Following his movement, Sang Zhi lowered her gaze and stared at the illuminated lock screen. She raised her head again, her lips moved as if she wanted to say something, but Duan Jiaxu had already straightened up.
His gaze was both gentle and ambiguous as he looked at her.
The entire row was filled with students and noticing the commotion, they all subconsciously looked over.
Sang Zhi didn’t know most of them. The few schoolmates sitting nearby were only somewhat familiar to her because they had the same mentor and had met a few times.
But none of them were particularly close to her, so they had never met Duan Jiaxu.
It seemed that Duan Jiaxu had only come over to give a quick reminder and didn’t say anything more. He lightly nodded his head, took a step back, and returned to his original seat.
After he left, the schoolmate beside Sang Zhi leaned over and whispered, “What’s going on? Did that handsome guy come over just to flirt with you? That’s so……
But then again,” The schoolmate’s tone shifted, “that handsome guy has the vibe of a player, like someone who casts a wide net.”
“……”
“And his face, you can just tell he’s a heartbreaker.” The schoolmate clicked her tongue twice, her words carrying a hint of admiration, “I’ve never seen someone with such a textbook player face.”
Hearing that, Sang Zhi turned to look at the other party, her expression complicated.
The schoolmate asked, “What’s wrong?”
“That-.” Sang Zhi couldn’t help but mention, “He’s my boyfriend.”
“……”
There were a few seconds of silence before the schoolmate, seeming to realize the awkwardness, gave a couple of dry laughs and tried to explain, “I just meant that he’s really handsome.”
Sang Zhi didn’t mind too much since Duan Jiaxu did give off that kind of impression. She smiled softly and said, “It’s fine, I’m not mad.”
The schoolmate, still curious, asked, “How did you two meet?”
As Sang Zhi replied to Duan Jiaxu on WeChat, she answered, “He’s a friend of my brother.”
“Sigh, I wish I had a brother too.” The schoolmate said enviously, “Preferably one with a really handsome friend, so I could have an advantage in close proximity.”
The two of them chatted for a few more minutes.
Sang Zhi then focused on her conversation with Duan Jiaxu on WeChat.
【Sang Zhi: When did you get here?】
【Duan Jiaxu: This morning.】
【Sang Zhi: Then how come you’re at this event?】
【Duan Jiaxu: I heard you were coming to this award ceremony and my previous company was also invited, so I came over on behalf of Sister Jiang.】
Sang Zhi felt a bit annoyed. 【You told me yesterday you didn’t have time.】
It had put her in a bad mood all day.
【Duan Jiaxu: I wanted to surprise you.】
【Duan Jiaxu: Are you mad?】
She stared at his message for a long time and soon most of her displeasure faded away. Thinking about how he looked in his suit, she couldn’t help but lick her lips.
Fine.
It was quite a surprise.
After some thought, Sang Zhi took the initiative to suggest, 【Should we move to the back?】
【Sang Zhi: There are empty seats there.】
The auditorium was spacious, with more seats than people. The front rows were mostly reserved for company representatives and professors from other universities, while the rest of the seats were unassigned.
【Duan Jiaxu: Okay.】
Seeing his reply, Sang Zhi packed up her things, talked to the schoolmate beside her, and stood up to move to the back, finding two adjacent empty seats.
Before long, Duan Jiaxu also came over and sat beside her.
Sang Zhi glanced in his direction, and the more she looked, the more stunning he seemed. She noticed that the girls around them were also glancing his way, which made her a bit unhappy. “Why are you even wearing a suit? Did you go home to change after the flight?”
Duan Jiaxu reached out to hold her hand, gently squeezing the soft flesh on her palm. “Mm.”
Sang Zhi couldn’t help but mutter, “One of my schoolmates said you have the face of a heartbreaker.”
Duan Jiaxu’s actions paused and he looked up. “What?”
“She said you have,” Sang Zhi stared at him, her tone carrying a hint of accusation, “a once-in-a-century, extremely classic face of a heartbreaker.”
“And what does a face of a heartbreaker look like?”
“I don’t know.” Emboldened by the fact that it was her schoolmate who said it, Sang Zhi became a little more brazen. “But she said it looks like yours.”
Duan Jiaxu’s eyelids twitched.
Before he could say anything, Sang Zhi suddenly grabbed his face and emphasized each word, “Can you stop flirting with everyone all the time?”
