Chapter 54: Cooperation
Lu Huaijin glanced at him and casually took off his glasses.
“When I married your mother, we didn’t even have a honeymoon. We only went on one later. You’re luckier than I was back then.”
Lu Jingchen raised an eyebrow, completely losing his temper.
“Alright, you’re right.”
Lu Huaijin stood up and pointed to the files next to him. “I’ve taken care of all of this. You won’t be too busy now that you’re back, you’ll have plenty of time.”
He turned and left without looking back.
At Lu Jingchen’s age, who would have someone cover for them? He felt his son was a bit spoiled and arrogant.
Lu Jingchen resigned himself to sitting down on the chair. Beside him, Chen Zhong handed him a file.
“Mr. Lu, this is the information that came from F City.”
He had contacted his teacher earlier, and he hadn’t expected things to move so quickly. It had only been a few days and there was already progress.
He hummed in response, taking the file. His long, slender fingers gripped the file folder, turning white.
He hesitated for a moment before opening it and looking at it. The more he looked, the colder his expression became.
Chen Zhong stood to his left. He didn’t want to pry into his privacy, but Lu Jingchen’s expression was off.
“Mr. Lu, is there something wrong with this information?”
Lu Jingchen thought for a moment and spoke faintly. “Help me schedule a meeting with Qin Shi. No, I’ll contact him directly.”
Lu Jingchen stood up, took the file folder, and walked out. “I have a bill to settle today. You follow up on this later. I have something else to do and won’t be back this afternoon. I’ll drive myself.”
He gave a few more instructions before taking his car keys and leaving. Lu Jingchen had previously saved Qin Shi’s number, and they had arranged to meet at a coffee shop outside.
It wasn’t very far, and Lu Jingchen drove for twenty minutes before arriving.
He booked a private room, but Qin Shi wasn’t there yet. He took out the file and looked at it again.
The information seemed fine, but it felt like something was missing.
Especially the part mentioning that Qin Zheng had already received a job offer from the International Medical Science department, but he had an accident during his last outing to a conference in China.
And coincidentally, another professor who was at Beijing University’s medical department at the time, Zhang Qing, moved his family abroad. He ended up taking the position that Qin Zheng was supposed to have.
Several other professors also moved their families abroad and haven’t been heard from since.
Lu Jingchen furrowed his brow. He felt like there was more to it than that. Even if Zhang Qing had done something behind the scenes, Qin Chaoyang had secretly investigated for years and hadn’t found anything. If it was just Zhang Qing, he wouldn’t have the ability to do this.
He tapped his hand on the table, his delicate eyelashes drooping slightly.
Five minutes later, Qin Shi walked in. He looked rather indifferent and didn’t seem very happy with Lu Jingchen. After all, his sister had just returned and was whisked away by him.
“What do you want?” He sat across from Lu Jingchen and casually tugged at his collar. Qin Shi had just returned from out of town. He had just arrived at the company and hadn’t even had a sip of water when he was called out by Lu Jingchen. His eyes were a little red, clearly showing that he hadn’t gotten any rest.
Lu Jingchen raised his eyes and looked at his brother-in-law. He didn’t look very well. He pushed the file folder over.
“Take a look at this first.” He picked up the teacup next to him and took a small sip. Qin Shi wasn’t quite sure what Lu Jingchen was up to, but they were family now, so he smiled and said in a good-natured voice, “Okay,” although his voice was a little hoarse.
Lu Jingchen turned his head and looked out the window. The sun was quite strong now, and cars were coming and going on the street. There were also many pedestrians on the road. Beijing was a fast-paced city, and everyone was working hard every day.
Qin Shi was quick, and he finished reading the documents in less than five minutes. When he looked up, his expression was a little broken. “When did you start investigating?”
This information overlapped with his own, but it was much more detailed.
Lu Jingchen only turned his head when he heard his voice, pushing the untouched coffee on his side towards him.
“After Yan’er returned to China, I accidentally found out that she was investigating this matter, so I had someone take a look. There were indeed some clues, but I haven’t found anything concrete yet. I know you and your uncle are also investigating this matter, and I’m not sure if this will be helpful to you, but we can exchange information.”
Lu Jingchen’s expression was serious, not joking at all. Then he thought of something and smiled. “I don’t know if you found anything while investigating, but Yan’er seems to have quite a few little secrets.”
He remembered her nameless card, which was almost the same as his, and the way his subordinates reported to him with a blank expression. The store manager’s attitude was also strange when she bought clothes for Qin Shi that time.
Qin Shi shook his head. “I only found out that several professors from the same period had moved abroad, and I’ve kept an eye on them abroad, but I couldn’t find any trace. I don’t know if they were protected by someone behind the scenes or went somewhere else.”
Qin Shi didn’t hide anything. He knew that Lu Jingchen could investigate and achieve more than him, after all, he had more than just Lu Group behind him, as well as his own power.
Lu Jingchen nodded. “I will continue to follow up. We’ll contact each other if there’s any progress. Add me on WeChat?”
Qin Shi nodded. “Same here, we’ll share any information we have. What did you mean by Yan’er having little secrets?”
Lu Jingchen lowered his head and smiled, his eyes instantly softened.
“Nothing, just let you guys focus on your work. Don’t worry about her.”
Qin Shi was a little confused. Lu Jingchen didn’t seem to be worried, he frowned and thought for a while before speaking.
“The research I have, the one you’ve invested nearly two hundred million in, her parents were researching that before. I’m not sure if this information is helpful to you, but since we agreed to share resources, I won’t hide it from you.”
Lu Jingchen nodded. No wonder Qin Shi had invested so much in this research.
“You mentioned the medical department of Beijing University. Have you contacted them? Feel free to use them whenever you need, they’re under my management now.”
They talked for a while before parting. “I’ll go back first. We’ll contact each other if there’s any progress.”
Lu Jingchen got up and took a sip of water from the cup on his desk. Qin Shi nodded.
Qin Ruyan was drawing in Lu Jingchen’s study at Imperial View Garden at this moment.
She had been back for a while. The renovation progress of her studio was faster than expected, and she had also ordered the fabrics. She didn’t have many designs saved, so she wanted to draw some more before the opening.
When Lu Jingchen got home, it was quiet, but he saw her shoes and coat at the door, knowing she was back.
He raised an eyebrow, went to the bedroom first but didn’t find her, so he went into the study. He didn’t go in, just stood at the door, arms crossed, leaning against the doorframe, watching her draw.
He had noticed before that Qin Ruyan was very sensitive, she could sense someone approaching her almost instantly. But he had been standing there for a while, and she hadn’t noticed him.
He frowned slightly, was she too focused on drawing? Or had she gotten used to his presence?
He didn’t bother her, and turned to go into the kitchen.
