Chapter 29: Mr. Pei, What Brings You Here?
Jian Ruo Ci looked up at the sky. When would the rain stop?
She had been waiting outside the supermarket for an hour. The rain didn’t stop, but it got heavier. The cold wind blew, and she pulled her neck back, wrapping her coat tighter around her.
Fortunately, she had worn an extra coat when she went out today. Otherwise, she would have frozen to death outside.
The old villa was located in a remote area. She couldn’t hail a taxi. She had been cooped up at home for so many days, and she was ready to get some exercise. She walked for half an hour to the intersection and got into a taxi. If only she had called a car…
She wouldn’t have forgotten to bring her phone…
Her coat had a hood. She put it on.
She really wanted to slap herself twice. Of all the malls, she had chosen this remote one.
She didn’t know how long the rain would last. She couldn’t just wait here. It was raining too hard. It wasn’t a good idea to go to the supermarket to buy an umbrella. She would definitely end up drenched like a drowned chicken. It was better to just run into the rain and get to the intersection to hail a taxi home.
She hesitated. Even if she ran to the intersection with two large bags, she might not be able to hail a taxi quickly. She might have to stand at the intersection in the rain and be watched by passersby.
But if the rain was going to last all day, she couldn’t wait here for a whole day.
She finally used this reason to overcome herself. Wasting time was wasting life and wasting money.
She tightened her grip on the bags. She was about to run into the rain, but someone grabbed her wrist. She braced herself, and due to inertia, she almost fell face-first to the ground, having a close encounter with Mother Earth.
She was already impatient waiting here, and now she was almost tripped and fell flat on her face. She, Jian Ruo Ci, could tolerate this. She would write her name backwards.
If she didn’t get angry, people would think she was a fool.
No matter what, no matter who was behind her, even if the Emperor of Heaven came today, she would have to vent her anger.
She gritted her teeth. She was carrying two bags in both hands. She didn’t have a free hand. She gripped the bags in her hands. As she turned around, the bags swung out, directly towards the man’s face behind her.
Pei Yan Zhou!
It seemed like it was too late when she saw who was behind her. She couldn’t stop her hand.
She was really going to die this time…
She was so scared that she closed her eyes. If she couldn’t see, it meant it hadn’t happened.
Yes, that’s it.
Her wrist was also grabbed. She opened her eyes. Her hand was released. The bag of instant noodles didn’t hit his cold face.
She felt a little bit of relief. Just a little bit. She was a little dog if she lied.
“You’re relieved that you didn’t hit my face?” Pei Yan Zhou’s eyes were black, staring straight at her.
Jian Ruo Ci felt guilty. “No…”
“Tell the truth.”
“Hmm…” She stammered. “Just a little bit…”
“Who made you almost kiss Mother Earth?”
“I saw you and stopped. I couldn’t stop my hand.”
Pei Yan Zhou: “I wouldn’t let you.”
His expression was indifferent, showing no emotion.
“Wouldn’t let me what?” Jian Ruo Ci asked.
“I’m here.” Pei Yan Zhou said. “I wouldn’t let you fall.”
Heh… I’ll believe you when I see it. Old man, you almost made me fall just now.
Pei Yan Zhou stared at the plastic bags in her hands for a moment, his brows slightly furrowed. “Is that all you’re eating?”
Jian Ruo Ci followed his gaze and looked at the bags in her hands. “Hmm, I’m too lazy to cook. This is convenient.”
Pei Yan Zhou’s eyes darkened. Jian Ruo Ci didn’t notice. She suddenly thought of something. Maybe she had a way out. She blinked at him. “Pei Yan Zhou, do you have a car?”
“Hmm.”
“Then can you… give me a ride?” Jian Ruo Ci stared at his face, waiting for his response.
“No.” Pei Yan Zhou’s tone was slightly cold.
Jian Ruo Ci: “…”
She didn’t notice the hint of anger in his tone.