“……” Duan Jiaxu was stunned for a moment, finding the situation absurd. He couldn’t help but laugh, “I’m always flirting with everyone?”
Sang Zhi cupped his face and pushed it downward, trying to block his face from the gazes around them. “Exactly. Just sit like this.”
After thinking for a moment, she sternly said, “Can you wear a mask whenever you go out from now on?”
Duan Jiaxu stared at her, then slowly came to a realization. The corners of his lips curled up.
“Little vinegar packet[1]jealous.”
Sang Zhi puffed out her cheeks but didn’t deny it. She glanced over and suddenly noticed the tie around his neck. It was the one she had given him before. The frustration she had felt finally began to dissipate a bit.
Sang Zhi changed the topic, “When are you going back to Nanwu?”
“The morning after tomorrow.”
“Oh.”
“I’ll come back around Qingming Festival.” Duan Jiaxu added, “I’ll be visiting my mom’s grave. Will you go with me?”
Sang Zhi nodded. “Okay.”
Duan Jiaxu leaned back against the chair, tilting his head to lazily watch her. After a moment, he spoke again, nonchalantly saying, “Come here.”
Suspiciously, Sang Zhi moved closer. “What for?”
“My tie is loose.” Duan Jiaxu replied. “Help me fix it.”
Sang Zhi was bewildered. “But I don’t know how.”
Duan Jiaxu said, “Just push it up.”
“……”
You have hands, don’t you?
Sang Zhi didn’t say it out loud. Instead, she obediently reached for his tie and clumsily pushed it up as he had instructed. The next moment, Duan Jiaxu suddenly grasped her wrist and pulled her forward.
As if guided by the force, his whole body leaned in and he accurately pressed his lips against hers.
It was a brief, fleeting touch.
“……”
In that incredibly short moment, Sang Zhi didn’t even have time to react and Duan Jiaxu had already straightened up. He leisurely adjusted his tie as he calmly said, “You gave me a scare.”
Sang Zhi: “?”
“If you want to kiss me, just do it.” Duan Jiaxu said as he affectionately brushed his lips against hers again. “No need for these little tricks.”
“……”
Sang Zhi’s expression was indescribable.
He was was truly the most shameless man she had ever met in her life.
Sang Zhi suppressed her frustration. She expressionlessly pulled his hand away and leaned closer to adjust his tie, saying stiffly, “You made it crooked.”
Duan Jiaxu lowered his gaze, suddenly chuckling. He called her, “Kid.”
“What?”
“I missed you.”
Sang Zhi looked up and softly replied, “Oh.”
Duan Jiaxu raised an eyebrow. “Just an ‘oh’?”
“My ‘oh’,” Sang Zhi helped smooth out his suit, seriously explaining, “means ‘me too’.”
Duan Jiaxu smiled. “Alright.”
The award ceremony still hadn’t started. Sang Zhi glanced at her phone, bored. She asked, “Are you going to give a speech later? It seems like each company has been given three minutes.”
Duan Jiaxu answered, “Mm.”
Sang Zhi’s interest was piqued. “Have you thought about what you’re going to say?”
Duan Jiaxu hummed again.
Since it was just about the company’s situation, Sang Zhi didn’t press further. But now that she was looking forward to the ceremony, time seemed to pass a little faster.
Soon, it was time for the speeches.
Duan Jiaxu stood up and glanced at her. “I’ll be back soon.”
Sang Zhi planned to record it and since their current position was far from the stage, she moved to a better spot.
After waiting for a while, it was finally Duan Jiaxu’s turn to speak. He stood under the bright lights, standing out among the crowd.
Sang Zhi started recording.
Duan Jiaxu took the microphone from the host, looking a bit more serious than usual. He began speaking, slowly and clearly, about the company’s current situation, his tone both earnest and focused, getting straight to the point.
The person in front of her was a bit tall and blocked Sang Zhi’s view. Worried about blocking the person behind her, she could only hold her phone higher, which made her movements a bit awkward.
Two minutes passed.
Duan Jiaxu finished his sentence, then suddenly turned and walked a few meters to the side before stopping. Noticing the host’s confused expression, he smiled and explained gently, “Sorry, my girlfriend is filming me.”
“……”
“The previous position is making it hard for her.”
