you. If you ever need anything in this area, you can always come to me…” She paused, realizing it sounded too forward. “What I mean is—you’ve both helped me so much. I hope I can return the favor someday.”
The next morning, Sheng Qiye brought that piece of dragon-seed Imperial Green jade with Leng Xiao and went to Phoenix Mountain.
Miracle Doctor Hua received them politely, inviting them into his home. He asked his assistant, Zhang Shuo, to brew tea.
“President Sheng, you’re such a busy man. What brings you here today?”
Sheng Qiye smiled.
“Since you came to the capital, I should’ve paid my respects long ago.”
He opened the gift box and presented the jade.
“This is a piece of jade I recently found. What do you think of it?”
Hua Tuo had a large collection of jade, including Imperial Green, though none as large as this. He picked it up and examined it carefully.
“This is indeed a fine piece.”
“If you like it, I’d be honored to gift it to you,” Sheng Qiye said warmly.
Hua Tuo was well-versed in jade, but he wasn’t naive.
“Without merit, I cannot accept such a gift. President Sheng, you wouldn’t give me something this valuable without reason.”
“This jade wasn’t mine originally—it was found by a young woman at the black market,” Sheng Qiye explained.
“A young woman?” Hua Tuo was intrigued. “The black market has treasures like this?”
Sheng Qiye didn’t hide it.
“She came to see you two days ago, but you turned her away. She even waited outside for an entire day, only to be driven off by the guards.”
Hua Tuo raised his brows in surprise.
“You mean this was found by Su Rong? She has such ability?”
Sheng Qiye smiled.
“The fact that you remembered her name shows she left a good impression. She’s quite outstanding—once hailed as the capital’s number one talented young lady, skilled in music, chess, calligraphy, and painting. Unfortunately, an accident three years ago changed everything…”
“I’ve heard about it from Zhang Shuo,” Hua Tuo nodded. “A pity indeed.”
Sheng Qiye stood and bowed deeply.
“I humbly ask you to treat her.”
Hua Tuo looked at the jade in his hand.
“So, she asked you to give this to me?”
Sheng Qiye recounted the events.
“She didn’t know about your fondness for jade. But consider this her treatment fee. Would that be acceptable?”
Hua Tuo could see Sheng Qiye’s sincerity.
“Since you’ve spoken, I’ll give you this favor. Have her come this afternoon. I’ll treat her.”
Sheng Qiye finally let out a breath of relief.
“Thank you, Doctor Hua.”
Hua Tuo chuckled.
“You’re right—such an outstanding girl, it would be a shame if her hand were ruined. Besides, I truly do like this piece of jade.”
In truth, when Su Rong had mentioned the name “Qindai,” Hua Tuo had wanted to see her. But that name stirred up painful memories, which was why he turned her away then.
“Then I’ll trouble you with this matter,” Sheng Qiye said respectfully.
He stayed for some tea and small talk before leaving around noon.
Once back in the car, he turned to Leng Xiao.
“Notify Su Rong. Tell her to come for treatment.”
