Chapter 11
It seemed there was no use counting on the fish trap for tomorrow.
Her second brother fumbling around in the weeds like this wasn’t much of a plan either—what if he touched a snake?
Just the thought made her shiver. Then she remembered the miraculous spring water in her space. If she released a little of it, the fish were sure to like it.
She grabbed a handful of soil, poured a few drops of spring water into it with her mind, then glanced at the pool. When her second brother wasn’t paying attention, she tossed the soil into the weeds not far from her.
The water reacted instantly—small fish darted around the spot.
Su Wanwan’s eyes lit up with delight. “Second Brother, hurry, over here! So many fish!” She even pointed toward where she had just thrown the soil.
She kept her gaze fixed on the water and soon saw several large fish swimming toward the same place.
Hearing her, Su Heng rushed over. When he saw the fish, his pupils shrank in surprise, excitement flashing in his eyes as he lunged to grab them.
He caught a big one and tossed it ashore, then grabbed another.
The fish her brother had just thrown onto the bank looked to be over five pounds each. Su Wanwan couldn’t stop grinning. “Second Brother, I’ll help you!”
She was about to stand up when Su Heng stopped her. “Just sit there. If you fall in, I’ll have to save you.”
Su Wanwan: “!!!”
True enough. Her brother didn’t know she could swim. So she obediently sat, watching as he tossed fish after fish onto the bank, her eyes full of joy.
Who would’ve thought she, a pampered young lady, would one day crave meat?
If her old classmates and friends found out, they’d laugh her to death.
Before long, seven or eight fish were already on the bank.
The water calmed again, and she was amazed that just two drops of spring water could work such wonders.
Su Heng came ashore, hardly able to believe it. “So many fish! What on earth happened here, little sister? It’s incredible.”
Su Wanwan fibbed, “What’s so strange about it? I just saw something fall from the branches above, right where you were grabbing fish. That must have drawn them.”
Su Heng glanced up at the branches above the water. “Ah, that explains it.” Smiling broadly, he gathered the fish into his basket.
There were too many—he had to rearrange them so their tails stuck out, but at least they all fit.
Su Wanwan beamed. “Hurry and wash up. Once you’re done, we’ll go home and cook the fish.”
She couldn’t wait—her head was already full of recipes: braised fish, fish with pickled cabbage, spicy fish, steamed fish… She had to stop before her mouth watered.
When had she become such a greedy girl?
Su Heng laughed, jumped into the pool, swam a few laps, then stopped near her. Watching his sister playfully kicking her feet in the water, her face radiant with a smile, he teased:
“Little sister, nothing like that ever happened before. Maybe it’s your stinky feet in the water that attracted the fish.”
Su Wanwan pouted, knowing he was joking. “Nonsense! My feet don’t stink.” Then she flicked water at his face with her toes.
Su Heng shielded his eyes with his hands. “Alright, alright, I was only joking. Just wanted to make you laugh.”
Today had been worth it, seeing her so happy—unlike the gloom of the past few days. He really should bring her out to play more often.
Meanwhile, Xie Beishen approached the pool, stripping off his shirt and tossing it onto Lin Yu. “Hold this.” Then he kept walking forward.
Lin Yu chuckled, slinging the shirt over his shoulder as he undid his own buttons, trailing after him.
When Xie Beishen reached a tree by the pool, he suddenly saw the woman who had been haunting his dreams, stirring up his restless thoughts.
His breath caught, his heartbeat quickened.
She was sitting on a rock opposite, her long hair loosely tied up, ends curled by the wind. Her delicate face was flushed like a ripe peach, her curved brows and radiant smile dazzling.
Her trouser legs were rolled up to the knees, revealing fair calves. She playfully tapped the water with her toes, teasing the man swimming in the pool.
The man in the water begged for mercy. “I was wrong, alright?”
Xie Beishen’s gaze darkened. Why did that man seem so unpleasant to look at?
Lost in thought, he felt Lin Yu tap his shoulder. “Why’d you stop? You’re blocking me.” Lin Yu too had heard the voices from the pool.
At that moment, Su Wanwan and Su Heng also looked over.
When Su Wanwan’s eyes met Xie Beishen’s, she froze—eyes widening, lips parting slightly, body stiffening.
She blinked, unable to believe what she saw. Her heart thumped wildly.
Xie Beishen—shirtless.
His chest was firm, abs sharply defined, with the faint outline of that sexy V-line disappearing below his waistband. His lean waist, his sculpted arms with just the right amount of muscle—nothing exaggerated, but perfectly shaped.
Far more captivating than the male models showing off abs in those short videos.
This body… oh no… it was pure hormones.
Every part of him hit her right in her aesthetic.
On the outside she tried to act calm, but inside, she was like a groundhog shrieking: Ahhhhhh!!!
Oh my god, it really was Xie Beishen.
Ahhhhhh!!! She felt she was about to go crazy.
The man she had secretly liked for four years—suddenly standing before her, in this impossible era.
How could he be here? Did that mean he had crossed over too?
Xie Beishen saw every flicker of expression on her face—shock, joy, doubt, a blush.
So many emotions upon seeing him… Could it be she was remembering that night?
Lin Yu nudged him forward a few steps, and Xie Beishen stepped out from behind him. When he clearly saw who was there, he realized he knew them, though they’d never spoken before.
And Su Wanwan—he hadn’t seen her for quite a while. She’d always been pretty, but this time, she left him stunned for a moment.
Su Heng, however, caught the way both men were staring at his sister. His face darkened, and he snapped coldly:
“What are you looking at?”