Fine. She couldn’t escape her fate of being drenched like a drowned chicken. “Goodbye, Mr. Pei.”
Jian Ruo Ci was a little upset. She cursed Pei Yan Zhou eight hundred times in her heart.
He had said all those things that made her misunderstand. Now, he wasn’t even willing to give her a ride in the rain. They say a woman’s heart is like the bottom of the sea, but actually, men are the same.
Pei Yan Zhou is a scumbag!
No! A scumbag dog!
She turned to leave, but Pei Yan Zhou’s cold voice rang out behind her. “Come back!”
Jian Ruo Ci gritted her teeth, turned around, and met his gaze. She smiled but her eyes were cold. “Mr. Pei, what brings you here?”
“Go to the mall.”
He wasn’t even willing to give her a ride, but he wanted her to go shopping with him? Dream on!
She glared at him resentfully. “No time.”
“Go to the mall and I’ll take you home.”
“Okay, Mr. Pei, you go first.” Jian Ruo Ci’s attitude changed quickly. She smiled obsequiously at Pei Yan Zhou. One second she was cold, the next second she was making a complete 180-degree turn.
She, Jian Ruo Ci, could bend and stretch. She would rather go to the mall with Pei Yan Zhou and then have him take her home than get drenched in the rain and not be able to hail a taxi.
Pei Yan Zhou took the bags from her hands, carried them, and went into the mall first. Jian Ruo Ci followed behind him obsequiously.
He stored the bags in the storage locker at the front desk and then went to the fresh food section. The vegetable section was next to the fresh food section. Jian Ruo Ci followed behind, pushing the shopping cart and smiling obsequiously.
She was afraid that Pei Yan Zhou wouldn’t keep his word and would leave her once they left the supermarket.
Half an hour later, they came out of the mall.
The rain had stopped…
That’s right, the rain had stopped…
She had been trying her best to please this dog man at the mall, and it actually stopped raining!
He was playing with her!
Even the weather was against her.
Jian Ruo Ci was still carrying the vegetables Pei Yan Zhou had bought. She threw them on the ground. Pei Yan Zhou glanced at her. She glared at him angrily. “Goodbye.”
She snatched the things she had bought from Pei Yan Zhou’s hands and strode towards the side of the road to hail a taxi.
She had only walked about twenty steps when a clap of thunder sounded, and the rain poured down.
Jian Ruo Ci: “…”
She almost swore. She turned around and saw Pei Yan Zhou still standing there.
Pei Yan Zhou would give her a ride, right?
He would, right?
He would, right?
Right?
She took a gamble and ran towards Pei Yan Zhou. When she reached him, her hair was already wet.
She shoved the things she had bought into Pei Yan Zhou’s hands and picked up the bag of vegetables she had thrown on the ground. She walked to Pei Yan Zhou’s side. “Mr. Pei, you go first.”
Pei Yan Zhou frowned slightly and glanced at her.
Jian Ruo Ci could tell. Pei Yan Zhou was looking at her like she was an idiot.
To ease the awkwardness, she smiled foolishly at Pei Yan Zhou.
This looked…
Even more idiotic…
She didn’t care anymore. Her goal now was to get home.
If she could get home, she would be an idiot, so what? It didn’t matter.
She followed Pei Yan Zhou to the underground parking lot of the mall. Pei Yan Zhou took the things from her hands and put them in the car.
She stood by the passenger door and watched him. Pei Yan Zhou put the things down and glanced at her. “What? Do you need me to open the door for you?”
Jian Ruo Ci: “…”
Did she need him to? No.
“No.”
She opened the passenger door, got in, and fastened her seatbelt. Pei Yan Zhou opened the driver’s door, got in, and turned on the heater.
Pei Yan Zhou took a wet wipe and threw it at her head. “Wipe yourself.”
Jian Ruo Ci took the wet wipe off her head and pouted.
Of course, she would wipe herself. Would you wipe me?
