Chapter 57: Short of Money
Qin Ruyan transferred the 100 million yuan that Lu Jingchen had given her to Cheng Yubai a few days ago.
He had arrived at the Capital University Medical Laboratory, where he needed a lot of money to open a separate laboratory for research.
She had just received a WeChat message from Cheng Yubai, hinting vaguely that there was a funding gap.
Qin Ruyan checked her bank app and saw the balance, then transferred another 50 million yuan to him. She tapped her fingers on the table, thinking that her clothing studio hadn’t started yet, and she would need a lot of money after it opened, so she couldn’t just sit on her money.
BL was sitting in his office at the moment. Since he had brought Y in a few years ago, he had been much more relaxed. Those fugitives who were difficult to catch before were now easily apprehended.
His days were becoming more and more leisurely. He was currently drinking tea and playing a single-player game in his office.
A group chat popped up in the lower right corner of his computer screen. He glanced at it casually, then saw a familiar avatar. He was stunned for a moment, and the character in his game went offline the next second.
He didn’t pay much attention and clicked on the avatar. Seeing the message, he raised his eyebrows slightly.
BL: I remember the old man’s case in F City a while back, you only made 20 million yuan.
Qin Ruyan pursed her lips. She had already spent all 20 million yuan. She casually typed a few keys.
Y: I’m saving up for my dowry, no one will ever have too much money.
Li Li Li: Don’t talk nonsense, you’re a rough man, what dowry are you saving up for? You’re saving up for your wife.
Qin Ruyan rubbed her temples. She wasn’t in a good mood at the moment. The few of them had never met, and they only communicated through group chats. Occasionally, if there was an urgent matter, they would call using virtual accounts, and she would change her IP address.
Y: No, I’m off now. Contact me if you have any cases.
After sending this message, she closed the group chat without hesitation. She didn’t move for a while, thinking, should she talk to Lu Jingchen? Borrow some money from him first and pay him back when her studio gets started?
She was quite conflicted.
Lu Jingchen had just sat down in his office when Chen Zhong stood at the door for a while. He hesitated, unsure whether he should speak.
Lu Jingchen took a sip of coffee, opened his computer and clicked on a document. When he took off his glasses, he saw Chen Zhong standing at the door, looking hesitant. He frowned slightly and tapped his fingers impatiently on the table.
“What are you thinking about?”
His voice was emotionless, but Chen Zhong felt a strange pang in his heart. He walked forward, thought for a while, and then spoke.
“Mr. Lu, the bank called earlier and said that the account you opened for your wife, the one with 100 million yuan, was transferred out a few days ago. The bank is worried that it might be a case of account theft and asked me to ask you about it.”
Lu Jingchen raised his eyebrows slightly, but didn’t say anything.
“Transfer another 100 million to her account,” he said, then added after a moment, “If her account balance falls below 100 million in the future, just transfer it directly.”
Chen Zhong was a little taken aback. He knew Lu Jingchen was rich, not just in terms of the Lu Corporation’s wealth, but his personal account held hundreds of billions. Yet, he gave this order without any explanation, leaving Chen Zhong surprised.
Lu Jingchen lowered his head, a signature pen in his hand, his thoughts unreadable.
“See if you can trace the final destination of that money. If you can, send me the information.”
He knew Qin Ruyan had many little secrets. She wasn’t short of money, but her cash flow was substantial, with a lot of money coming in and going out. After thinking for a while, he changed his mind. “Forget it, I’ll contact the bank directly.”
Chen Zhong nodded and left. In the office, Lu Jingchen’s grip on the pen tightened. He hesitated for a moment before calling the bank.
Ten minutes later, the bank president replied with a text message. The words were full of respect, but he didn’t pay much attention, only noticing the last sentence: the money was eventually transferred to Cheng Yubai’s account.
Cheng Yubai.
Lu Jingchen silently repeated the name. He remembered him. The Cheng family in Beijing had been doctors for generations, and this generation was particularly skilled.
Cheng Yubai was the only son of the current generation of the Cheng family. After completing his undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees in medicine at Beijing University in China at the age of 22, he went abroad to study at the International Medical School. It was said that the International Medical School offered him very favorable conditions to stay, but he refused. He didn’t return to China to work either, instead becoming a doctor without borders.
Lu Jingchen leaned back in his chair, puzzled. How could these two people, who had nothing to do with each other, be connected? A thought flashed through his mind, but it was too fast for him to grasp.
After a long time, he took out his phone and sent a message.
Qin Ruyan had just changed clothes and was about to go out when her phone buzzed with a message. She clicked on it and froze in place.
Lu Jingchen had transferred another 100 million to her? Did he know she was short of money?
While she was still guessing, Lu Jingchen sent her a WeChat message.
“My dear wife, you worked hard last night. Buy yourself some nice things.”
Lu Jingchen knew she was sensitive, and he wasn’t suspicious of her when he checked the money flow. He was just worried about her. After all, he had found out about her few little aliases, and each one was more capable than the last.
Qin Ruyan pursed her lips, her ears turning slightly red. She silently muttered, “You stinky rascal.”
She closed her phone and called the studio. She had to check on the progress.
