Gu Xiaoxi had been reborn again!
For the third time, she saw the strikingly handsome man who had barged into her bathroom, his face flushed but his entire body radiating a fierce aura. She was completely stunned.
The man seemed equally surprised by the intimate scene before him and immediately turned his head away.
“I didn’t mean to! I’ll take responsibility!”
Gu Xiaoxi was dumbfounded once more.
These words were exactly the same as what he had said the previous two times.
However, the first time, the man had left before she could react.
After that, her cousin had maliciously signed her up, forcing her to go to the countryside in the fall of 1975.
A year later, her delicate constitution succumbed to illness, and she died in the countryside.
The second time, the man had left just as quickly, and she still ended up in the countryside.
But this time, to get back at her cousin, she had also signed her up to go to the countryside, ensuring they would torment each other.
Yet, even after enduring those harsh years and building her own career, she still died before reaching the age of thirty.
Now, reborn again, her first thought was: marry to save her life, stay in the city, and never go to the countryside.
So, the moment she saw the man’s hand about to push the door open, she immediately called out to him.
“Didn’t you say you’d take responsibility? Why are you leaving so fast?”
The man’s hand paused, but he didn’t dare to turn around. His voice was hoarse as he said, “I’ll go file a report now. We can get the marriage certificate tomorrow?”
Gu Xiaoxi was momentarily stunned, then quickly grabbed the clothes nearby and began putting them on.
But in her haste, her foot slipped, and she started to fall backward.
“Ah…”
Just as she thought she was about to hit the ground hard, a figure flashed by, and a large hand circled her waist, holding her steady.
Their eyes met, and both their breathing and heartbeats became erratic.
Gu Xiaoxi felt a mix of panic and surprise.
The man’s face was too handsome—his sharp, cold features were perfectly chiseled, his deep eyes seemed to reflect her image, and the hand gripping her slender waist was strong and burning hot. He exuded an indescribable allure.
But gradually, she began to sense something was wrong.
The man’s breathing was too heavy, his gaze increasingly unfocused, and his handsome face was flushed as if on fire. His hands alternated between loosening and tightening around her, unable to control himself.
Even his body was trembling!
“What’s wrong with you?” Gu Xiaoxi asked softly.
The man looked down at the soft, fragrant girl in his arms, who exuded a youthful yet enticing aura. He wanted to let go but found it hard to control himself.
Suppressing the violent desire raging within him, he pushed her away with sheer willpower, his voice tinged with frustration.
“Stay away from me. I’ve been drugged!”
Gu Xiaoxi’s eyes widened in shock.
Drugged?
Her gaze swept over him, and just as she was about to speak, she heard the voices of her cousin Gu Xinli and her aunt Liu Chunhua outside.
“Mom, you have no idea how handsome Lu Jiansen, the man I met today, is. He’s only twenty-five and already a battalion-level officer…”
“You silly girl, I created the perfect opportunity for you, and you still let him slip away…”
“How was I supposed to know? I just went to pour him some water, and he was gone…”
“Enough talking. Your uncle and aunt are at the hospital today, and only that brat Gu Xiaoxi is home. Let’s borrow her bicycle to search for him…”
Hearing this, Gu Xiaoxi quickly pushed the man into a corner, straightened her clothes, and opened the door halfway.
When Gu Xinli saw Gu Xiaoxi emerging from the bathroom with wet hair, she was momentarily stunned, then glared at her fiercely.
Gu Xiaoxi’s figure was too perfect—petite frame, curvaceous, with a delicate face. It seemed all the good food in her uncle’s house had gone to her, leaving her skin fair and smooth to the point of envy.
Gu Xiaoxi frowned. “What are you two standing here like ghosts for?”
Just as Liu Chunhua was about to speak, Gu Xinli rolled her eyes. “Gu Xiaoxi, lend me your new bicycle.”
Gu Xiaoxi replied expressionlessly, “Five mao per use. It must be returned by tomorrow morning.”
In the past, she would have refused outright.
Liu Chunhua’s face darkened, and she scolded, “You money-grubbing brat! Charging your own family to use a bicycle?”
“Then lend me Gu Xinli’s watch for a few days,” Gu Xiaoxi shot back, closing the door and staring coldly at the mother and daughter.
“No way!” Gu Xinli refused without hesitation.
“Then forget it. My bicycle isn’t for borrowing. You can leave now!”
Liu Chunhua wanted to argue, but Gu Xinli, anxious, tugged at her mother’s sleeve.
“Mom, just give her the five mao.”
Finding Lu Jiansen was more important. After all, he had consumed the drugged chicken soup, and the effects were strong. If she didn’t find him soon, someone else might take advantage.
Liu Chunhua came to her senses and reluctantly handed over five mao, signaling her daughter to take the bicycle.
The two left quickly, disappearing within minutes.
Once they were gone, Gu Xiaoxi reopened the bathroom door.
In the next moment, she was pulled into a scorching embrace. “I’ll take responsibility!”
The man’s voice was as tense as his body, teetering on the edge of collapse.
He felt like he was about to explode!
Gu Xiaoxi looked up and saw the fire burning in his eyes. Realizing how unstable he was, she bit her lip and wrapped her arms around his waist.
“Should I take you to the hospital first?”
The man, staring at her slightly parted lips, couldn’t resist and kissed her.
After a clumsy kiss, he pressed his lips to her ear and whispered, “My name is Lu Jiansen. Don’t be afraid. I’m not a bad person. I’ll treat you well from now on.”
Though nervous and scared, Gu Xiaoxi bravely nodded.
“I believe you!”
Since she had chosen a different path this time, rather than marrying through an arranged match, she might as well choose him!
At the very least, he was good-looking.
Her words of trust shattered the last of Lu Jiansen’s defenses and resolve.
He kissed her fiercely, urgently, then, with the last shred of his rationality, carried her back to the room.
That night, Gu Xiaoxi regretted her decision later on, whimpering and crying until she finally passed out.
…
The sky was just beginning to brighten.
Lu Jiansen quietly got up, gently tucking the blanket around the girl sleeping soundly on the bed. He gazed at her for a long time before finally moving again.
Before leaving, he removed a uniquely shaped purple jade pendant from his neck and placed it around her neck, which bore several marks from their intimacy.
Five minutes later, he closed the door and left.
His leave was almost over, and he needed to resolve everything quickly to marry the girl!
Finding the nearest phone booth, he immediately dialed the military district…
