Chapter 41: Marriage Certificate 5
Back in school, he had fallen head over heels for her at first sight. He went back and used all his savings to custom-make this ring. He was only given basic living expenses from home during college, but he had done some projects and made some money from investments.
“I was planning to confess to you and give this to you as a token of our love after you said yes.” Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned. She had already gone abroad by the time he found out about her.
Lu Jingchen put the ring on her finger and smiled.
“It seems a bit small? It seems you still grow after 16.” He took the ring off and put it back on the necklace.
“Keep it here for now, I’ll get it resized later. Would you like to choose a ring now, Mrs. Lu, or wait until this one is ready and then choose a wedding ring together?”
Qin Ruyan was taken aback. “Besides this ring, are you going to give me another one?”
Lu Jingchen leaned closer to her, fastened her seatbelt, and then spoke.
“This ring is for our love, the wedding ring will be custom-made.”
He was so close, his breath tickled her ear.
“Lu Jingchen, if I hadn’t gone abroad back then, are you so sure I would have said yes? I was only 16.”
He had already decided on a ring so long ago.
He chuckled. “I might have had an advantage over your other suitors. Yaoyao is your biggest fan, you were classmates, right? Besides, if you rejected me, I could just keep pursuing you.”
The smile on Qin Ruyan’s lips froze. She almost forgot about this.
“What do I do? I haven’t told Yaoyao about you yet, will she be angry?”
Lu Jingchen held her hand, took out the marriage certificate and placed it on their clasped hands, then took out his phone and took a picture. He then opened his Moments and posted the picture with a caption:
Married.
He closed his phone the next second. Qin Ruyan watched his actions, her head throbbing.
“Take you home to meet my parents, then back to my place?”
His voice was a little hoarse, especially the last sentence.
Qin Ruyan nodded.
Lu Jingchen released her hand and started the car.
Less than two minutes later, his phone rang. He glanced at it, it was a call from the old house.
He looked at Qin Ruyan, “It should be my grandfather’s call. Smoke, can you answer for me? I’m driving, I can’t answer.”
Qin Ruyan’s eyes widened. Are you speaking human language? Her lips were tightly pressed together. Lu Jingchen smiled, “Put it on speaker, I’ll talk to grandpa.”
Qin Ruyan hummed, and put it on speaker.
Old house.
Lu Maoxuan was playing with a parrot. He was old and had long since retired from company affairs.
After Lu Jingchen took over these past few years, even Lu Huaijin didn’t bother much with the company. They were both happy to be carefree, leaving a pile of things to Lu Jingchen.
The old man played with the parrot for a while, then remembered his unfilial grandson hadn’t been back in a long time.
He had been taught by Zhang Qiyao how to use WeChat, and he even learned to post on Moments, view Moments, like and comment, and even learned to post videos.
He strolled to the sofa and sat down, took out his phone, and clicked on WeChat, casually refreshing his Moments.
Three seconds later, the network refreshed, and at the top of his Moments was Lu Jingchen, the man who hadn’t posted a single Moments in eight hundred years, posting a picture.
He paused his hand that was holding the teacup, and the next second, he put down the teacup and stood up abruptly.
“Yaoyao, Yaoyao, come quickly!”
Zhang Qiyao had been dragged back to the old house by Ji Feng to handle a matter for a night, and then she escaped back to the old house.
She knew her brother wouldn’t dare come to the old house to catch her. She had slept like a log after coming back yesterday and hadn’t gotten enough sleep yet, but her grandfather had called her up.
She came down from the stairs, her steps a little hurried, and she jogged to her grandfather, not even bothering to catch her breath.
“Yaoyao, look, is this your brother’s WeChat?”
He opened the WeChat post and zoomed in. Zhang Qiyao looked at it, stunned. She rubbed her eyes in disbelief.
“Grandpa, it is, it’s my brother’s…”
The old man nodded. “Yaoyao, help me sit down.” He was a little nervous, his hand holding the phone shaking.
“No, Yaoyao, call your brother for me.”
Zhang Qiyao hummed in response and took the phone.
She dialed her brother’s number, and the phone rang for a long time before anyone answered. Seeing her grandfather’s face getting darker, she silently prayed for her brother to pick up the phone.
The ringtone rang for a few more seconds before the other side answered.
“Grandpa.”
Lu Jingchen’s voice came from the receiver, on speakerphone. Zhang Qiyao could feel her brother was right behind her, and she subconsciously shrank her neck.
“Did you just post on your WeChat?” The old man’s voice barely stabilized, and he asked in a flat tone.
“Yes.” Lu Jingchen admitted readily.
“Married? Where did you get the household registration booklet to get the certificate?” The old man’s voice got a little louder. Zhang Qiyao sat next to him, reaching out to pat his back, afraid that her grandfather would be fainted by her brother.
“Grandpa, even without a household registration booklet, it’s not difficult for me to get a marriage certificate. This is all the foundation that Grandpa and Dad have built for me.”
Listening to her brother’s slightly provocative words, Zhang Qiyao couldn’t help but silently mourn for him for a second.
“You stinky boy, come back immediately!”
“Grandpa, I’m driving, on speakerphone, your granddaughter is beside me, are you sure you want to be so harsh?”
Lu Jingchen was almost 29 years old this year. His grandfather had been urging him to get married for several years, and now that he was married, his grandfather was unhappy.
The old man was stunned for a moment when he heard this, his face turning a little red.
“Why didn’t you say so earlier?”
“Did you give me a chance to say it? Are Mom and Dad around? If not, please tell them, we’ll be there in half an hour. Also, Grandpa, you need to prepare a generous gift, after all, the household registration is already in our Lu family.”
After saying that, Lu Jingchen hung up the phone.
Beside him, Qin Ruyan’s face was flushed.
Lu Jingchen squeezed her face when the traffic light turned red. “Don’t overthink it, the condition I agreed to take over Lu’s was that I would decide my own marriage. You’re so good, no one would dislike you, okay?”
Qin Ruyan nodded blankly.
Half an hour later, they arrived at the Lu mansion.
Lu Jingchen held her hand with one hand, and two marriage certificates with the other, walking into the living room with a swagger.
In the living room, Lu Huaijin and Zhang Wanyu were also there.
It seemed that his grandfather was quite fast, he had called his parents over so quickly.
Everyone looked at the two of them. Zhang Qiyao stood up in shock when she saw Qin Ruyan. She was about to speak, but her brother stopped her with a glance.
Reasoning returned, Zhang Qiyao realized that if her family knew that she and Ruyan had known each other for a long time, without knowing Ruyan, they might jump to the conclusion that Ruyan was deliberately approaching her brother through her.
It wasn’t that they had a persecution complex, but that they had seen too much of this in the wealthy families.
