As the night deepened, the passengers in the sleeper car gradually fell asleep.
Gu Xiaoxi had slept during the day, so she couldn’t fall asleep now. However, she was afraid that if she stayed awake, Lu Jiansen would also stay up to keep her company, so she closed her eyes and pretended to sleep.
After lying down for a while, her hand unconsciously touched the purple jade pendant around her neck.
Should she tell Lu Jiansen about the trade-in space inside this jade?
After all, he was the one who gave it to her!
Just as she was thinking this, an image suddenly appeared in her mind.
The old goods storage and the new product display hall transformed into a balance scale in a flash of white light. On the base of the scale, several lines of golden text were engraved:
[Trade-in System Space Owner: Gu Xiaoxi]
[Transaction Level: Beginner Level 1]
[Points: 75]
[Merit Value: 0]
[Skill Store: Locked]
After a moment of daze, Gu Xiaoxi finally understood.
This meant that the trade-in space belonged to her, and it could also be upgraded.
She already had 75 points—was that what she earned from the trade-in yesterday?
Thinking this, she casually took off the hair tie from her head and threw it into the old goods storage.
When she saw the used hair tie turn into a new one in the new product display hall and the points increase to 76, she suddenly felt energized.
She wondered if accumulating more points would allow her to level up.
Should she find something else to exchange?
She sat up and began looking around the dimly lit carriage.
Hearing her movements, Lu Jiansen immediately opened his eyes, “Can’t sleep? Or do you need to use the restroom?”
Gu Xiaoxi coughed lightly, “You sleep. I just slept too much during the day.”
“Call me if you need anything!” Lu Jiansen reminded her.
“Mm. Go back to sleep!” Gu Xiaoxi lay back down.
Half an hour later, the train stopped at a station for a while.
Shortly after the train started moving again, it began to rain outside. Listening to the sound of the rain and the rhythmic clatter of the train, Gu Xiaoxi drifted off to sleep.
At some point, Gu Xiaoxi was awakened by the sound of a child crying.
As soon as she sat up, she heard Xiao Ye’s angry scolding.
“It’s not like your parents died, why are you crying? You’ve been making so much noise since you got here, disturbing everyone’s sleep. Have you no sense of public decency…”
“I’m sorry! I’m sorry! Our child is sick. We specifically booked this sleeper car because we heard there was a doctor here…” a woman kept apologizing.
“If your child is sick, why are you dragging him around? What kind of parents are you!” Xiao Ye became even angrier.
At this moment, Grandpa Qi had already gotten out of bed and said gently, “Let me take a look at the child.”
Lu Jiansen gave up his bed for the child and sat down next to Gu Xiaoxi.
Seeing that the little girl was about to get up, he took out a coat from his bag and draped it over her, “It’s almost five o’clock. Do you want to go to the dining car to eat something?”
“No. I need to use the restroom.” Gu Xiaoxi shifted her body, preparing to get out of bed.
Lu Jiansen immediately bent down, picked up her shoes, and helped her put them on.
Gu Xiaoxi’s face suddenly turned red. Was he being too considerate?
In the end, each of them put on one shoe.
Seeing that the sick little boy was still crying, Gu Xiaoxi casually handed him a piece of candy.
“Don’t cry! Once the doctor grandpa checks you, you can have some candy.”
The little boy, no more than four or five years old, stopped crying when he heard Gu Xiaoxi’s gentle voice and held the candy in his hand, his attention quickly diverted.
The woman looked at Gu Xiaoxi gratefully, “Thank you!”
“You’re welcome. You should sit down for a while too.”
Gu Xiaoxi quickly folded her blanket and then headed to the restroom.
Xiao Ye, lying on the upper berth, watched Gu Xiaoxi’s retreating figure and snorted inwardly. With just one piece of candy, Gu Xiaoxi had made herself look like a saint while making Xiao Ye seem like the villain. How disgusting! What a scheming woman!
When Gu Xiaoxi went to the restroom, there were two people ahead of her in line. After thinking for a moment, she decided to go to the neighboring area to wash up first.
Next to the sink was a large trash can. The trash was overflowing, and some of it had spilled onto the floor. The smell in the air was so foul it was suffocating.
Holding her breath, she washed her hands and had a strong urge to get rid of the trash can.
As soon as the thought crossed her mind, a white mist swept up the trash can from the ground, and it disappeared.
Immediately after, she found the trash can in the old goods storage. After another exchange, a brand-new trash can and a roll of soft, white toilet paper appeared in the new product display hall.
Seeing this, she blinked in surprise and then quickly moved the trash can back to its original spot.
After cautiously looking around and confirming that no one had noticed, she finally let out a sigh of relief.
After quickly washing up, she stared at the uncleared trash on the floor for a few seconds, then expressionlessly went to the restroom.
On her way back, she deliberately checked the points in her space.
What she saw shocked her.
The points hadn’t increased, but her merit value had gone up by 1.
Even more surprising was that the previously locked skill store had now been unlocked.
However, after reading the description, she wasn’t too excited about the skill.
[Beginner Skill Store: Available Skills]
Skill 1: Trash Cleaning (Cost: 1 Merit Point)
Skill 2: Trash Sorting (Cost: 1 Merit Point)
With mixed feelings, she walked back, only to hear Xiao Ye’s scolding again.
“Ah… how do you raise your child? If he’s seriously sick, take him to the hospital! I’m going crazy! There’s a trash can right there, but he vomited on my shoe. It’s so disgusting…”
“I’m sorry! I’m sorry! Miss, I’ll wash your shoe right away!” The woman kept apologizing, her tone both humble and fearful.
“Wash it? Even if you wash it, it’ll still stink! And it’ll be all wet. How am I supposed to wear it?” Xiao Ye was furious. She kicked off her shoe and sat on Gu Xiaoxi’s bunk.
Since her sock had also gotten a bit of vomit on it, she deliberately rubbed it against the edge of the bedsheet. Finally, she couldn’t stand the disgust any longer, took off her sock, threw it away, and tucked her feet under the blanket.
Gu Xiaoxi also felt disgusted!
She didn’t want to sleep on that blanket anymore!
Seeing that his little wife had returned, Lu Jiansen walked over and blocked her view.
“I’ll ask the train attendant to handle this. Don’t go over there for now.”
“Mm.” Gu Xiaoxi nodded and stood by the aisle for a while.
The rain outside seemed to be getting heavier, pattering noisily against the train windows.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the woman frantically cleaning up the mess while apologizing to Xiao Ye. Feeling a slight pang of sympathy, she impulsively decided to spend her only merit point to unlock the trash cleaning skill.
She thought, since it’s a skill, it should be able to clean the trash more thoroughly, right?
Just as she was thinking this, she suddenly felt a chill run through her body. Her hair moved as if blown by an invisible wind, and her mind felt like something had been squeezed into it, making her head feel slightly swollen.
As she reached up to touch her head, a few words inexplicably popped into her mind: Wind-Type Cleaning Technique.
With a mysterious sensation, her fingers moved unconsciously, and a gust of wind suddenly swept across the floor, miraculously gathering the nearby trash and dust into a pile.
Her heart skipped a beat, and in a panic, she changed the direction of the wind, scattering the pile of trash again.
Fortunately, it wasn’t fully light yet, and no one noticed what had happened.
At that moment, the train conductor arrived. After mediating between Xiao Ye and the woman, it was decided that the woman would wash Xiao Ye’s shoe and compensate her with thirty cents.
Xiao Ye was still unhappy, but in the end, she had no choice but to agree.
