Saving Cannon Fodders with the Villain
Saving Cannon Fodders with the Villain Chapter 14.1

“It’s late at night, and everyone else has gone back to their rooms upstairs, leaving Zheng Wei sitting on the sofa in the downstairs living room, pondering the current situation.

Two questions are before him now: is the evil spirit something that was already present or did it arise from the tragic events forty years ago? And where can he find something that can kill it?

The most important of these two questions, and also the most difficult, is the latter. Zheng Wei has no clue and doesn’t even know if the thing is in this house.

“System, when will the evil spirit appear? Will it come out tonight?” Zheng Wei suddenly remembered an important question.

[Sorry, This question can’t be answered at the moment.]

If even the system doesn’t know when the evil spirit will appear, then this is trouble. Zheng Wei has no confidence in the current situation.

“How will I know when the evil spirit will appear and where it will appear?” What if it’s lurking in this house and catches him off guard?

[When the evil spirit awakens, the system will automatically notify the host]

Is the evil spirit still dormant? That’s good news, but it will eventually awaken, and before that happens, Zheng Wei must find a way to destroy it.

“Is the thing that can destroy the evil spirit in this house?” Zheng Wei asks tentatively, unsure if the system will answer him.

This portable system is too rigid, like a search engine. To get help, he can only rely on himself. Zheng Wei can’t help but daydream that the system in his mind could be as intelligent as Little Eleven.

[Yes.]

The system responded as laconic as ever, unwilling to add any more words.

But this is already a significant breakthrough. Zheng Wei immediately followed up, “Where specifically in this house?” If the system knows, that would be even better.

This time, the system didn’t answer him immediately. After a long time, two words appear on the screen.

[Downstairs.]

“Downstairs?” Although the range has been significantly reduced, Zheng Wei was still not entirely satisfied. “Which room specifically?” he asked, refusing to give up.

[This question cannot be answered], the system didn’t know either.

“Okay,” he sighed, feeling defeated. “Can you at least tell me what it looks like?” It would save him a lot of time and effort to know what he was looking for.

[This question cannot be answered]

Looks like I’ll have to go around and feel everything, Zheng Wei sighed, feeling tired at the thought.

In fact, when he was cleaning earlier, he had almost touched everything downstairs that could be used as a weapon. There was only one place he couldn’t get into, and he had no idea what was inside.

It was the locked basement. There must be something wrong with that basement, and as Jin had suggested, it might contain an important clue.

Zheng Wei didn’t know where the key to the basement door was. He thought about it but had no clue. Should he break the door down now? He pondered.

But after a moment’s thought, he gave up. Breaking the door down now would disturb the people upstairs. They were tired today, so he decided to let them rest tonight before trying to break in.

In fact, Zheng Wei was also exhausted and didn’t have the energy to continue. He decided to put these things aside for now.

With that in mind, Zheng Wei yawned and stood up, planning to go upstairs and get some extra bedding to get through the night.

He went to knock on the door of the bedroom on his right on the second floor. He had seen some spare sheets and bedding in the closet of this room today.

Martin and Diane lived in this bedroom. Diane opened the door when Zheng Wei knocked.

“Hey, Zheng, are you here to get the bedding?” She smiled and invited him in. “Come in and get it yourself.”

“Thank you, Diane,” Zheng Wei greeted her and walked in. “Where’s Martin?”

“Oh, Martin’s taking a shower,” Diane looked towards the direction of the bathroom.

Zheng Wei could hear the sound of water coming from the bathroom faintly.

“The cabinets in this room are filled with these things. You can take as many as you want,” Diane opened the cabinet filled with bed sheets and covers and let Zheng Wei choose.

“Okay, thank you,” Zheng Wei walked over and picked up a few blankets casually.

“What’s this?” After moving the blankets away, Diane noticed that the wooden board behind the blankets seemed a bit strange.

“What’s wrong?” Zheng Wei heard Diane’s words and quickly put down the blankets.

He squatted down in front of the cabinet door and found a red string in the empty cabinet. It seemed to be wedged in the gap between the cabinet panels. Curious, Zheng Wei pulled it, and the wooden board opened like a door, revealing what was inside.

It was a secret compartment, and the contents inside made Zheng Wei widen his eyes in surprise.

“Oh my God,” Diane couldn’t help but exclaim when she saw what was inside. “Why are there so many guns here?”

There was a hidden compartment in the wardrobe, filled with guns and ammunition.

Although guns were not uncommon in this country, most people would never keep so many at home. Zheng Wei estimated that there were at least six or seven guns in there, along with countless boxes of ammunition.

These weapons were just too much for an ordinary family.

Diane had only seen a small pistol in her father’s desk drawer before, and Zheng Wei had never even seen one. Faced with so many firearms for the first time, both of them didn’t know how to react.

“Hey, guys,” at this moment, the bathroom door opened and Martin came out wrapped in a towel.

“What are you guys doing standing in front of the cabinet?” he walked over to Diane and Zheng Wei while drying his hair.

“Martin, I think you should come over and take a look at this,” Diane said, nodding towards the cabinet.

“What’s up, honey?” Martin walked over and peered into the cabinet.

“Wow,” Martin exclaimed when he saw the guns, “cool!”

Most boys have a dream of owning firearms, and Martin was no exception. As soon as he saw what was inside the cabinet, he immediately dropped the towel in his hand, half-knelt in front of the cabinet, and was as happy as if he had found some incredible treasure.

“Winchester, Ruger, and Kentucky! This is so cool, I love this!” Martin buried himself in the pile of guns and ammunition, occasionally making excited noises.

“And this one even has a bump stock?!” Martin took out a magazine and exclaimed in surprise, “This is the first time I’ve seen the real thing, who modified it, they’re a genius!”

“This is like a mini arsenal!” Martin was ecstatic, buried in the pile of guns and ammo, exclaiming, “I love this so much.”

Zheng Wei and Diane were not at all infected by Martin’s excitement. They did not like firearms and did not feel excited when they saw them. Especially Diane, she looked at so many weapons and felt a bit panicked.

“Stop playing, Martin,” she shouted to her boyfriend, “Put these things back.”

“Why?” Martin still had his head buried in the pile of firearms, without looking up.

“Why are these things here, and how should we deal with them? Should we call the police?” Diane asked anxiously.

“Why call the police?” Martin turned around to look at Diane and exclaimed, “Dear, these are guns!”

“It’s precisely because they’re guns that we need to call the police,” Diane frowned and said, “These things are very dangerous, and we should hand them over to people who can handle them.”

“Oh, come on, baby, I don’t want to give it to the police.” Martin frowned at the remark. Martin was obsessed with firearms, he dreamed of having a gun of his own, but his parents didn’t allow him to do so.

“You don’t even have a gun permit, you can’t carry a gun.” Diane didn’t agree with his approach. “I think we should hand it over to the police.”

“But this is a gun, baby, I’ve been dreaming of having a gun of my own.” Martin really didn’t want to part with the gun in his hand.

“No.” Diane’s attitude was still firm, and she didn’t intend to let Martin act recklessly.

“Hey, Zheng, my good bro, help me out here.” Martin turned to Zheng Wei, who had been standing beside him.

“These things are dangerous and will bring you trouble.” Zheng Wei hesitated for a moment and said.
