Chapter 24: Your Ming family has so many people
It was those few steps that brought Ming Leyao right to the doorway. Pressing her tongue against her molars, a sly curve lifted the corner of her mouth. Suddenly, she no longer wanted this matter to end quietly and unnoticed. The villain needed to have her own reckoning.
She abruptly flung open the door and screamed as she ran out, shouting while running, “I didn’t see anything, didn’t see anything!”
After Ming Leyao left, the wardrobe door was opened, and a figure darted out and lunged straight at Ming Yuehe. A louder scream erupted, startling all the relatives of the Ming family.
Those who clearly knew the situation stopped Ming Leyao, and everyone began to ask in a jumble of voices:
“Ming Leyao? What’s wrong with Leyao?”
“Leyao, what did you see?”
“You’re saying there’s someone in Yuehe’s room?”
“Is there really someone? Look how scared the girl is! Did you see who it was?”
“I… I… Ming Yuehe called me over to chat, then suddenly… suddenly the wardrobe made noises like knock knock. I wanted to check, but Ming Yuehe pushed me out the door. At that moment… at that moment…”
Ming Leyao knew how to keep people in suspense, stopping right at the crucial part.
“Oh, kid, if you saw something, just say it.”
“Yeah.”
“I… I saw a shadow flash by. I got scared and ran out to get help. You… you should come with me to check on Ming Yuehe. I’m afraid it’s some bad person, and Ming Yuehe is still inside.”
By now, that person should have come out, right? She gave the drug; it worked fast, so the effects should be kicking in… Ming Leyao’s panicked little expression convinced the crowd. But some quick thinkers raised doubts:
“This… hiding in Ming Yuehe’s wardrobe?”
“Ming Yuehe hasn’t left the room all day. Would she not know if someone was in her wardrobe?”
“Could it be she’s been hiding a man?”
“Ah…”
“Really hard to say…”
At that moment, Qian Laidi, hearing the commotion, hurried over. She caught the last sentence, and blood rushed to her head. Instead of trying to explain, she immediately reached out to slap Ming Leyao.
Ming Leyao pretended to be scared, stumbling and tripping with her left foot over her right, crashing into a nearby auntie. Qian Laidi’s slap missed Ming Leyao and instead landed squarely on the auntie’s face.
This auntie was notorious in the production team as a shrew, a troublemaker who always took advantage. Having been slapped by Qian Laidi, she would not let it go easily. She cursed loudly and charged at Qian Laidi, and the two began to brawl.
Ming Shi, along with his second younger brother Ming Li, came over to break up the fight. Although they were men, their strength wasn’t enough to pull apart these furious women; after quite a struggle, they still couldn’t separate the enraged pair.
“Ah… help!”
At that moment, voices came from inside Ming Yuehe’s room. Everyone’s attention turned there as they rushed to the wide-open door. The auntie who charged in first shouted scandalous things but with eyes wide open, as if wanting to cling to Ming Yuehe and get a good look.
“Oh my gosh, this fight is quite intense.”
“Ming Yuehe usually pretends to be a quiet, well-behaved girl, didn’t expect she’s this wild.”
“With so many people watching and not stopping, how hungry must Ming Yuehe have been? Look, look! Her arm is still around the man’s neck. Oh wow, they clearly know each other, and that familiarity—definitely not the first time.”
Coincidentally, when Ming Leyao gave the drug, she had used quite a bit for fast effect. Some must have rubbed onto Ming Yuehe when the man knocked her down. Now all Ming Yuehe’s movements were instinctive, which to outsiders looked like she was willingly involved.
“You… you…”
“Stop, stop it now!”
Ming Shi couldn’t care about anything else. He rushed in to pull the man off his daughter, but who knew… haha, this is what happens when you slack off and don’t work. The man shoved him away hard, and Ming Shi fell to the ground.
At that moment, everyone got a clear look at the man’s face.
“Hey? Isn’t that Ming Hu’s little uncle’s idiot son?”
“So Ming Yuehe likes that type?”
“Such guts.”
“…”
Ming Hu was in the main house. Hearing the commotion, he helped the old lady and came running over. Seeing the scene, he wanted his little uncle to stop his son, but Jia Wei gave a faint look and said, “Anyway, marrying into your Ming family, marrying anyone is the same…”
At least Ming Yuehe had parents, and Ming Shi was soon going to be the team leader. Finding a match like this for his son was better than marrying an orphan, right?
The old lady saw Jia Wei’s expression and immediately knew what he was planning. Furious, she shook and slapped Ming Hu hard without hesitation.
“It’s all your fault! It’s all your fault!” she shouted, then fainted…
By now, the Ming family’s courtyard was a complete mess, chickens and dogs scattering everywhere.
Finally, when Ming Hu’s fourth uncle came back after delivering things and saw the scene, he was the first to shut Ming Yuehe’s door. He kindly persuaded all the relatives to leave and had someone take the old lady back to her room.
By the time the team leader arrived, only the Ming family members and a tearful Ming Leyao remained inside.
“Is this ever going to end? Huh? Is it going to end? Your Ming family really has a lot of drama. Isn’t this embarrassing? The whole production team knows about it now,” Pang Jianyuan angrily scolded everyone, inwardly relieved that he was smart.
After Ming Leyao left, he had told his eldest son to keep an eye on the Ming family and alert him if anything unusual happened. It proved his concerns were valid—Ming family was no fun at all.
The Ming family was left speechless after being scolded by the team leader. They still didn’t understand how things got so out of hand.
Ming Shi fixed his poisonous eyes on Ming Leyao, ignoring Pang Jianyuan’s words, and coldly said, “Ming Leyao, you… you… you ruined Yuehe’s reputation.”
“…”
Wiping tears from the corner of her eyes with the back of her hand, Ming Leyao suddenly stood up and strode over to Ming Shi, loudly shouting, “Uncle, that excuse is just pathetic! What do you mean I ruined Ming Yuehe’s reputation? Was I the one who hid someone in her wardrobe? Was I the one who forced her to do immoral things with the person in her wardrobe? If it weren’t for Ming Hongdou calling me to Yuehe’s room, do you think I wanted to see her?”
“You…”
“At this point, instead of rushing to blame me, shouldn’t you be figuring out how to fix Ming Yuehe’s situation? What exactly is your plan, uncle?”
Ming Shi was at a loss for words, because at this moment, what could he say? Admit that the man was originally meant for Ming Leyao? That would ruin his entire reputation and push him further from the team leader position…
