Chapter 11 Enthusiastic Sisters
Thinking of this, Ming Leyao couldn’t help but curl her lips in disdain. That old witch acted like a capitalist, yet she kept yelling at others for being capitalists. She ought to be locked up and left to wallow in her feudal nonsense.
“Mom, that foolish son of my little uncle’s family is actually quite famous in the production team. Everyone knows what’s going on. If there’s a formal marriage proposal, it probably won’t work. If others in the production team find out, they’ll spread rumors and it will affect my eldest brother’s future.”
“Second sister, don’t worry about this. We’ve already thought it through. Dad’s birthday is coming in a few days. We’ll send that dead girl a message. When the time comes, you bring some people over, use some tricks, and make it a done deal. Afterward, we’ll say they did it of their own accord, and no one will say a word.”
“Big brother, your plan is brilliant!”
Ming Hu showered Ming Shi with compliments, making him a bit giddy.
Hidden under the window, Ming Leyao was so furious she wished she could storm in and knife them all. What nonsense! Such vicious scheming—just as expected, like father, like daughter. Ming Hongdou had fully inherited Ming Shi’s craftiness.
After getting the exact information, Ming Leyao quietly left the Ming family’s old estate. Once home, she went into her space (a special pocket dimension or storage) and started mixing medicines—various types. She also made a lot of antidotes.
She wasn’t sure if such banned substances even existed in this era, but she believed it was better to be prepared. Plus, with the lotus pond water from the space—which Xiaojinlian had said could detoxify—she had another ace up her sleeve.
Ming Leyao worked until evening before coming out of the space, starving. Her dog ran over eagerly, nosing her hard.
“Hungry?”
“Wooo… wooo…”
“All right, all right, I’ll get you some food.”
Humans, Ming Leyao thought, today was the last day. She’d make something good for Fu Wencheng—otherwise, it wouldn’t do justice to all the meal tickets he’d given her.
She took out a pound of pork belly with layers of fat, caramelized it with sugar, added soy sauce, and after half an hour, a pot of fragrant braised pork was ready. She then put it in another pot to simmer over low heat.
She cooked stir-fried shredded pork with green peppers and tomato egg soup. She also gave the dog a piece of meat with a little salt for flavor. The dog ate happily.
That night, Meng Zhaoqing came over to pick up some food. Along the way, he faintly smelled the meat aroma and couldn’t resist lifting the lid to peek.
“Wow… braised pork?? Smells so good… I haven’t had meat in ages. I have to get a bowl from Fu Wencheng later.”
He quickened his pace, pushed open the door, and closed it behind him quickly.
“Wencheng, Wencheng, I’m telling you, tonight you’re in for a treat. Since I’ve been bringing you meals these days, let me scrounge a meal, will you?”
Fu Wencheng’s handsome brow twitched slightly as his gaze fell on the basket. He sniffed, then slowly said, “Braised pork?”
“Yes, yes, let me have some? I haven’t eaten meat in so long.”
“No.”
“What? Are you even a brother? It’s just a bowl of meat, do you have to be so stingy?”
“I’ll give you meat coupons. Buy your own meat.”
“?????”
Damn it… if I could cook, would I be begging for food here like a beggar??
He wanted to argue with his own brother, but in the end, the smell of the meat defeated him. Meng Zhaoqing decided to try to negotiate properly.
“Look, Wencheng, we’re so close. I traveled all the way from Jing City to this godforsaken place for you. I didn’t complain once. For the sake of brotherhood, I’m absolutely obliged. Look at you…”
“If you say that… then I’ll bring up your grandfather’s matters.”
“……”
“All right, all right, forget the favor, then how about friendship?”
“Even friendship doesn’t count in front of braised pork.”
“……”
Meng Zhaoqing tried every trick but didn’t get a single bite of meat. So angry, he stomped off.
After he left, Fu Wencheng’s deep face flickered in the candlelight. He calmly got up, took the meals from the basket, and savored them carefully—every bite. In the end, not even a drop of soup was left.
Ming Leyao decided to stroll around the county town. If the school was really built, she didn’t even know what to teach. She planned to get some books and learn from the schools there.
In the morning, she had a bowl of noodles, poured the meat sauce she’d prepared in her space on top, and made some minced meat porridge for the dog before heading to see the brigade leader for an introduction letter.
For such an official matter, the brigade leader naturally agreed without hesitation and stamped the letter for her.
She ran along, twenty minutes faster than usual. After the exercise, she felt especially refreshed.
Her first stop was the county’s elementary school, where she smoothly found the principal’s office through the gatekeeper.
“You’re from Shangjiaqiao Brigade?”
“Yes, principal.”
“The commune told us earlier. But our books are limited; we might not be able to spare many.”
“That’s okay, principal. Our students can share and swap books. Do you have any teacher’s manuals?”
“Yes, we can spare two sets. That should be enough for you.”
“Thanks so much, principal.”
“No problem. It’s what we should do. I hope you can be a good teacher and never forget your responsibility to educate.”
“Yes, principal.”
With things settled, Ming Leyao changed her clothes outside the school, picked a basket with eggs, noodles, pork, brown sugar, and white sugar.
She thought she might not visit the county town for a long time, so selling some stuff would help a little.
Originally, she hadn’t planned to go to the textile factory, but just at the alley’s mouth, she ran into an elder sister from the factory who suddenly grabbed her.
“Little sister, little sister, you finally came!”
“Sis, sis, please let go, you’re squeezing my breath!”
“Ah… sorry, sorry, I got excited and forgot.”
“Were you looking for me?”
“Come with me? I’ve got a bunch of people waiting.”
“Okay.”
On the way, the two chatted without touching family matters, mostly gossip with the elder sister doing most of the talking and Ming Leyao listening.
Once at the textile factory, the elder sister told Ming Leyao to go to her house to report the news quickly.
Within ten minutes, a large group of elder sisters came rushing over.
“Little sister…”
“Oh, little sister… you finally came.”
Anyone seeing this would think Ming Leyao was their relative because of how warmly they treated her.
“Hello, sisters, hello. Should we go inside and talk?”
Seeing so many people, Ming Leyao quietly put more things into her basket, worried the few things wouldn’t be enough to share!
