Chapter 13: Going home and encountering a bloody incident?
The woman emphasized how Ming Leyao saved the man, which made the man somewhat cautious. Supported by his wife, he stood up and gratefully said to Ming Leyao, “Thank you, comrade. Could you please tell us your name and address? My wife and I would like to prepare something and pay you a visit to express our thanks.”
“My name is Ming Leyao. There’s no need to thank me — it was just a coincidence. I only temporarily suppressed your illness. Your condition is still critical. It’s best to go to the hospital for a thorough examination.”
“All right, all right. I’ve felt a little unwell these past few days but didn’t pay much attention. Didn’t expect… Ah, did I scare you, Yuer? It’s all my fault. Stop crying, come on, let’s go to the hospital together.”
Watching the couple walk away arm in arm, Ming Leyao felt a slight stirring in her heart. Holding hands and growing old together… Such sincere feelings are rare and precious… What if one day she experienced that herself? Ming Leyao chuckled to herself — she was only eighteen years old, it was too early to think about such things.
As the sun set, Ming Leyao walked back home. When she arrived at the doorstep, she saw many people gathered, pointing and whispering. She quickened her pace, pushing through the crowd, asking, “Make way? What happened?”
“Ming Leyao, there’s been a break-in at your home. We heard screams and dogs barking and came over, but no one dared to go in. You better check it out.”
Voices all talking at once urged her to open the door — some genuinely concerned, others just curious onlookers.
She opened the main door and saw someone lying in the yard. The dog was standing nearby, panting and looking adorable. For a moment, the scene fell silent. That dog is so small, how could it have hurt someone? Better not mess with its tiny teeth.
The dog noticed Ming Leyao wasn’t moving and blinked wetly with its black eyes. It let out a soft whimper and even reached out its paw, human-like, to pat the person on the ground. Ming Leyao’s eye twitched. When did this dog become so understanding? Is it suddenly possessed today?
Seeing its owner still motionless, the dog grew anxious and howled loudly. Miraculously, Ming Leyao seemed to understand what the dog was trying to say: “Why don’t you come over and comfort me, you lousy owner…”
Ming Leyao “……” Heh!!
Ignoring the exchange between Ming Leyao and the dog, the crowd rushed through the door and immediately recognized the person lying on the ground.
At this moment, Pang Jianyuan pushed through the crowd, calmly said, “First, find Meng Zhaoqing to see where this person is injured. Everyone else, don’t move. If he fell while climbing the wall, we don’t want secondary injuries or false accusations.”
Meng Zhaoqing arrived quickly — apparently encountered on the way, probably heading to Fu Wencheng’s home at this hour.
“No external injuries, no fractures, just fainted from fright.” After saying this, he pressed the “Renzhong” acupuncture point, and the man woke up.
Still a bit dazed, after noticing the dog’s contemptuous look, the man immediately howled and jumped up toward Pang Jianyuan.
“Team Leader, help! There’s a wolf in their house, a wolf…”
Crowd: “?????”
“Where’s the wolf? Where’s the wolf?”
Pang Jianyuan: “?????”
“Are you kidding me?!”
Dog: “?????”
“I’m obviously a handsome and dashing dog, you blind fool…”
Ming Leyao: “……” Hehe.
“Ergouzi, do you have bad eyesight or what? That’s obviously just a puppy, and even if it bit you, it wouldn’t even break the skin, right?”
“Yeah, yeah, you’re just talking nonsense with your eyes open.”
Ergouzi was a local troublemaker; his father was Shi Xingye, his mother Zheng Donglian, and his real name Shi Tieniu — nickname Ergouzi.
Just as everyone was laughing at Ergouzi for being afraid of such a small dog, a burly woman pushed through the crowd with such force she scattered everyone.
Compared to the skinny team members, Zheng Donglian stood out distinctly with her somewhat plump figure.
“Big son, you’ve been wronged. Now that you’ve been alone with that dead girl Ming Leyao, you’re bound to suffer some grievances after marrying her.” Zheng Donglian wailed loudly, startling everyone.
Where does she get the confidence? Marrying the educated Ming Leyao — her son getting wronged?
Meng Zhaoqing: “…..”
“Oh no, he’s done for. His brother probably won’t get a wife now.”
Ming Leyao: “…..”
What kind of nonsense are they spouting?
Zheng Donglian noticed the strange reactions but since she had gone too far, she had to continue. After rolling her eyes, she stepped up to Ming Leyao.
“You worthless girl, you little slut, my Shi family is a respectable family. If you want to enter my house, you have to pay some price. Take your child support money and hand it over to me when you enter, then live well with my son. Don’t always think nonsense. What good is being educated for a girl? It just brings shame.”
Great, now everyone clearly sees what this mother and son duo is scheming.
Ming Leyao left early that morning. Some people saw her, so she came back and opened the courtyard gate in front of everyone. How did her reputation get so damaged?
With Ergouzi’s notorious reputation, does anyone really think she needs to ruin it?
“I say… Auntie, the beads on your abacus are almost hitting my face. With your son’s infamous reputation, does he really need me to damage it? I think you have ideological and behavioral problems, and the committee should come investigate.”
“Team leader, you heard it all, right? Ergouzi might not get a wife. Auntie is desperate, grasping at straws. This is unacceptable. If she fancies some girl, then she ruins her reputation and forces her to marry. That’s no good for our hardworking production team traditions…”
Ming Leyao knew the mother and son were targeting her. She was exaggerating a bit by framing it as a production team issue, but if she didn’t make it sound serious, no one would care or get involved.
Sure enough, after she spoke, the crowd’s expressions toward Zheng Donglian and her son changed. Especially those with daughters at home — their looks were sharp enough to tear the mother and son apart alive.
“You… you little slut, what about my son? He’s fine. It’s a blessing if he chooses anyone. Besides, so many people saw him at your yard. If you don’t marry my son, who else will you marry?”
Ming Leyao snorted, not wanting to continue arguing with such scoundrels. She said directly to Pang Jianyuan, “Report this to the police. They dare to make all these accusations against me, trespass on my property, and damage my reputation. What about the girls in our team in the future?”
“You… you dare report to the police? You… you want to lose your reputation?”
